Film here:

Skip past the little slide show.

I guess there was some kind of bike protest (maybe it was just a bike seizure) in NYC a couple of days ago and some dude was filming it. Cops arrested him for asking questions and it's all on film.

Anyone going to throw down over this? Or what's the part of the story that I am missing.

Story behind it:

If I were the arrested guy, I would be suing that cop for every thing he and his kids ever had.

Well, I agree that it seems, according to the article, "a normal maintenance procedure that got way out of control."

Maybe there were signs posted not to park your bike on the streets there? Who knows...

BUT.. if you are going to get in a cop's face with a camera and ask him his badge number, you're asking for trouble.

That officer looked like a seasoned veteran and he'll be damned to have some kid, from out of state, put him on the spot like that when he's just doing his job.

The bike seizure seems a bit too much, but the cops on the street are following orders from their superiors - take it up with them, don't bother the cops while they're just trying to do their jobs.

No... the law requires the officer to give his name and badge number when asked it. Macho bullshit is irrelevant.

Out of state doesn't matter... he showed his legal ID. You don't need a NY license to visit NY. The law requires you have an ID for where you live only.

This cop was a macho piece of shit.

Yea, he was over the top but I think the NYPD cops deserve some slack considering they are poorly paid and have the tough job of protecting America's largest city which also happens to be the #1 terrorist target.

So when some kid puts a camera in his face saying "I have the right!", it's gonna push his buttons and if he wants to detain you, HE has that right.

He was held and then let go, and you know that kid will think twice about doing that again, which is a good thing. We need our police to be able to do their jobs without distraction.

Like the other kid at the end of the video, filming into the police car and the cop asks the camera not to be in his car. The kid says "It's not in your car, it's on the street." Wise-ass remarks like that will get you in trouble.

And notice the cop never lost his cool. Never screamed or pushed the kid around. It could have gone the other way easily.

I don't know if the cop is a piece of shit, but he probably could have ended the situation quickly instead of arresting two people. We don't know if this guy is completely innocent, we don't know what happened before the video starts, he could have been harassing this cop for half an hour before hand.
