I'm watching the news and a police officer was speaking to the media about something, I noticed what a large, wait very very large man he was and how he looked like he couldnt even breathe in his uniform. It made me think, wow there sure is a lot of fat out of shape police officer.

Dont you think they should have a healthy weight limit or something like that for police. I know NJ state police has something like this.

At the begining they probably have to be in shape but I bet once they have some time in the union can't force them not to be fatties.

We have a lot of those in my town. They usually partner them with guys that can actually do a sit up. As long as they keep their trigger finger trim I think they're fine.

I would like to see one on Cops though. A nice obese man running sequence. Maybe in slow motion with the Chariots of Fire music in the background. Then he could stop, eat a hot dog, and pick up the chase.

Earlier this week I was sitting in the dr office waiting to be called in and there was a cop from either Union County (NJ) or Westfield or a town around there sitting there as well. He had to be pushing 350ish or more. Once he went in, my mom who was waiting with me looked at me and said that she thought cops had to meet certain 'requirements'. That's what I thought too.
Then I thought that maybe when he became a cop he was much smaller and eventually got that big over time. Shouldn't there be some sort of requirement on health to avoid this? I mean really, these people need to maintain a certain ability, don't they?

Not all cops walk the beat, and I think what happens is that stress from the job gets to them and they eat to compensate. If a cop does have to get physical with someone, if they have a weight advantage they use it. My cousin was a beat cop and he got injured and then they gave him a desk job, and eventually now he works in the garage. He put on like 100 lbs!

Working a desk job or working in a garage is what many many Americans do being a cop that does it , doesnt make it more stressful.

just admit it, your cousin like to snack! Nothing wrong with that, but dont blame the job!

I have a friend who is an officer in NJ, and he once told us that you must be in shape to be recruited, pass thru training, etc., but once you are an officer there is no more restrictions or anything like that.

They're all panting and shit, the guy will jump a fence, the cops jumps up and falls... then the guy hides under a house or some crap and they release the cops dogs and suspect surrenders immediately... glorious. There was a whole "very special" COPS dedicated to people who run from teh cops, my favorite episode ever

If they were able to lose the weight they'd look like T.O. It's just that their line coach is on them constantly to eat and eat. They have to come in a certain weight or they are gone.

Asthetically they look like a bag of shit but physically they are top notch.

Cardio might be lacking in some but that leads back to losing weight.....

I grew up in a small town and the majority of the cops were all just physical messes. When they would come in the woods looking for us to break up a drinking party, it was too easy just to run away and hide in the woods for a couple hours because you knew they could catch a 16 year old running like a drunken madman.

We used to run to the barrel, grab beers, then take off in the woods and all the cops would just arrest the dopes who were too drunk and couldn't run becuase they couldn't catch anyone else.
