Pills that make you sleep to be more specific. This goes from pills such as benadryl (a favorite of mine) to Tylenol PM. I don't know if this a problem, but I've been taking some sort of medication to sleep for as long as I can remember. Most nights I tend to experience the "high" from the pills and I sit to write.

I use the medicine in the proper ways and don't take over the recommended doseage. I would say I could stop whenever I want, but it's not true.

I was like that for a long time. I took ambien for close to 2 years and recently stopped. Its been very hard to fall asleep without them. Try to stop taking that shit, you will be better off. Taking to much medicine fucks with your liver, kidneys etc. that why I stopped, I'm trying not to take any medicine unless its 100% needed

as screwed up as my sleep schedule is due to working evenings and being on-call overnight for work i choose not to use anything to help me sleep

i'm just afraid i'll get too used to it

That's why I always resisted the urge to take pills to help me sleep. I've had periods where I've had an awful time trying to get to sleep but I was always afraid that if I started relying on pills to get to sleep they'd eventually stop working and I'd be even more fucked.

All I can suggest is that when you can't get to sleep just get back up and do something and push yourself until you are so exhausted that can't stay awake anymore. Hopefully if you do that enough you can get back on a regular sleep schedule.

i went through 2 weeks of a hellacious withdrawl when i was taken off of several corticoroids and steroids that i had been taking for 3 years (adrenal issues). can't tell you much about sleep med's, but anything you take regularly and build up in your system will take 2-3 weeks to flush out and get your body started on producing the proper hormones and crap so you can sleep (or i my case, produce cortisol) on you own without assistance.

have you tried Chamomile tea before bed? Seriously, that stuff is awesome with a little milk in it. Works for me. And i even give my hyper crotch drop kicking dog ZEN puppy treats, which are loaded with chamomile...and they really sedate him. Worth a try.

ive heard horror stories of what tylenol pm can do to the body over a long run of repeated use, be careful with it
What is making you sleep from Tylenol PM is diphenhydramine , the same ingredient in benadryl. The problem with using Tylenol PM on a regular basis is the risk of liver damage from acetaminophen, the main ingredient in Tylenol. You're actually better off just taking the benadryl, since it doesn't have acetaminophen in it.

You say you use the medicine in a proper way, but don't most over the counter drugs specifically say not to use the medicine for a prolonged period of time?

I have been on heavy drugs for 3 years. I can't wait to get off of them. It 'aint worth my liver damage. I have to take daily:

*240mg. Oxycontin

*20mg. Valium

*2100mg. Neurontin(Gabapentin)

*180 mg. Morphine Sulfate or Roxicodone

*25 mg. Hydroxyzine

*Testosterone

*Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG)

I hate anything that medicinal marijuana cannot fix and I'm even sick of having to smoke every day. Drugs fuckin suck! I used to take XTC & meth when I would DJ at clubs and that shit is just poison. The drug companies will have 30 drugs to keep your dick hard but can't find a cure for cancer or even the common cold?

Fuck them!

Kevin Trudeau is right but I don't trust him either.

Eat right and find a natural way to sleep.

I looked up to see if it had any affect with MS in particular, but couldn't come up with anything. I'd rather play it safe.

And the benadryl works for me. I believe the prolonged useage of it just leads to dryness of the mouth, which is easily taken care of by a glass of water.

And it could be stress related. I never needed anything to sleep before I was diagnosed with ms. Since then sleep has beenr eal ahrd to get without the use of something. I probably should have been going to some sort of therapy since I was diagnosed, the doctor recommended it, but I've never inquired about going and I eventually convince myself it's all fine.

You should probably check with your doctor..I went for years on an awful sleep schedule because I've worked nights since i was 18..I asked about Ambien, maybe 5 or 10 a month, and my doctor(I like to call him "the candyman")said that there are usually 30 days in a month, so thats how many he'd give me...It's been a lifesaver...It's technically a hypnotic, and you really need about 7 hours after you take it...You can't function on it like typical painkillers like Vicodin...You are out cold...Like everything, if you don't abuse it, you'll be OK...I've gone a while without taking Ambien because I just don't have time to wait the effect out...I think it pretty much comes down to piece of mind...Like when you walk into a doctors office, you start to feel better just knowing the problem is going to be addressed...Like I said, check with your doctor, and good luck buddy...You don't want to add dependency to your medical condition.

If you're going to OTC sollutions to help your sleep, you may want to talk to a shrink about what's causing your sleeplessness. Many of today's sleeping pills cause little addictive problems, although they should not be used as a crutch.

I'd suggest researching sleeping pills before going to your shrink. They should only be used as a short-term remedy.

On a side note, I abused prescribed cough syrup with codeine to knock me the hell out when my dad was dying while I was in college just so I could get some sleep. Not the brightest idea I ever had by far.

If your stressed out by your diagnosis of MS, PLEASE speak to your doctor to help you with some counseling. Try the Tea. Chamomile DOES work!

Very few diseases suck more than MS. Here's a link to treatment facilities in New Jersey.

http://www.nationalmssociety.org/treatment_clinic.asp?state=NJ

Good luck. This is not something you should try to solve on your own. If money is an issue a lot of this stuff is free.

I've been seeing Stewart Cook at UMDNJ in Newark New Jersey. He's one of the leaders in studying MS.

The thing with MS is that you don't know when it;'s going to come and bite you int he ass. It's such an unknown, and the medicine they give doesnt prevent anything. It's going to sleep at night and not knowing if you'll wake up paralyzed in the morning. I've been doing pretty well to be honest. The disease hasn't really done much to me since I've started meds.

I also know anyone can go to sleep and then not wake up at all. I think like that and it used to make me feel better, but now it makes me feel worse.
