View Full Version : Does Money Have A Hold On You?

F_S Was Out Working In The Yard Right Just Now And Listening To C-Span And Some Dope Called In With The "Cheney Took Us To War To Enrich Himself And His Friends" Claptrap. Fat Hears This And Wonders "Why Would A Person Who Is Already Worth $500 Million Dollars Take The Country To War To Make More Money For Himself And A Few Friends? How Would His Life Change If He Had $800 Million Instead Of $500 Million?"

So Fat Starts Thinking On (A) The Macro Level Does Money Have That Much Of A Hold On People Like Cheney That They Would Take Us To War, And Then (B) On The Micro Level, How Much Hold Does Money Have On F_S Himself, And On You People.

To Answer (A): No, F_S Cannot Believe That Personal Greed Is Driving The Iraq War.

To Answer (B): F-S Made A Boatload Of Extra Money Between 2000-2005 Through Some Very Good Business Decisions, And Lost Almost All Of It In 2006-2007 Through Some Very Bad Decisions. The Funny Part Is, When He Made All The Money It Didn't Make Him Happy, And When He Lost It, It Didn't Make Him Sad. His Life/Lifestyle Did Not Change With Or Without The Extra Money.

As Long As His Bills Are Paid, Fat's Concluded That Money Has No Hold Over Him.

So Please Answer (A) Or (B) Or Both.

Man, Fat asks some good questions.

A) I don't think personal greed is driving the war Iraq, but I do think that corporate greed could play a part in it. I'm not saying that corporations are responsible about it, but I do think that as long as there are corporation making money from it, they are going to try and make as much money as they can from it. I don't know if I can blame them, making as much money as they can is what corporations are supposed to do.

B) I'm a poor college student, so of course I'd like to have more money, however I don't think having tons of money would make me much more happy. I just want enough to cover my basic needs, and maybe do some traveling.

Its a tough question F_S.. I have never really had money.. But i am coming to a time when i will soon have quite a alot of it.. I will give to Charity when i do have money.. Its a very hard question to answer.. To answer your 500-800 mil question.. No it would not make a difference..

I don't think it has a hold on me at all. I'm not greedy, wanting more and more. I'm comfortable living in a modest townhouse though we could afford something better. I like having enough $$ to pay the bills and to buy a few pricey items like a 60' tv without thinking about it, but I don't wish I was rich. I see so many corrupt rich people that I can't help but think a lot of money changes people into assholes. I'd like to think I'd be the exception if I did somehow come into a lot of money and give most of it to charity or open an animal rescue farm, but I never play the lottery or anything so I don't know how that would ever happen.

Great question F_S.

I came into money after my dad died 1988.

I invested well. The mid-90s was a boon.

I bought an apt that appreciated quite well.

My choice in cars isn;'t very cool, but it gets me places.

I would say yes, money has a hold on me to a point. I never really had any growing up; my mother was a single parent working in the rehabilitation field and didn't make much. I can remember her crying because she had $3 in her checking acount and bills to pay. I'm 32 now and have made a ton of money in the past 5 years and I've just realized I've pissed a lot of it away. My wife and I have done some good things with it; we've traveled a lot, have a good retirement fund(s) started and actually bought another rental property but I'm starting to regret the overall lifestyle I've been living. I've recently made a conscious to lower my profile for lack of a better term. All of this to say I've created a little bit of a monster but I'm working on getting that fucker under my control.

i love it too, but i always end up with poison ivy. but, to stay on topic, i'd let someone rub poison ivy on me for enough money. money has a hold on me, but i can't seem to get a hold on it! punny, i know.

The REAL question is, how does F_S work in the yard AND watch C-Span at the same time??? I am picturing F_S in plaid pants, a big floppy hat, a pipe in his mouth, trimming the hedges while at the same time leaning sideways peering in through a living room window watching a big ole console Magnavox. Very Norman Rockwell-ish.

C-Span Is On Xm, Sucka! F_S Just Backs The Car Up To Where-Ever He's Working And Turns On The Car Radio! He Woulda Much Rather Had R & F Re-Runs Playing, But It Was Some Other Not-So-Funny People On, So He Switched Over To C-Span.

After That, He Put On A Byrds CD...To Make James Marvin Z Happy!
