I'm paying 25 cents a pack for cigarettes. I hear from alot of people I meet they want to quit smoking when they go home and I tell them to think about the prices: "Pretend you're a really cheap bastard and 25 cents is the norm and now you're being asked to pay _____ back home. What an outrage! And you should have no problem quitting out of disgust."

But also the prices vary so much from state to state and country to country - it's mostly taxes. In the UK they seem to average about $8 - more in London. Eastern Europe I've heard as low as a buck or two. In New York a couple years ago I paid $7 and in Arizona I paid $3. I'm sure in tobacco states, (like in one of the Carolinas where one of your House Members has a sign on his desk in Congress that says "Smokers Welcome") I'm sure they're cheaper.

So what are you paying and where?

BTW a beer costs 50 cents here and a Coke is 75. Sucks for me, being an alcoholic and all.

I don't smoke, so I don't know how much a pack costs, but I do know that in Richmond, Philip Morris has representatives go around to bars and give away free packs of cigarettes.

I tried to quit smoking when I was in Saudi Arabia. Then I found that a carton of butts was only $15.

I don't smoke but I often pick up Marlboro Lights for a friend while I'm out or Marlboro Mediums on my way out to my band's house.

In NJ I pay about $6-$7 a pack. But if I buy them out in PA they get as cheap as about $4.50 a pack. So I sometimes ask my friend I work with if he wants me to get him Lights while I'm out there. That's a big savings when you start getting a couple packs a week.

I was out in Chicago like over 5 years ago by now and out there it was $7 a pack way back then. We were shocked. I wonder what it is now.
