Who has the inferiority complex here? Ron and Fez are their own show, they are brilliant, funny individuals. It may shock you to hear, but the buddies had a show when O+A didn't. To say they wouldn't be on the air without O+A does sound like you are not apart of the 'team' you talk about.
Considering most people in this world work, which requires going to bed before midnight, and concievably might not let them listen live (streaming is block at work)--some people are going to get to hear the show that never get to listen. I wouldn't blame anyone for being excited to be able to hear the show. If Ron and Fez actually had a decent repeat slot during the day, I doubt there would be a single person expressing excitement.
And for the record I don't agree with the original post, but can 100% see where they are coming from.
correct me if I am wrong, but didnt O&A lobby hard to get the buddays to come to XM
while they were only on in WJFK?
Then R&F get a follow O&A to Free FM, I am sure O&A lobbied hard for them too there.
Hence without O&A, R&F would probably not be on Free FM and XM
I am on the team, and dont miss a second of both shows.
I was pissed that the poster was trying to divide and conquer
why would you say I have the inferiority complex? I support both shows

Like all news I read on the internet, until I see an official report, I'm not believing anything.
True true, I had to look up the number to call and have reconsidered. I want a confirmed source especially if the message is now gone.
FYI, the number is 1-800-XM-RADIO (1-800-967-2346). Duh

This is so much about politics, not special interest groups, not even the media. This is all about the merger and maybe some pressure from people who might stand in the way of it. This hasnt been a big news story, and it hasnt been a campaign by anyone but XM radio and thier partner in crime, the doggy. If O&A retired,or decided to go somewhere else I might have kept my subscriptions, but to have it end this way,XM has lost five subscriptions.

If this is true, then it appears XM is trying to provide some ammunition in response to protests from special interests groups, i.e. "if you don't like the show, you'll never hear it because you can only get it if you want the show. So who's being offended."

My helpful wife (badinia) just pointed out that the O&A picture that shows up as the background screen for 202 on the Inno has been removed and replaced with a close-up of a microphone (appropriately with no human presence). I think the robot gorillas have finally taken over.

Fired or not, cancel your subscription. Don't let XM think their actions or words have no consequences.
I'm wondering with XM in it's fragile finacial state and the ulikeliness of the Merger approval, that this is getting so big it might fold XM.
I'm thinking Mel Karmazin is behind this, he wants XM but not O&A and this is the perfect chance.

That Opie & Anthony were not suspended from XM for 30 days for what they said last week.
He said they were specifically suspended because they broke a contract between the boys and XM on NOT MENTIONING THE INCIDENT. They broke that contract and that is the REASON WHY they were suspended. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH A FREE SEECH ISSUE or the incident itself.
And he said they will be back on in 30 days or less. He also said that soon there will be news on the actually website explaining this issue in the next couple of days.

This is from XM Radio's site -
As you know, XM has suspended Opie & Anthony and ceased all broadcast of The Opie & Anthony Show on The Virus - XM 202 for 30 days, effective May 15, 2007.
Last Wednesday, Opie and Anthony made statements on their show that were deplorable. They issued an apology that day, but comments they made on their May 14th broadcast called into question whether they appreciate the seriousness of the matter. We give our on air talent creative freedom, however we expect them to take this responsibility seriously.
In the meantime, Ron & Fez will air in place of The O&A Show on XM 202.
If you have comments or questions, please email us at thevirus@xmradio.com

What did Imus and JV and Elvis have to do with the XM Sirius merger???
I believe this topic is about O & A not JV and Elvis. In fact the JV and Elvis thing did make the news and was kept topical as a story. The only ones keeping the O&A story alive has been XM. CBS is keeping O&A on the air, because this is not a story, its a corporate thing between O&A and their other employer.

No offense to anyone here, but is it really "getting so big?" Yes, if loyal listeners cancel, it will hurt XM, and may make them change their minds, but is OA XM's top draw?
Note, I'm not saying this to say people shouldn't call to cancel, etc, because I do think XM will take notice of this. I'm only asking about the size of O&A's XM audience.

Except that it automatically limits their potential audience, some they complained about back in the premium channel days. But, sadly, this might be the least bad option, considering the current environment.

XM will say anything to keep its paying customers. They "suspended" O & A because they feared having to deal with professional shakedown artists like Sharpton.

I'd imagine O&A fans make up probally 10% of XM subs, not much overall, but losing most of those subs combined with the fact that XM is barely showing any growth to investors they will be close to packin it in. Face it this company needs the Merger to survive.

