I own a (deactivated, sorry, but if the same thing happened to R+F I'd do the same) MyFi. But have never bought an Mp3 player or Ipod and have no desire to. Anyone else iPod-less in this iPod world?

My iPod is one of the best pieces of electronic equipment I own. It allows me to take all the music I could listen to in it's battery life with me everywhere.
You are missing out. You can get them fairly cheaply now and even a 1 gig player will hold a decent amount of stuff.

The newest generation of XM receivers (Inno, Skyfi3, Helix, etc.) are also MP3 players.
I like the Skyfi3, because you can plug in flash memory cards and basically have as much as you want, whereas the others have entirely internal memory.

Yeah, but I've tried out other players, including most of Creative's, a lot of Samsung's, and even the Zune, and I do seriously think that the IPod is the best player of them all.

I got a nano a few weeks ago and was freaked out by it not having an off button. Am I missing something? What's the battery life like on these things?

I know that on the regular IPods, you hold down Pause a few seconds to turn it off.

i couldn't agree more. i also hate the white earbuds.
i just got a SanDisk Sansa, which i love. 8gb with a MicroSD card slot. right now, they have 2gb cards, but next year, they're coming out with 4 and 8gb. Plus, you can set it up as drag-n-drop, so you don't have to use any itunes-style mangers (it comes with Rhapsody, which i don't use). Also has FM radio.

yeah, i've NEVER heard anything remotely good about i-tunes. if microsoft came out with the ipod people would be calling it another example of their "big brother" outlook.

yeah, but it's from apple, so it's innovative.
i haven't used itunes much, but i have computer illiterate friend who wanted help getting music onto his ipod. i was amazed at how over-complicated itunes makes the folder structure for storing files.
with my Sansa, i store all my music in one folder.
also forgot to mention, it has an audio recorder to record voice or fm radio and it plays videos (i don't use that feature much, but the video quality is great for the size of the screen).
oh yeah, and you can change the battery if it goes dead over time. i know they sell kits to do it with an ipod, but it's not particularly easy. with the Sansa, unscrew 4 screws, pop off the back plate, and pop out the battery.
/why do i feel like a Sansa salesman???

I finally broke down and got the 80 gig iPod about a month ago. I didn't bring a car with me when I moved to Chicago, so I just walk and take public transit everywhere, plus I have a ton of time between classes and/or work, and now I see why everyone has these things. Very easy to use, iTunes included, so I really don't know what people are complaining about.
While it's true that I'm a self-confessed gadget freak (and an Apple lover) I really don't have the need for an iPod or MP3 player.
I don't ride public transportation, so I'm always in my work truck or my car where I have radio and CDs.
At home I have iTunes on my computer.
I honestly don't know when I'd ever use it.
Besides, most of the cell phones coming out these days are also MP3 players that support all formats (MP3, m4a, AAC, AAC+, WMA, etc.) so most likely my next phone will have one.
Whether I'll walk around with ear buds jammed into my ears like a mind-numbed teenage zombie is doubtful, though.

I broke down and got an iPod for my birthday last October. Gotta admit, best damn thing I ever did. No more fumbling with CDs and I can add as many R&F clips as I like.

Who has problems using iTunes? Seriously, how much easier could it be? You can either set it to sync with your iTunes library or drap and drop music into the iPod. It lets you pick between a whole assload of formats including MP3 and lets you set the quality.
Either way you have to burn the music onto you comp or get the stuff offline with any player.
I've taken entire folders of stuff and just dragged it into the iTunes window. I do that with all the Ron and Fez stuff. I make it's own playlist in the iPod and drag whatever I want in there.
As for other MP3 players, I was looking at them when my iPod was dying a few years ago but none of them really had the storage I wanted. I heard "iRiver" over and over again but they don't have the storage an iPod has. And Ive heard too many bad things about the Zune to even bother.

not certain, but i think some of the things i heard might have had to do with multiple computers and also with mp3s that were on their computer before buying the ipod.
I don't either.

I don't have an ipod either due to an ear infucktion that has left me almost deaf in my left ear.
Listening in stereo means nothing to me now, so I'm saving what little hearing I have left.

All of my friends ask me why I don't have an ipod or mp3. I just use my myfi. When i go rollerblading I clip the antenna on my rollerblade and get great reception. The 5 hours of content it holds is enough in case I can’t get live XM. If I had an ipod I would overplay and kill songs that i like and get sick of them.

i'm with moe. i really like having all of my songs in one small place so i could just listen to whatever where ever. before the ipod came out i had one of those philips mp3 cd players & would have to carry around a ton of mp3 cds all separated out by genre & it was such a pain in the ass to find a song. the ipod is one of the greatest inventions ever.

I'm all over the place with MP3's. I have a 2 gig player, my Nexus holds mp3's, and I can plug my USB flash drive into my car stereo. I still end up filling them all with R&F shows and Internet radio shows. I hardly listen to music anymore. When I do, it's usually straight off of XM.
