So the airlines are having a fire sale on fares from the 'City of Too Many Nicknames' to New York.ÿ Would somebody who hasn't interacted with a soul on this board and majorly botched his only call into the show still have a good time?ÿ I'm guessing yes, but also looking for validation from strangers.

What's the after-party scene like.ÿ I figure I'd just catch an early plane and just stay up all night.ÿ Woo!

Jeremy

On the way home on the train now. Meeting Rainn Wilson in Scranton tomorrow cut the night short.
I had a great time and it was nice to see a lot of those I have not seen in some time. Bobo breaking out the mandolin was quite the highlight. Some really great people in this community here. Great food as well. I need to make these events more often.
Someone really wanted to swipe a chicken wing off of Dave's plate at one point. Who could it be?

i got home a litle while ago, it was quite a grand time.

believe it or not lleeder is normal.

I just got home, and for the smokers (and whoever likes to hang outside) it was a fantastic time. There had to be at least a hundred of us lined up on the sidewalk at all times, and I got to meet a ton of new people as well as catch up with old friends. Inside, the bar was as close to unbearable as it gets. It was crowded beyond belief, and that was before King Opie showed up and decided to take over the party. Of course he brought his "security team" and roped off an entire section and had "Master" Po start pushing people around.

It's a shame, really. From the title of this thread and how it was promoted, this was supposed to be a RONFEZ.NET Christmas party, not an XM202 party. Of course everyone is invited, but it wasn't very long before long-time Ron and Fez listeners and board members were being treated like second class citizens.

I don't blame Mikeyboy or JustJon. I know they work very hard to put these gatherings together and try to make it a good time for everyone. I don't blame all of the Wackbaggers, FBAers, and all the other various message board people that showed up. The more fans Ron and Fez have, the better. They're my buddies and I want them to be as successful as possible. If that involves a certain amount of cross promotion with the O&A show, that's fine. What happened tonight, however, is inexcusable. I don't claim to be a psychiatrist, but it's fairly easy to see that one Mr. Hughes suffers from delusions of grandeur and really likes to believe he's far more important than he really is.

Funny how Ron and Fez can hang with everyone, inside the bar and out, shake hands, take pictures, give hugs, etc. without a SWAT team surrounding them at all times to keep the "weirdos" at bay.

To everyone I saw tonight - thanks for all the laughs and good feelings. It's always nothing short of wonderful to see you all again. To those who were there that I never met, I'll catch ya next time. And to those who came and were turned off by the power trip they witnessed, please realize it's not usually this way and maybe next time we'll have an 'invite only' party and you'll be able to enjoy yourselves and see what a great group of people this messageboard attracts.

Gvac said it best. Its kind of disheartening to pay $60 to get into a place, fight your way to the coat check, drink half a beer each, toss it, get screamed at by the swat team to get out of the area while trying to go outside, then never go back in.

Jon, Mikey you guys did a great job.
Gvac, I hate to differ, but I don't see Opie being a problem at this party at all. EVERY party where the "talent" has come, there's been a VIP area. There's been one at every single event I've gone to. Of course, this was the first time I've been to an event in the 202 era. I saw Po acting like a dick, but to be honest, considering the getup that Po was wearing, it's hard not to look like a douchebag no matter what you do.

Opie was a guest at this party. It wasn't his deal, so it wasn't his responsibility to press the flesh. This was basically them relaxing after doing a four hour broadcast that was incredibly chaotic and somehow pulled it off. So no, I don't fault him. I saw Opie taking pictures and chatting, so he was being social.

But then again, I got in late.

I found it amusing that one of Po's apprentices fucking STOPPED RON for a second when he tried to go "behind the rope".

If this event gets so crowded why have it on a saturday night at a bar? Why not have it on a week night at a club/lounge? its bigger and would fit more people. I know people have work, but people will take off or if your going to have it on a Saturday do it at a much bigger place. Rent out a hall there are so many other ides to make in comfortable and fit everyone in and maybe even make money for the board and future events.

After hearing some of these stories it sounds like everyone likes to see eachother and catch up. I look forward to the day that I meet some more of you. We need to do another poker game soon and this time more people from the board should show up.