Here is my letter to XM:
I originally subscribed to XM so that I could listen to music that was not country or classic rock while I was at work. One day, someone mentioned that there was a channel I might be interested in, 202. Said channel was a refreshing change from what I could hear on “regular” radio. It featured hosts who talked like real people, had senses of humor, and said and acted like “regular” people. To be honest, if I had not found 202 I would not still be a subscriber to XM as I get Sirius for free as part of my Dish Network TV service.
When the entire Imus comments flap came up, I did not worry that the shows I listened to would be affected because they were on an uncensored channel. Little did I know, that uncensored is not, in fact uncensored. Your company’s decision to suspend Opie and Anthony for a month is de facto censorship. By their show not being on the air, you are in fact, censoring them. Worse yet, the Ron and Fez show will not be as creative and expressive as it was before the O & A suspension. R & F are not idiots, they know how the radio business works, they realize that if the show for which their channel is named can be suspended – and possibly terminated after the suspension – they have to be that much more careful.
All this leads to the reason for my disappointment in your company. You tout channel 202 as uncensored; you tout O&A’s outrageous radio on your web site. Yet, you have suspended them because you do not think their apology for what some deemed an “offensive” bit was not sincere. What I think is not sincere, is your commitment to offering an alternative to “regular” radio. Are you so worried about your potential merger that you are turning into “regular” radio? Have you lost your commitment to offering quality, uncensored content? From my point of view you have let your subscribers down by not delivering the radio you have promised us. Please reconsider your suspension of O&A and show your customers that they matter to you.

I'm not making a claim of a gigantic audience for O&A ,but late last year E-Lo mentioned that the second highest reason for subscription from retail has been O&A, the first was baseball. The other day when E-Lo walked in on the show, thursday I think, he had an XM bean counter with him who said that 202's audience was much bigger then Oprah's. That doesnt prove a huge audience, but it does give it some stength.
I'd imagine O&A fans make up probally 10% of XM subs, not much overall, but losing most of those subs combined with the fact that XM is barely showing any growth to investors they will be close to packin it in. Face it this company needs the Merger to survive.

Exactly Gvac.
They simply said the current enviornment as far as radio is concerned is out of control. If O&A are really fired, as the rumors state, I can only hope they spend a least a month destroying XM on FM. XM is nothing but cowards in suits. Their top draw gets blasted in the media over nothing and instead of allowing them to intelligently defend themselves, as they did, they are forced to stay silent. Way to stand up for your employees.
The merger was never going to happen anyway. I hope XM gets a lot of Oprah subscribers, because their music channels suck ass.

Thats such a stupid thing to say. E-Lo isnt going to quit his job because his friends/co-workers got in trouble.
Exactly. Ron and Fez didn't leave WNEW when O&A originally got canned. If the rumors are true, and it happens again, I don't expect them to leave XM either.

why do people keep talking about these underground ways to listen
1) it sayd fuck you in writing to XM and R&F
2) it motivates XM to find these places and remove them.
3) this is not the time, or place, to talk about other ways to get the R&F show.

Opie & Anthony Update

Does anyone have any idea what was supposedly said yesterday that they're claiming is the reason for the suspension?
Peeps
05-15-2007, 01:53 PM
None of this adds up. Why would XM announce a suspension and fire them two hours later? A company would usually suspend an employee before firing them to conduct research into the matter. Do they put themselves in an actionable position? How does it affect the bottom line? Does it affect morale? I have a hard time believing the cadre of incompetents running XM (look at the financials) could come to conclusion so quickly and fire them, not because of the comment, but because of a percieved "slap in the face".
The media stopped paying attention last week. The story was over. As long as O&A were respectful in responding to the issue, there should not have been a problem. I found their argument to be very compelling. They stated their case and moved on. Could the XM officials really be that upset with what they said?
Maybe XM didn't want their headline act to be "shock jocks". Maybe Oprah made a call. Maybe they they are as stupid as their bottom line suggests. Maybe it is to garner good-will.
Whatever it is, it simply makes no sense, business or otherwise.
JPMNICK

they were not supposed to mention it, and they did. it was not what was said, just that something was said. XM said they violated a contract, and action was taken.

