This may be one of the hardest, most embarrassing confessions I've ever made.

When the buddays talk about all the great movies of the 1990's, I cringe. For no particular reason, I just didn't go to the theater in the 90's. I tended bar for most of that time, and I guess I just spent too much time partying. I didn't rent movies either, because I rarely turned on a TV, other than the one we played in the bar. I can only remember going to 3 movies from 90-97 (all 3 were because various girls wanted to go).

Here's the list. Please have mercy on me.

Forrest Gump

Nell

Outbreak

I've since seen many of the good movies, but I've still missed a lot. What's your most culturally embarrassing decade?

I'm in the same boat, if not worse. The last movie I saw was Snow Falling On Cedars, of course because a girl wanted to see it. Before that I could not tell you a movie I saw, I just wait for them to hit DVD.

I think the 2000s are shaping up pretty badly for me -- last movie I saw in the theatre was "For Your Consideration", which was a piece of shit. Big disappointment after Best in Show, Mighty Wind, etc.

There are so many movies I've never seen. When they come up in conversation, just nod and say something ambiguous like -- "Good flick".

As far as going out to see movies, the 2000s for me are pretty dismal. I went to see the Departed not too recently. But I've caught alot of good stuff on DVD, some of which is a little dated. American Beauty, Snatch, The Cooler, Sideways, The Matador, and then Westerns like The Searchers, and Pat Garret and Billy the Kid. I almost always wait for the DVD now.

Why not just say you haven't seen it? I'm confused.

The last time we went to the movies on a weekend, some fuckfaced little pricks threw a whole cup of soda onto a girl's head a few seats from my wife. We left and got refunded, and I felt old.

I have an almost opposite problem. I've seen almost no movie from before like 1990. I just cannot stand to watch old movies. They always look so bad and so fake. The picture quality is usually just terrible.

There are some exceptions to this, though. Like the Godfathers for instance. But even a great movie like Scarface loses something because some scenes are just so cheesy.