I might only be posting this because I'm in a pissy mood and the party feedback has made the guy pop into my mind for the first time in two years, but as a fan on O&A when it was available to me I always thought you could replace Opie on the show with Terry Sciavo and nobody would notice. Maybe he's the brains and Anthony's the performer. I don't know. But I can't imagine Bud Abbot had to have an entourage of goons to keep from getting any commonness rubbed on him.

Opie showed up and went to that area, and to the best of my knowledge, the only thing that changed was that Master Po started keeping an eye on that area.
I will back up Mikey on this point, as I said before - don't blame Opie. He was a guest at this party, not the host, and he was deserving of an area where he could hang out and relax and not be bothered. There have been plenty of O&A events where he was milling around talking to people, but this wasn't an O&A event.

The first things I heard when I got to the party from several people was talking shit about Opie, and I couldn't understand why. Yeah, he was there, but he was a guest at a party where a good portion of the people there were fanboys and he wouldn't get a second to himself if he didn't have a VIP area. These events ALWAYS have VIP areas, but I think the difference was, this was in plain sight of everyone, and since everyone likes to hate on Opie, he became a target.

When I walked in, I made eye contact with Opie, I nodded, and smiled at him. He acknowledged me - a fan, nothing more, with a smile and a wave, and we talked later on. In fact, I saw Opie taking pictures with fans later on in the night, hardly a display of aloof behavior.

I mean, at least Opie was being social. You want to talk about being holed up? Anthony showed up, immediately went to VIP, and didn't leave. But he was in the back corner, where nobody could see him.

I think Jon and Mikey miscalculated on the size of the room, and that was the only problem. I can't fault them entirely for that, because the situation obviously mushroomed out of their control before they realized what was happening. If we had a bigger room, and everyone could walk around and socialize instead of being smashed together, NOBODY would be complaining outside of the stinkbomb issue. I think the cramped quarters magnified the problems a thousandfold, and everyone's stresses bubbled to the surface.

wow! i just finished reading everyones posts about the party. a lot of mixed feelings. Im sure mikeyboy and jon did there best to accomodate. im sorry i missed out on the whole event.

the other boards wearing tshirts representing themselves is just so not tasteful. its a christmas party not a comedy show. when you go to a lounge, bar, club you should dress to impress. isnt that the unwritten law of "going out"? these are obviously people who NEVER get out, lets just get that out of the way.

The problem is that its a public event so we cant blame our staff for letting things get out of hand. they could only do so much. Calico Jacks always gets out of hand. its a poplular place and it gets packed to the max regardless of a "ronfez.net" event. with the event being held there, its more icing on the cake.

the way things are going lately, its only going to get bigger. Like mikey said, this is a lesson learned and im sure at the next event, they will use this party as "experience".

it is too much to say "dress accordingly"? i am not ragging on anyone that dresses a certain style but the FBA shirts look tacky and it is bad manners. if you must wear one of those things make sure it is clean, maybe even change it up with a rotation of 5 or 6 this way you will always have a clean on to put on and not the same one.

The sheer number of people outside in the "smoking section" was a testament to the number of people who were there.

Some people seem ready to blame Opie, but I really don't think he was the cause of any of the problems. To the best of my knowledge, this is the sequence of events. Jon can correct me if I have anything wrong.

A couple of days before the party, East Side Dave asked Jon and me if they could reserve a table near the window for members of the Ron & Fez and Opie & Anthony shows to sit, eat, and leave bags, etc. We accomodated. That table and area in the corner was in use long before Opie showed up for just those purposes. Opie showed up and went to that area, and to the best of my knowledge, the only thing that changed was that Master Po started keeping an eye on that area. His job is security for O&A, and O&A have a pretty rabid fanbase, so he was just doing his job. Master Po, probably by his own admission, is pretty no-nonsense and and intense guy when he does his job which can rub some people the wrong way, but I don't know of any issues at that point.

