Seriously, the guys are hilarious, have zero beef with our own boys, and in my opinion get better every year. Don't be so pretentious as to think that since this is a R&F site that the boys will hate if you take attention away from them, they won't. State your true opinion, seriously, what's the fucking problem?

let me start off by saying i listen to every minute of both shows. i started off as a HUGE O&A fan, got into R&F, and now I like R&F more.

just like at FBA, wackbag, STI and other sites, I think 80-90% of the members at least like both shows, if not love both. obviously this is an R&F site 1st, O&A 2nd, so there are going to be people here who do not like them. they are very different shows, one is def more shock based, and the other more of a relaxed friendly vibe. i think each show appeals to different type of listeners. some people like both, and others make the choice. I do not think there is hate towards them, but some people just may not be a fan

I enjoy O&A and listen to their show quite a bit. They are hilarious. I love Lil' Jimmy, too. He put on a great show at his HBO taping here in DC.

There are some people on this board who don't like O&A and that's their right. Most of them don't make a big deal about it, other than the rare "I hate O&A" thread. I think that the recent spate of awful O&A related threads has brought more of these people out of the woodwork. To post a bunch of threads that are either regurgitated or completely useless is not the same as posting threads with some forethought. If I went and posted 45 threads about The Office in one month, people would get tired of me and tired of threads about The Office, even if they liked it.

I think there's a lot of disappointment out there about the way the show was, and the way it is today. I'm not going to argue with anyone about it so don't bother, but let's put it this way:

You loved the show when it was light and fun (WNEW), now it seems very dark and cynical, it's like a room full of Nortons, which is a bit overbearing. I personally am not as big of a fan as I once was, but I certainly don't hate the show. I still listen and enjoy, but at this point I would say it's my third option behind R&F and my IPod. In many ways I actually think Manelli's last email critique was dead on, unfortunately it seems like O&A aren't listening. They're still very very funny, and the shows the did directly after the XM suspension were some of the most hysterical I've ever heard, but I can only hear so many Robert Reed jokes before I get sick of it.

I completely understand that there's a different climate in radio today, and things that O & A got away with on WNEW are even questionable on satellite radio, as crazy as that sounds. It must be nearly impossible to work under such conditions, never knowing if something you say or do on the air will lead to you losing your job yet again.

I also feel, though, that O & A aren't even sure themselves what kind of show they want to do. I would assume that at their age they're no longer interested in just being "shocking" or "in your face" and they probably want to grow their show up a little bit. I think they're having a really hard time figuring out how to do that, though.

I have faith they'll figure it out sooner or later, though. There's much too much talent there for them to stagnate.

Moe, I have to disagree with you here. The O&A "hate" that pops up here is not hate, just people getting opinions off of their chests. If everyone believes in "free speech" and "support P.A.C.", then why should they be "attacked" for giving their opinion. This is the same shit I went through on Wackbag. They say all the right things; free speech, P.A.C. etc; but they are hippocrates. I was in a few discussions with some of the "favorites" there. It was about how O&A repeat themselves a lot and how every show seemed to re-cap the previous show. The ONLY responses were "Go back to Howard", "Howard fan", "Why do you listen? Go back to Sirius" etc.... I received IM's that were filled with hate and disparaging remarks, so I then returned messages with the worst filth imaginable and then promptly got banned. When I sent the admin a message about what happened, the response I received was "you are banned fuck-hole. Go back to Howie and suck his dick". I don't want this site to turn into that. So it doesn't mean making unfavorable comments about O&A mean you are a trolling Howard fan.

Agreed. The "shock jock" and "cringe humor" went away years ago. I understand that radio rules suck, but if they would just grow up, I think their show would be getting better ratings than they are now. The last thing we need is morning zoo radio and political talk, christ, XM has enough of that right now. Honestly, in my opinion, their best radio in the past 9 months was when the Imus stuff was happening. Their show got pretty serious, Anthony was at the top of his game, Jimmy even got serious for the most part but Opie really had nothing on the topic. I think they can be funny and entertaining, they just need to figure it out. Hint: 4 hours on boiled meat, constant gay references, hours on the "big boy made dooty" and replaying clips and jokes and the "let's get everyone up to speed" thing just isn't working. If 13 years together and Opie doing radio for 20-some years and you can't re-invent yourselves, time to move on.

I love Anthony and Jimmy and all the other comics on the show (or most of them anyway), especially when they get into frivolous discussions about non-issues like Wings Hauser's pimp roles, because it's perfect random hilarious bullshit that your best buddies would be rambling on about, and everyone's laughing their balls off.

Tony's rise to radio fame is also a true inspiration to everyone. I like the 'rags to riches' thing. (Sorry if calling him Tony un-impresses ya Ronny) Opie is also fundamental and essential to the O&A show, and keeping it running. He built the whole thing up, and if he hadn't and made a popular show, who's to say WNEW would ever have hired R&F along with other talk show lineups that were being aired explicitly because of O&A's meteoric success there?