ATTENTION EVERYBODY
The guy at XM , when I called to ask for credit for my 2 radios said:
That Opie & Anthony were not suspended from XM for 30 days for what they said last week.
He said they were specifically suspended because they broke a contract between the boys and XM on NOT MENTIONING THE INCIDENT. They broke that contract and that is the REASON WHY they were suspended. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH A FREE SEECH ISSUE or the incident itself.
And he said they will be back on in 30 days or less. He also said that soon there will be news on the actually website explaining this issue in the next couple of days.
It sounds like BS to me. Why would there be a contract not to discuss something that happened last week? Why would O&A have any reason to agree not to talk about the segment? Both sides need to get something out of a contract, correct me if I am wrong, but I don't see what O&A would get from signing said contract.

if 10,000 subs cancel, that is an immediate loss of around 100,000k per month, or 1.2MILLION dollors for the next year. that is a massive amount of money to take off the bottom line of a company who is struggling to gain profitablity. it will be even worse if for some reason they have to pay out the remainder of O&A contract

I am very disappointed in your decision to suspend Opie and Anthony. I enjoy listening to XM for the uncensored content. The style of humor that O&A perform really needs an uncensored platform to be effective and I thought XM provided them such a platform.
I would like to see you rescind the suspension immediately. If you are unwilling to do that I would like a months refund on my account for the four (4) XM radio subscriptions that I currently have. If you are unable or unwilling to do that I will be forced to cancel all four subscriptions and will go out of my way to encourage others to do so as well.
In addition to that I will spend time campaigning against the XM-Sirius merger because it is apparent that there is no alternative in the marketplace if the merger was to take place.
Thank you for your time, I hope you find the courage to stand behind your on air personalities. Popular speech doesn't need protection, unpopular speech does.

what exactly would "paying the price for a few weeks" do. If you meant cancel for the 1 month suspension which means they are fired, that still is dumb. All that tells XM is that you are mad OnA were off.
THIS ISNT ABOUT OnA! This isn't about Ron and Fez either. This is about the fact that we pay the company money every month so we can listen to whatever we want, no matter what it is. And then they go and censor anything. I would be just as pissed if they were cancelling say ellen or anyone else shitty for the same reason. I pay to not have censorship, so I'm not gonna pay for nothing. Trust me, as I posted in the cancellation thread, I'm well aware of all of the repurcussions there are against R&F in the O&A "suspension/firing". I'm just not willing to work directly against the careers of R&F unless I get some indication that they are okay with or encourage that.
I completely understand that.
I have not cancelled my 2 subs yet.(Mainly because I don't feel like waiting on hold for 2 hours)
I will take the next day or two to see what the deal really is.
But, as much as I love the show, I don't think it's very smart for me to pay $20 a month to hear 3 hours of programming. I don't listen to anything besides 202. I don't like "mixes" of music. If I want to listen to music, I listen to the whole album. I used to listen to the sports talk and comedy channels, but I got bored of them.

And maybe, if you keep your show, you get fired next week for something a homeless man said.
it's not surprising that o and a got in trouble with the bbbbboys it's pretty normal attire
but i haven't seen to much controversy as far as the buddays
plus it's not like we didn't have a little bit of a runway as far as the opieandanthony situation is concerned
if it happens with Ron and Fez we're gonna know before they yank them
and if they do then xm can go fuck itself
don't get me wrong i don't think this cool or right or deserved
it's just not effecting the show that i listen to
i'm sorry man i turn off oanda all the time but i listen to ronandfez as much as possible

I can't believe that people think we automatically are obligated to cancel our subscriptions because of this.
No offense to O&A...I know they have very passionate fans, and I DO think they're getting a raw deal, but I would never cancel because I support Ron & Fez all the way and they're still on XM.
I can appreciate they efforts, but I don't need to read 800 times 'we all need to cancel immediately.'
That's definitely not going to happen.
Maybe you should cancel because XM is robbing your money. THIS IS BASICALLY A FUCKIN CRIME

can you read. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ONA. it has to do with the fact that you are paying for something you are no longer gettin as a whole. Would you pay a rental car company if they gave you a car that didn't work?
That's pretty much what this is. All shows aside, you are paying a company that works on the principal that you pay so you can hear anything you want, and then the company you pay doesn't let you hear anything you want.

That's a comment based on speculation.
It seems you believe that they were suspended because of the Condeleeza Rice thing.
I haven't seen anything to suggest THAT REASON is why they were suspended. If anything, it appears from the info we have that they were suspended because XM asked them to move on and not discuss it because they wanted to keep it in-house company business and they refused the company's wishes about it.
If it was about the Condeleeza Rice comment, then you'd definitely have a point...but honestly no one knows that's the truth.
And if it's like it appears to me, that the fact they didn't let it go is why they were suspended, then, yeah, it sucks, but that's about not respecting their employer's wishes...not censorship.
So I don't buy the 'XM is censoring their content' thing...at least, yet.

