I drink a lot of coffee. A LOT of coffee. I have half a pot before I leave my house every work day, and then I usually stop mid-morning for another 16 oz. cup. I'll have another one or two cups in the afternoon and when I get home I make another pot.

On weekends, I'll pretty much have a pot on all day. I have a lot of friends and neighbors that just pop in on the weekend and I wouldn't dream of letting them have a cup alone so I always join them.

Today I had my normal half a pot in the morning and then went outside to try to shovel this ice/snow mess. I'd work on the driveway and take a break, go back out and work on the sidewalk and take a break, etc. I never put another pot of coffee on, though. Around 6PM I started getting a pounding headache. I thought I was getting another one of my migraines, but they usually hit me in the morning if I get one. Then it hit me; caffeine withdrawal. I immediately brewed up a pot.

I'm currently on my third cup and I feel fantastic!

I absolutely love coffee so I can't imagine ever giving it up, but I think it might be time to try and curb the amount of caffeine I ingest on a daily basis. Believe it or not, my heart rate is perfect and I sleep like a baby, but I don't want to have to deal with devastating headaches every time I go a few hours without caffeine.

Have any of you ever broken the habit?

Daily before work and at lunch I have an iced coffee or energy drink, 75mg ephedrine, double dose of ibuprofen, 2 creatine capsules, 2 amino acid capsules, 2 nitric oxide pills, 3 glucosamine, 1 msm. And at home one A,B,C,D,E, 2 calcium. 2 energy bars for lunch. I've found that double the dose of ephedrine, and double ibuprofen has roughly the same effects of a vicodin, except your numb and peppy.

Since last month i have replaced my caffeine intake with a multi-vitamin and 2 fish oils in the morning and i feel fantastic. I suggest trying vitamins, they might work for you too.

A few years ago, I would be able to down a 12 pack or two of coke in a couple of hours and have no problem with it. Now if I take a small sip of anything that has caffeine in it, I get terrible migraines (loss of vision, numbness, etc).

So now I've been 2 years caffeine free and haven't had any problems.

Love coffee, but I limit myself to two cups a day during the week. Otherwise I can't focus. It's especially bad on days I work from home and I don't have the constraints of a structured day. Instead of sitting at my desk doing expense reports, I'll pace the floor of my house, plotting to overthrow the government. Maybe that's why there's so much revolution in Central America - too much coffee.

Two liters of tea is definitely not a good idea.

I've cut way back on my coffee consumption. I do try to have at least one large mug of green tea a day, though. Especially if I'm not feeling well. When I'm sick, a cup of green tea makes me feel much better.

i loved coffee, the smell, the taste. everything about it. but the effects that caffeine makes me a mad man, more so than usual. It took a while but i beat it. i had to take naps everyday for a while to get over the mid afternoon downs and the headaches were killer.

I would get decaf but only if i brewed it. I have found that going into a place that sells coffee do not always give you decaf even if you ask it twice. I am looking at you Dunkin' and i am staring a whole in you.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this already and I'm to lazy to look. I found this article the professor had printed from an old neurobiology class. It might already be common knowledge (as this news is from 2000) but the medical director of the National Parkinson Foundation called a study that suggests drinking coffee could prevent Parkinson's disease "very good," but warned the results may not be applicable to the population at large.

The study found that men who didn't drink coffee were five times more likely to develop Parkinson's than those who drank the most - four to five 6-ounce cups a day. Non-coffee drinkers were two to three times more likely to get the degenerative brain disease than men who drank a half-cup to four cups a day.

The benefits are probably due to caffeine and not ehtnicity. Dr. G. Webster Ross who lead the study said it is possible that heavy coffee drinkers have a brain composition that may make them resistant to Parkinson's.

Previous studies have found low rates of Parkinson's in "thrill-seeking" people who tend to engage in high-risk behavior like smoking and heavy drinking, and heavy coffee drinking also fits that personality profile.

Ross also suggested that caffeine may somehow protect against the nerve-cell destruction that causes Parkinson's. Still, Ross said it is to early to recommend coffee as a treatment.

Ross said his study was larger than similiar previous research and took into account other factors that could explain the findings, such as cigarette smoking, which has also been linked to decreased Parkinson's risk.

The study is important because it traced the benefits to caffeine, showing similar results with caffeine-rich foods other than coffee.

I was a walking percolator myself, but I got hypertensive and had to cut back. Now I drink a 20 oz coffee in the morning, followed by an 8 oz and then I start drinking ginger tea with no caffiene.

If it's a workday, and I'm out the door, without breakfast, and let's say hungover, I will drink one or two red bulls. At work, several hours later, if I start to feel slow, I will drink a few iced coffees.

At home, on off-days I like to make a good pot of coffee, or go out and get a good cup.