Having said that here's my BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT... some issues get played out and over-done... some bits are over-cooked, others are not cooked enough. Get the metaphor ya mouthbreathers? And yes, Opie has been the catalyst of killing a great roll Jimmy+Ant are on with each other by making them move on to talk about some news clip...and he's been the catalyst of bitching about something going wrong or someone talking shit. It used to charge me up but after awhile I guess it just seems like alot of bitterness... and I'm sick of that shit in general. The callers with their anti-woman misogyny and their anti-black Patrice hating annoys me as well... Steve C making anti-woman promos are funny because Steve is a funny guy... Joe Mechanic calling in just to call the rare female guest O&A have a cunt on the air is pathetic woman-hating bitterness that makes me want to grab the guy and knock his teeth out. I don't like feeling like that. So yeah, I'd want to see that changed up a bit.

But they give ya 5+ hours a day of radio... it's inevitable u won't hit a homerun with every bit. And I don't fault the boys for that. If I don't like it... I turn it down, mute it, (but leave the radio on so they can get ratings... I think... not sure how radio ratings works) and check back in every 5 or so minutes.

So yeah, there's things I'd want to see worked on for the show, like anything people likes. Nothing's perfect. If it was all the good shit would get boring since that's all we'd ever see. We'd get used to it. All I can say, really... Is keep up the great work b-b-b-b-boys.

I am glad that the options are there, I just choose to flip over to some recorded R&F shows during that dark time between noon and midnight.

While I also agree that the boys are probobly past the whole "shock jock" thing (at least Ant is - not sure what the deal is with opie) I cant fathom why they keep norton around. There is no way they will ever be able to transform or change with him around. It is the same stupid way over the top shit with him all day all night. In '82 I started listening to the Howard Stern Show on DC-101. It was "shocking" radio. My friend and I went out and got his album. That was "shocking" too. When Howard left, we listened to the Greaseman. Then Howard's show came on the E! Channel in the nineties. I watched it. Then got sick of it. I got XM last December not knowing anything about O&A or Ron and Fez. Ron and Fez is the most unique radio show I've ever heard. As far as O&A goes, the suspension definitely changed things--but I think Opie and Anthony are like opposing talents that work strongly together, and Jimmy is an intelligent, brutal comic. All together they make a great radio show unlike any other.
Why all the O&A hate? I may be ignorant, but I didn't know there was a lot of O&A hate, outside of right-wing conservative evangelical fundamental middle-america types. Turn off the radio if you hate them....

I think there's a lot of disappointment out there about the way the show was, and the way it is today. I'm not going to argue with anyone about it so don't bother, but let's put it this way:

You loved the show when it was light and fun (WNEW), now it seems very dark and cynical, it's like a room full of Nortons, which is a bit overbearing. I personally am not as big of a fan as I once was, but I certainly don't hate the show. I still listen and enjoy, but at this point I would say it's my third option behind R&F and my IPod. In many ways I actually think Manelli's last email critique was dead on, unfortunately it seems like O&A aren't listening. They're still very very funny, and the shows the did directly after the XM suspension were some of the most hysterical I've ever heard, but I can only hear so many Robert Reed jokes before I get sick of it.

i think a lot of it has to do with the difference between morning and afternoon drive. In the morning you are expected to do more news driven stuff, while in the afternoon in is a different vibe

Seriously, the guys are hilarious, have zero beef with our own boys, and in my opinion get better every year. Don't be so pretentious as to think that since this is a R&F site that the boys will hate if you take attention away from them, they won't. Here is my problem, they are angry, selfish, entitled cunts. People have different ideas about what funny is. I for instance, enjoy less vicious, less negative, and more intelligent talk radio. Sure Ron and Fez are edgy, but completely soulless? No way. To be as mean and vicious as Jim Norton and Opie, or as selfish and entitled as Anthony is not something people should aspire too. I was a rabid hard-core O&A fan for a long time, but it became so mean, and so negative, that it really started effecting me in a negative way. Fuck them. They do what they do, and that's fine. I just hate them and consider them vicious cunts.

Yeah....that's how strongly I feel. I'm in an angry, proactive mood today, and if it's overkill, well, you're probably right. In 20 minutes from now I'll download the latest news from NPR or CBC and smile as XM doesn't get my sub money, and O&A lose fans, one at a time.

that's the part that's odd to me. you always came across (to me anyway) as a bit angry and aggressive. seems weird that these are the traits you now despise in o&a. well, that's your option, can't tell you you're wrong since it is an opinion.

You're not wrong at all...you're right. I gotta start thinking more positively...turn over a new leaf perhaps. ADHD is part of the problem, but I blame myself....not the disorder...cuz I'm doing something about it, not just sitting on my hands. I waste so much time being a negative prick that I miss the point sometimes. Just human I guess.

How bout this - Ron and Fez is a great show. I love listening to it. I don't listen to Opie and Anthony anymore, but I sure had a great time listening to it in the past.