I love Ron and Fez, and never miss a show. However, I can't support a company that is now censoring the "uncensored" XL channels too. To be honest, that was the one thing not available elsewhere. I can get most of the other talk shows on terrestrial, and my iPod has more music than I could ever need. XM has just shit on the one thing that set them apart.
I just cancelled my 2 subscriptions. I will still be able to listen to R&F on my DirecTV feed, but I couldn't stand to reward XM by continuing to pay them.

I have just received word that O&A have been FIRED from XM!!!
I was told this by an extremely trusted source, and not an employee/relative of an XM employee.
Get on the phone, cancel your XM. DO NOT take the 30-day credit - CANCEL it! XM will feel that much more on their bottom line than a 30-day dip.
If XM feels the sting of thousands of people canceling their subs, then there is some sort of a chance!
The above info is 100% correct and confirmed by a VERY reliable source, they are off XM for good
Thanks, NFP, I was afraid of that! If you are a long term O&A fan, a "suspension" is a firing eventually, so, they just announced the 30 day suspension to save face, and find some replacement programming.
Again, I am worried how this will affect Ron & Fez. I guess we will find out tomorrow, I am sure they will not be able to discuss it during the FreeFM broadcast tonight.
Very sad day, and I am VERY PISSED OFF!!!:mad::mad:
Here is a post I seen on STI

Disappointing that the dufus Kramer could embolden those with such self-serving and flawed motives to have such sway with a lazy public.

Exactly. Until I hear a little more I don't want to think the worst.

Consider the source here - MYSPACE.

Although I stopped listening to O&A about a year ago, it really is bullshit. If it wasn't for Ron and Fez I would cancel my subscriptions.

I love O & A. I alos love Ron & Fez. So this isn't a slam at all, but...
Almost every thread I read on this board and others relating to the suspension/possible firing of O & A complains about the special interest groups, etc. I'm curious though about the legal issues surrounding what was said during that broadcast. I was listening when this all went down and immediately thought about the whole making comments about doing harm to the president even if said in jest. Does this not apply as well to other officials/first family?
The recent events surrounding other shows may have obscured their judgment regarding the comments made and led them to believe (as it seems everyone is doing) that this is more about censorship and special interest groups complaining than the legal issues surrounding comments on those under secret service protection.
Perhaps their cavalier attitude that this was censorship led to their suspension and they didn't appreciate the full ramifications of the comments made. Just my thoughts...
I also think this country is becoming a bastion of pussiness and crybabies, but there are still rules and laws....

So they go from building them a state of the art studio to kicking them to the curb? That's nuts!

I honestly think that the XM stance that they're being suspended for talking against their contract is a load of horse puckey (pardon my French). I believe it is a complete fabrication on their part, put out hours after the suspension press release because of the number of cancellation requests they saw coming in.
That's just my opinion, of course. And I'm well known in my area for being an idiot, so it's probably wrong.

This is wrong! If the bit would have been about Stalker Patty or H Cup Jane or any other person, this would be a non issue. Because they are public figures they get attention? What the fuck? A bit is a bit and we should be able to goof on anyone! This is wrong!

What O&A nation needs to do is cancel their XM subscriptions for 30 days. In this world money talks and O&A would be back on in no time. Imagine in 500,000 listeners canceled there XM account, that would mean $6.4m of lost revenue for the month. That would be bad for the Buddays though
Or we all can...
Contact XM and ask them to reduce their rate for this month they are not delivering on the service they advertized. In your cable is out, the cable company gives you a credit.
Welcome back Fezzie!!!

I don't see stalker patty talking about raping condoleeza rice, though the thought of that violent sexual encounter is kind of hilarious.
Oh wait, I think you were talking about something else :D
Public figures make the news a lot more than the average joe on the street, I'm not sure how long this trend has been going on, but I have a hunch that it's "forever".

If we can not goof on public figures, on satelite radio, we can not goof on anyone! Nobody deserves "better" protection from free speech than anyone else. O & A should be allowed to goof on anyone! Where is the outrage for E Rock or anyone they goof on? Because you are a public figure you become a target. This is the american way. What will we have to listen to next? Campfire songs is my guess!
