I had to yell, no one out there knows anything about this gem.

Garth Marenghi's Darkplace

The joy of the show was given to me by a man who found it on the Sci-Fi channel randomly one day, he watched it and could not convey in words just how amazing the show was. I sat on the show for months but when I finally got around to watching it I was amazed, after I figured out it was a huge joke.

The show:

"The premise of the series is that in the mid-1980s, Garth Marenghi and his publisher Dean Learner made their own TV series on a shoestring budget. Set in Darkplace Hospital in Romford, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace tells of the adventures of Dr. Rick Dagless, MD, as he fights the forces of darkness while simultaneously coping with the pressures of running a modern hospital. In spite of the programme's obvious flaws — wooden acting, cringeworthy scripts and amazingly poor special effects, to name but three — both Marenghi and Learner still regard the series as a masterpiece. But nobody else does, which is why it's taken nearly 20 years to reach the screen."

It's a total farce on horror and 80s television.

So now you may be asking, hey, I want to check this show out, what should I do?

Well, found in some other TV thread on this board I found a link to the episodes:

TV Links section on Darkplace.

It's a very silly series and that is what makes it so grand. More people show know about this thing but so far everyone that I has asked has heard nothing about it. Besides for the boy who told me about it I have heard nothing about it anywhere.

Share the happiness of this great show. Should be turned into an internet phenomenon.

i loved this show cause it breaks every rule in tv production.

there was a big buzz about this when it came out but the 'powers that be' hated it..really really hated it! and it was never picked up for a 2nd series.

imo Dean Learner (Richard Ayedoyte) was the real star..he and matthew holness tried 'man to man with Dean Learner' recently, but it missed the mark for me.

they both do exellent appearances in armando iannuccis (the alan partridge creator) new project TIME TRUMPET..possibly the best UK comedy of last year.

there is talk of another series on another channel..there is loads of die hard fans out there making petitions.

Just watched ep 1... Hilarious! Thanks for the tip. Odd how that shovel got into a hospital room.