At around 11:00, we decided to hold the chugging contest. There wasn't a spare inch to use at that point, so we decided to expand the area reserved for the two shows. It had never been our intention to inconvenience the people at tables in those areas. We had thought that Calico Jack's would start pulling up those tables as people finished eating and it got more crowded. So anyway, it came time to expand the area, so it was roped off at that point. People at tables were moved and some people were moved out of or denied entrance to the roped off area. Some tempers flared and there were some hurt feelings, and for that, as one of the people heading up this event, I apologize. We'll need a better way to handle that next time.

As far as I can tell, Opie didn't do anything other than show up to an event he was invited to and hang out the table reserved for him. There was no ordering to have people thrown out. There were no demands for a VIP area. My only issue was with people who weren't a part of either show who felt entitled to be in what sadly became a VIP area. It just made it harder to run the contest, and really created the perception that there was an elite class of people at the event behind the velvet rope. Ronfez.net events have never been like that, and it makes me sad that it appeared this way to others. After the contest, the roped off area became so crowded that I had to get outside and hang with the smokers. Maybe we should taken down the ropes at that point and decontstructed the "VIP Area" at that point, but the damage was done and it was kind of a clusterfuck at that point.

So anyway, it was our event, and in some respects I couldn't be happier. In other respects, we could have handled things better, and I think we've learned some lessons. To everyone, we're glad you came. To those who had a good time, I'm glad. To those who didn't, we've learned a lot about planning an event of this size and can promise to rectify the problems this go round.

Sorry to get the downer post out of the way first. I actually had a great time, so my next post on the party will be a positive one.

you're no fba

thank god for that. if this place turns into that, it will be a sad sad day.

I've got nothing to do with this at all, but FBA just recently came into existence and wackbag has gotten a lot more into the ron and fez show then they were last year. Dave's a mod over at FBA. It's a pain on the people who run the party, but you have to face that Ron and Fez are that much more popular. By the way did they give out the present to Ron and Fez from ronfez.net????

I had a great time at the party. This was my first event since night of frights and everyone was great. I knew nobody when I got there except as disembodied characters from the board. It was great to meet Bobo, KOP, Sheepy, Stugots, Dave and so many more. I just walked up to people and introduced myself and then the thing took on a life of its own. I stayed till about midnight spending the last 45 mins or so with the smokers... To be honest I had no idea what to expect. I've had some pretty contentious arguments on the board and was worried they might spill out, but there was none of it. Aside from the insult of Sheepy immediately using purrel after shaking my hand all went well.

Props to mikeyboy and jon. Given the circumstances it could not have been run better. as an aside mikey stood with his wife(?) behind me waiting on line to get in. No special treatment or line cutting. I thought the thing very egalitarian. Missed the O&A stuff, but you have to know their presence is always going to complicate things.

Ron and Fez are always amazing. Fezzie's glasses were amazingly stylish...did they come from Short Hills...?

PS...ate dinner at McFaddens before the party and the service stunk...got everything wrong...from salad to main course...the chick I was with was so pissed she wanted to leave a 5% tip to make a point.

When I pay $30 for a bracelet, cannot get to the bar, and then I finally get to the bar and the whore (sorry) of a bartender is really nasty and telling me that she cant give me bottles, she cant give me more than one drink at a time, and it takes me 30 minutes to get up there and order, how should I feel????? Anywho, I should have just taken my money and flushed it down the toilet, I wound up going to the back of the bar and paying $6 a pop for beer to the girl in the back. The shot girl was cute, however I cannot imagine the amount of cooties and germs on her belly button after all was said and done......ewwwwww.

I don't do long posts ever but here we go...

Alkey and I have shown up at 80% of events over the last five years and were thrilled to see 80% of the people we've met over the years and grown to love. We left because it was too crowded and we couldn't get a drink. The vibe wasn't what we show up at events for, and there were so many people we just wanted to hang out with. It wasn't anyone's fault, the show's grown in popularity and maybe next year's party should be entirely guest list and at a location fully capable of handling everyone that shows up.

Jon and Mikeboy put together an awesome event. Ron and Fez were amazing as usual to everyone. Opie, (from what I could tell from my prison visits to the VIP area from the window) was laid back and having a good time.

We should just all celebrate the fact that Ron & Fez are as popular as they are.
