View Full Version : I hate cardio.....

So for my new years resolution, I wanted to start working out again. Ideally I just want to lose a few punds and tone up. My stomach has always been nice and very easy to tone up, as well as my arms. It's my lower half I have a problem with. I cannot stand cardio, I have never been a runner, I still smoke, and was wondering if there was another way to tone up my legs without them getting "bulky".

I also just started doing the Yoga thing again, It was time and I find it helps me with my relaxation, my flexibility, and my overall mood. (I'm high strung and very jittery.)

Any suggestions?

Elliptical machines. You can give your legs a great aerobic/cardio workout without any of the impact.

I did 90 seconds on an eliptical machine before my back gave out. I do physical therapy and it's alot of stretching & weight training. I ride my bike for cardio and walking feels good too. The 6 inch scar on my stomache feels like someone stuck a knife in it and twisted today. Thank Gawd for Oxycontin!

I hate cardio too but I need some form of it.

Personally I like to run, mostly because people at the gym annoy me. If you're going to run or use a treadmill, buy a decent pair of shoes. It make all the difference.

And your legs won't get bulky unless you start doing SERIOUS training.

Good luck.

I hate running as well, and I have flat fred flintstone feet, so it hurts.

You can try the elliptical machine like someone else suggested. It's definitely better than a treadmill, and because it's low impact, it seems like it's easier to do, especially to music.

you can try rollerblading. That's pretty fun, and you don't even feel like you are working out, although winter isn't the best time to start I guess.

you mentioned yoga. yoga is pretty much good for everything, you can always go back to that.

Also, the best exercise in the world is martial arts. you can join a class or something. Plus, it's always good to know.

Ellipticals are great, you can do them and it isnt too miserable.

Gaia, I recently started boxing and its an amazing cardio workout. Girls might not like to box so much, but a great alternative would be kickboxing.

I have an elliptical machine, I love it! I lost 60 pounds using it before my wedding.

If you dont want to do the treadmill and elliptical thing, you could also try pilates. I've never done it myself, but a girl I know lost weight doing Pilates and she also got toned up doing it.

Elliptical machines. Burns twice the Calories that a tred does at the same time. And it is not terrible.

I forgot to mention, I HAD an elliptical that I kept over my boyfriends house, but he is "remodeling" his living space, and he got rid of it, we still have the trreadmill, I also already started the yoga thing again. I guess its the treadmill for now, a gym membership really is not for me. Id love to rollerblade, but the last time I did that I wound up with a 2 inch scar on my knee.....Im just really uncoordianted.

I guess I will have to make out with the treadmill.....yuck.

your only two days into your resolution, pick something and go full blast for at least a couple of months.

But if you stick with it, everything is exponential. You may not see the results up front, but you will feel them. The more muscle your body has, the more cals it burns as well. So as you work out, you are free to eat even more. It's no excuse, but you will crave like a mofo a week or two in.

Funny enough Gia, I'm off to the same start with my new year's res and haven't liked running since my track days in college have been over. Once the competition is gone, nothing really drives me with it. The same goes for the gym. I would love to stay fit and enjoy the gym, but it's just plain boring and I'm not one to deal with the norm in them. I did however find a pretty cool gym of late and have mixed in some racquetball and basketball to keep the monotony down to a minimum.

Bottom line is that running and swimming are two of the best overall exercises we can do and there's a reason their not too much fun. Yet after two weeks it'll feel like nothing and we'll be back to our sculpted selves! Well, at least you will. Hockey and beer always ruin my plans in the end! But I'd have it no other way. Unless it came with a harem!

From what I've read, one can only truly lose 2 pounds of fat a week with the rest being water weight. I'm convinced if I simply stop drinking 12 cokes a day I'll be back to my high school weight in a month. We'll see bc I'm on day #3 without it!

And Funk had some great ideas with the simple but effective jump rope. It's great and has worked for me and countless boxers in the past.

Also, that kickboxing shit is one hell of a full workout as well. HHH is right on with it being a serious form of cardio, and the chicks in their are hot as hell too. At least they are at the Hoboken one. My neighbor took me to a class telling me how tough it can be and he wasn't kidding. This from an old navy seal to boot!

What's the rundown on rowing? I'm not sure how it stacks up overall, but it sure works for me when I need a break from the norm as well.

I'm seriously thinking about the boxing thing....I need a release from always being angry.

One of those hanging punching bags that you can dribble with your fists is fantastic when you're pissed off. Getting your aggression out physically without actually hurting anything or anyone is useful. Just make sure you screw it on tight enough to the wall to withstand a long series of pummeling. It makes your knuckles harder, and gives you a good upper body workout. Walking is a good way to lose weight. Perhaps the best/fastest way to lose weight in fact (or so a PT told me once). You just have to do alot of it. Go on a few hikes. Or like DjEvel mentioned, go biking. Whatever floats your boat.

I starting working out again last March, and quickly hurt my foot. I started using elliptical machines because I could keep working out without making my injury worse. My foot has completely healed, but I still stick with the elliptical machines.

high intensity sex is a good cardio workout.... burns calories like a mutherfucker.

Unfortunately for me I had to train myself to 'finish' in personal best times when my kids were born.
