Do you ever just start saying a massively long number that just popped into your head for no reason other than to say it? Do you find that you repeat certian sequences within this meanigless stream?

Seven hundred and ninety six trillion, four hundred and eighty seven billion, five hundred and ninety two million, two hundred and fifty two thousand, three hundred and eighty two dollars and seventy seven cents....

large numbers make my brain hurt so much that i want to cause other people to hurt along with me. unless it's an amount in dollars that i'm winning from publisher's clearing house. did you know that i'm a finalist?

NOT the response I was expecting, but I can certainly see how it might seem weird if you never played this little game

He does it too, and we compared the sequences, and he also seems to say the same groups of numbers over and over again too. Must be a family thing

true story. Matematician Ed is doin some math with very large numbers, and he's doing the exponent thing, you know 10 to the third = 1000 and 10 to the sixth = 1 000 000 and he gets thinking, what about 10 to the 100th? a 1 followed by one hundred zeroes:

10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 ,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,0 00,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

so he asks his nine year old nephew for a name for this number...

Um...no.

Until you've brought it up to me in conversations I never think up random numbers on my own.

I say "35" over and over to myself sometimes when I'm nervous. I have no idea what the significance of this number is.

well, it does show that while there are numbers that are much larger then other numbers, there's really no such thing as a really big number.

one way to illustrate this would be seeing that the number one, and the largest number any of us can conceive, UberBazillion or whatever, are exactly and precisely the same distance from Infinity.

It's a thread about nothing, the best kind. It's all the other threads that are pointless. I can find out about Paris Hilton anywhere else on the net.
