So I was driving about town today and a bunch of people were having a community garage sale. Lots of other people's junk on sale for cheap. I come across someone selling an electric Char Broil outdoor grill. Being that I live in a condo with strict fire code rules from the town I have wanted one of these for a while, I sometimes use my propane mini grill but if I ever got caught the town would fine me good. I ask the woman how much it costs and she says $15. Sold. It took me an hour to clean the mess of a grill that they had but it was worth it, I saved $170 over getting it new. Tried it out and it cooked up a bunch of hot dogs quite well.

Garage sales can be awesome if you find the right one at the right time. Anyone ever get any amazing deals at one? Something that someone else considered junk but you knew it was worth something.

When I was about 10 years old I remember buying a 2 Live Crew cassette for 25 cents from a garage sale in my neighbourhood. My favourite song off of that album was "Face Down, Ass Up".

"Antiques Roadshow" on PBS has lots of stories of yard sale discoveries. I love it when they pay 50 cents for something that ends up being worth $15,000.

Since we just got a whole bunch of presents for the wedding, Liz and I are planning to sell a ton of stuff at a yardsale in the near future. (Our old stuff, not the new stuff)

wow who gives actual presents as a gift for a wedding. I give money and so does everyone I know. My brother got all cash and checks for his wedding from 200 guests, not one wrapped gift.

sell the stuff on ebay as new, you will get more then selling them at a yard sale.

Wow. When F_S Moved To The NY Area From The Midwest And Started Going To Weddings, He Was Stunned To See Lots Of Envelopes With Cash. That Was Not What He Was Used To.

We got mostly cash, but we did get some presents, mainly a handmade quilt that is a family tradition and some other "needed" things off the registry to finish our china service. The majority of the presents came from the bridal shower.

Never really got any good deals at a yard sale, but I've tried a local weekly auction a couple of times. That can be pretty fun. You can see some pretty weird stuff, and sometimes get a great deal. The first time I went, I picked up a Yamaha AM/FM tuner for 12 bucks. I put it on Ebay, and it sold for around 120.

Im offended. Im 100% Italian are your trying to say.... lol no Im not offended but yeah it may be an North East thing. I was talking to one of my best friends who is from jersey but now lives in Virginia. He said at his wedding all of his guests gave cash/checks and all of his wifes guests (she from the VA) gave presents. Wow

Showers is when I would think most regular gifts come from. reminder sell whatever you dont want on ebay or try to return it, you will get so much less at garage/yard sales.

My sister in law and my ex loves to have garage sales selling their old shit. What a waste of time, my brother and I had to do so much work bringing all the shit out side, pricing it, getting tables, posting signs and then undoing it all when its done. You know what we got in return nothing the ladies kept the money to buy more shit that they will then sell in ayear or 2 for 1/100th of what they paid for it.

First edition hardback of Stephen King's first book 'Carrie' in really friggin good shape for $4. Sent it to him, he signed it, sent it back, it may well be worth $4.01 or more now.

I made $90 yesterday at our yards sale. I just brought a couple of things to my friends sale to sell. She made like 30 and I made 90. I hope that didn't piss her off too much. But I sold 1 dvd player, 2 vcr's, 1 scanner/printer. But, it's strange what people buy at yard sale's. This older gentleman was our first purchase of the day. He bought 2 flat irons(for womens hair).. WTF?? anyway! weird

I sold my sweet 1986 Dyno freestyle bike for about $25 in 1994. I had gotten it for Christmas in '86 and it was the first real bike I had, the one that my dad taught me to ride. Now I wish I still had it. http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/7868/rosebudsnowln2.jpg

I enjoy the crowds that come by at yardsales. Interesting folks. I enjoy hearing their opinions on politics, immigration, and race-relations.
