Monday I completely flew off the handle.

First you'll need a little backround. The post office sets up the majority of the letters for your route in order by machines, places them in trays and ships them off to each station in the mornings. This is called DPS. The mail handler takes them off the trucks and places the trays of mail accordingly on shelves with your route number. The DPS is supposed to be a help to the carrier to get the route up quicker and out the door to deliver the pounds of shit to unwanting old people. Now that thats cleared up on with the story.

Well Mondays are heavy and we get alot of DPS. The mail handler in my station couldnt care less about the carriers. He stacks the trays of DPS on the shelves as high as he can. He'll call your number if the trays get too high. Well Monday my trays were getting too high. He called my number, well I'm taking a healthy morning shit at this moment. The guy can see that my mail is getting too high and is on the verge of tipping over. The easy thing to do is to take my trays and bring them over to my desk OR just make 2 stacks! No the guys an asshole and keeps on stacking the trays on top of each other until...thats right, they tip over and the once sorted mail is now all over the floor. I come out of the bathroom and I see the mess that is my DSP. I fucking flipped out. I started yelling, screaming, cursing the mail handler out, I started throwing mail, trays and buckets around like an animal. I fucking lost it. I had no control over my anger. People were holding me back trying to calm me down. I seriously didnt come out of my rage until about 30 minutes later. I was still pissed off but I was able to control myself.

Now I know how easy it can be to become postal. I cant wait for a vacation.

Hey Bobby, I work in the Postal System too, in fact, Im a mailhandler, yup, the same craft as the dude who set you off. I know exactly what your talking about with postal people. I'd say 80% of the jackasses we work with could care less how they do their job. They take absolutley zero pride in their work. Now understand, that if they put a hat on a monkeys head and told him to do what I do, Im sure he would get the hang of it in about 45 minutes. Its the same shit everyday, no change, just mindless repetition, over and over, your job also Bobby. But like I said, it all goes back to the mutants in the postal system that dont give a fuck.

My attitude last summer was so bad, I could barely look at some of the fuckers I worked with. without wanting to just plant my fist in their skulls. They either were Taliban, retarded, or old douche bags that just wont retire. I was in such a rut that I knew I was really close to bringing this shit home and starting to take it out on my wife, who by the way, is the only reason Im still sane today. I had to make a concious effort to let the bullshit roll off and not let those fuckers get to me. I hope you can dig deep and do the same too Bobby, they just arent worth losing your mind or job over. I find using humor to deflect their nonsense works for me best, and while I still get annoyed, Id rather just goof on them and get a chuckle, then close line them and end thier miserable existance.

Mailhandler is such an easy job compared to Carrier. Ive done both and when I carried back in tyhe early 90's it was a great job, now it sucks. They have that DPS system, which is bullshit and comes all mixed up half the time. They have scanners to scan so Big POstal Brother can tell where you are all the time, and they jerk off suporvisors who shouldnt be allowed to dress themselves int he morning let alone try and give somebody orders.

Sorry for the rant, but Bobby P's explosion touched off a nerve with me too. Try and hang in Bobby, I wish ya luck.

Im a carrier too, I probobly pull a pantera 2 or 3 times a week. Luckily I dont have to work with mailhandlers ( no offense, my father is one) for some reason theres only clerks in my station. I used to be a clerk too and I know they think there better than the other two jobs. Most of them dont give a fuck and everytime we change the scheme in the office they dont even bother to try and learn it. It is aggravating but what happen to you Pantera %90 of the guys I work with pray for everyday so they can take an hour to throw all that shit and get OT for it. They're like wolves for OT it crazy. Anyway Im off to try not to fall on some assholes unshoveled sidewalks.

SEE YA

Stump nailed it.. Here's how the pecking order goes in the Postal World..

.First off, if your work for the the PO, your probably a monkey of some sort. Someone who gave another career a shot and either failed or had a stretch of bad luck where things didnt work out (me...lol) or your just a lazy slapass who peaked at 17 and this is a great career for you. I like to use my Planet of the Apes analogy to describe postal life...

Post Masters and Postal Supervisors...These are the Orangutans, or the Orange Monkey on Planet of the Apes. Theses guys have more drive and ambition than the other crafts, not neccessarily more smarts. They don't mind stepping on others to better their own situation, and certainly don't mind kissing ass. All about making job cuts, and getting their bonus, even at the cost of Customer Service and hurting a fellow employee.

Window Clerks, and Mail Sorting Clerks.. Like Stump said, they think they're better than everyone else in the PO. I guess cuz some get to wear a tie during the day. These are the Chimpanzee's of the Planet of the Post Office. They whine about everthing, are nasty too the customer, love to pass the buck, constantly fuck each other over, and are gerally sneaky pricks who don't know about hard work yet think they are killing themselves everyday! They are better than the carrier because they checked the right box when they took the Postal Exam.

Mail Carriers... Combo of Chimpanzee's and Gorillas, smart enough to case the mail,(except when the feel to chuck the mail up in the air, (aka Bobby P..lol), yet strong enough to donkey heavy shitloads of mail in rain, snow, humidity and all other kinds of shit weather. Far and away the hardest job, mentally and pyhsically, in the PO. Was fun before Big Postal Brother introduced the scanners to keep tabs on you, now it sucks!

And finally, me, Mailhandler. The Gorillas , usually retarded( i.e. retard stregnth), or foreign or both. Doest care about shit, lazy, and dull. I feel I dont fall into any of these catagories so I guess in my mind, I should king of the retards. Pushes mail around in circles all day and loads truck..Mindless boring , backbreaking work at times, Classic Underachievers...(FUCKING ME TO A T)

There ya go, probably, more info than most of yas care to know about the PO, but next time your waiting in line and your seething looking at the employyes in the back, think back and see if you can see the monkeys I described.. PEACE

wooo hooo just took the postal test yesterday, glad to see what i have to look forward to!

on a side note since there are quite a few postal workers here, how long does it take to find out your score?

i found out when i came home from the test that the new governor changed workmans comp laws, and that my pharmacy where i work wont be able to pay all of us when they do and ta-da NO MORE JOB FOR ME =-/

and you are so right... had another career, and >FLUSH< failed.

When I worked at UPS it was the same shit. The loaders would just pile shit from front to back of the truck and there were times youd go back to the same stop 5 times because you kept finding shit mixed it. Once, they loaded my truck so tight, there was truck tires I had for delivery and I could NOT get the doors open because they were pressed so hard against the back door. I had to take the truck to like 50 miles and hour and slam on the brakes to shift the shit enough to open the doors. Insane. No one gives a shit. Now, that guy knows how to piss you off Bobby! He will do it again because it will give him pleasure. Good luck!

Hey some of those platic cover open very easily on the seam. I hate when that happens. They do keep hiring Ptfs (part time flexis) so they can cut our damn OT. Dont sit around waiting Joe, It took 2 years I think when I hear I got hired to be a clerk on tour 1 (night shift) in a P&DC (processing and distribution center) is everyone getting this? So four years later Im still a PTF and still working tour 1 and I hear theyre are cutting our jobs so some super computer can fuck up the mail instead of us. I switched to Carrier and less than two years later Im a regular and luckily got to stay in my station and now I have a Uset (5 different routes every week). Its not bad cause it changes everyday but the tips arent as good.
