I just made a beeper joke with someone here at work and suddenly it hit me. Has ANYONE used these fucking things in the past 5 years? Cell phone service came down so much and coverage is so good now that there's like zero reason, at least that I can think of, to still have a pager/beeper.
I see you can still buy them, but does anyone in here still use them and why? I just can't think of a very good reason to still have one but I'm willing to listen.

I still use a beeper for dental emergency calls. I m not inclined to offer my cell number to numbnuts patients who want to complain about there teeth problems off hours. I could get an aswering service but the beeper is cheaper and as efficient. There my beeper story

OK, now that's a good reason to still have one. That's pretty much what I was interested in.
Just curious, how much does beeper service still cost? I would hope it's come down to near free with purchase of a new one at this point when you get $200 phones for free with a contract these days.

We have several technical people in the sales field that are in hospitals a good portion of the day, so they get cell phones/beepers. Something about not being able to use cell phones in hospitals.

I had some good beepers back in the day. Around 1994 or so I had this huge thing that cost $20 a month and it had up to the minute sports scores, stock ticker and news. When cell phones became the norm I had a smart beep and paid $1.99 a month. Then people stopped beeping me and only called my cell.

add another one to the dentist with a beeper....
However, I hate having one. I hate knowing people can get in touch with me at any hour of the day. I actually hate cell phones b/c people can call me, but I like being able to call at any moment.

A lot of people are being negative about "The Grind". Im getting upset, I was a dancer on the show back in the day and I'm being serious.
As for dance party USA I watched it when I was real young. Loved it but nothing beats the grind

I don't remember which dance party show it was on MTV, but I do remember being very frustrated being a young teen watching it.
Do you know how hard it is to masturbate to the girls while trying to avoid watching the guys dance? And then time it all to keep it all going until you get to the "End of the journey" only to open your eyes to one of those dopey host guys?
Jerking to The Grind might make you bi curious.

I think on call surgeons are the only ones who still use Beepers...
I also think that this exact topic and thread appeared a few months ago... way back in the 1.0 days....

Anyone else remember that Sir Mix-A-Lot song "Beepers"? It's easy to forget how huge beepers were just a few years ago.

dude, that was 18 years ago. to put it in perspective, the world trade center was constructed approx 18 years before that song. not exactly last week. :)

Dance fever was nothing like dance party USA, Club MTV, MTV's The Grind, shit fever wasnt even like bandstand or soul train.
Dance fever was more disco's version of ballroom dancing. When I was a kid Iwatched all those shows. It was like tv porn b/c the girls all looked and dressed as sexy as they could. What women wear now is way more sexy but no dance shows on tv left other then soul train.

still use beepers....and even that is going away. the new trend will be Internet Portable Phones in major cities that have a large WAN installed and working. Take a look at Skype.com, soon you wont even need a cell phone!

The IT department where I work still use beepers, they get various pages from various systems all day and night long. It's more like a huge text messaging device as opposed to a single number beeper thing.
