You've forgotten that the Obama campaign has unlimited resources. Check and mate.

Its not money, its people and time. There are always limited resources.

In Iowa, Kerry Leads in Early Voting
The Des Moines Register's Iowa Poll "shows 48% of Iowans likely to vote in Tuesday's election, or who have already voted by absentee ballot," support Sen. John Kerry and 45% back President Bush.

"Twenty-seven percent of Iowa adults surveyed said they had already voted. Kerry leads Bush, 52 percent to 41 percent, among that group of early-bird voters."

Blast from the past

It could work this time around. According to the Ralston Report as of Tuesday, 183,252 Clark County voters had already gone to the polls – a record 24,042 on Tuesday alone. Add 34,744 absentee ballots delivered to election offices, and the total is 217,996. That means about a quarter of southern Nevada's registered voters have already cast ballots – that adds up to a lead for Kerry's of 7,042 for the early vote, and a slim lead in absentee ballots of 143. Kerry's total lead in Clark County is 7,185, adding up to a three percent advantage over Bush so far. Since most analysts see more Republicans voting early than Dems, the early lead for Kerry is seen as a good omen for the Kerry camp.

Next to nothing about this election season resembles 2004, especialy in terms of which states are tracking for who...why do you refuse to acknowledge that?

Actually we are encouraging strong dems & everyone. The point is to diminish lines on Tuesday as to not discourage voters.

You know....encouraging democracy.

I'll enjoy that spacious empty town hall when I go to vote MCCAIN on Tuesday!!!!

Popular Vote: Obama 53%, McCain 46%
Electoral Vote: Obama 374, McCain 164
Senate Alignment: Democrats 59*, Republicans 41 (*-Lieberman causing with Dems) (Dem pickups in Alaska, Colordo, Georgia, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oregon, Virginia)
House Alignment: Democrats 254, Republicans 185
Governorship Alignment: Democrats 29, Republicans 21

Biggest Democratic Pickup (other than the presidency) of the night: Al Franken defeating Norm Coleman for the Senate in Minnesota
Biggest Republican Pickup: There will be no pickups in the Presidential, Governor or Senate races. So I guess I'd have to say what their biggest victory will be then. McConnell holding on to his senate in Kentucky, and Roger Wicker defending the seat Mississippi will be the two biggest.

Worst Democratic Defeat: Tom Allen will lose by double digits to Susan Collins in the Maine senate race
Worst Republican Defeat (other than President): Coleman going down would hurt big time, but Chris Shays will lose his house seat in Connecticut, thus relegating the last semblance of GOP influence in New England to Maine.

Biggest Surprise of the night: McCain will win Arizona, but by less than 3%.

Closest races of the night: North Carolina and Georgia. Both will go well past the presidential race being called, and will be recounted in relation to the Senate races. In the end, Obama will take NC, McCain will take Georgia.

Colorado will put Obama over the top; we'll know the next President before midnight.

There's a hotly contested Governors race and Senate race in NC. Both sides are going to turnout big time.

I just can't see it being a runaway.

Ohio and PA look to be firming up for Obama. I could see those races being called an hour and change after the polls close.

I don't have a feel for Florida yet.

Florida gives me faith because of the relocated new yorkers and the hispanics...but i fear the hayseeds cuz Florida has probably the most disgusting stupid redneck trash in this entire country too

I just know being from New York how many people recently have been relocating to NC and just hear so much about it, I guess I'm a bit closer to "feeling" the change in that state. Also it seems to have a lot of cities and a high urban population

Since I'm in Ohio, I don't have much faith cuz i see all the McCain/Palin stuff around..but they say Cincinnati area is a more conservative area so who knows?

I want to point something interesting out. We've all talked about how the map is evolving and how some of us thing that Senator Obama is changing that map. Either way here is an indicator of how different 2008 is than 2004:

Obama's Saturday schedule: Nevada, Colorado and Missouri
Biden's Saturday schedule: Indiana and 2 stops in Ohio.

What is the connecting factor in those stops? ALL of those states voted for Bush in 2004.

Senator Obama has been able to shore up those Kerry voting states so well that he's expanded the map to the point that he is able to spend the last weekend before the election in exclusively traditionally "red" states.

That is amazing. The times, they are a changin'.

Montana and North Dakota are big surprises. I wouldn't dare to hope. However, KC has never been wrong before.

Both states are pretty close right now, but I was reading Chuck Todd's column today, about what he's looking for on election day, and he actually made a pretty good point about State Parties.

One of the reasons that Obama is contesting so many states that Kerry and Gore didn't is because the Democrats have invested a ton of money in building complete party operations in all 50 states.

A lot of credit obviously goes to Obama, but a lot also goes to Howard Dean who really made that his objective when he took over.

Conversely, the RNC is a complete mess at the local level. There's states where local operations have just broken down, there's states that they're effectively pulling out of...the whole thing has been mismanged.

Montana is one of those states where the Democrats have a huge edge in terms of organization.

In states that are less than 5% in polls, organization makes all the difference in the world.

I'll confess I don't know a ton about North Dakota's politics, but I'm basically subscribing to the theory that they'll both go the same way, since they're so demographically similar, and they've polled almost indentically the entire election cycle.

good points on everything! For Dems, the possibility of moving an electorate with a good ground op breaksdown as follows.

Urban+9
Suburbs+2
Rural- insignificant

For Republicans it is completely opposite

Urban-(-5) thats why we dont bother.
Suburbs (+8)
Rural (+1)

Montana GOP is a nightmare. But GOP state orgs are still better overall. Ohio, PA, FL, VA, etc are still better orgs than the Dem counterparts. However, that gap has closed significantly.

I've heard good things (the term 'good' may not be appropriate here...but they know how to win elections) about the GOP operations in Ohio and Florida.

But you're crazy if you think the GOP has a stronger operation than Rendell's in PA.

I don't know why you think the GOP organization is still strong in Virginia. They've been decimated in recent elections, and the Democrats have pounced on that state, similar to how they have on Colorado.

Virginia is historically democratic at the state and local level - I think alot of it goes back to the southern democrat. We have, for my lifetime had a mix that slanted rep. in the congress and a split with the senate until Allen took Robbs seat several cycles ago. The GOP is strong in most of the state and aside from Northern Virginia I really think saying the Democrats have pounced on the state is a bit much.

From the standpoint of a State party apparatus, yes the Republican orgs are better. Rendell's "machine" is an old school type of quasi-govt machine. Virginia got hurt by bad policy and a bad national enviornment but as far as political orgs go, VA GOP is far better. I hear what you're saying, but as far as apparatus for winning elections goes, they are superior.

Here's something I was pondering this afternoon: after all the "The Clinton Brothers are destroying Obama's chances of being elected" talk in the primaries, has anyone else come to the conclusion that she helped more than she hurt in the end? The reason I think this is because I think it explains why so many of the McCain campaign's attacks have fallen so flat. Ayers, ACORN, Wright, whatever, it all sounds so played now. And I think a lot of voters think that if there were anything to these stories, if they were bad enough to derail his campaign, Hillary would have used them. That thought defuses them quite a bit.

I mean, I'm not willing to let her off the hook for an awful, scummy campaign, but I don't think it did the damage we feared at the time, and maybe helped to get some of this shit out in the open before the general election.

well remember, it was a different electorate in the primary. There is also a different dynamic now in the campaign. To that end, Obama has gotten lucky. They have helped by being team players during the general and havent undercut him.

Serious question. Do you think the recent leak of the coal fired power station comments by Obama will have enough backlash in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and even Virginia to make a difference? It's too late in my opinion, but who knows. Had the comment occurred/played a week or two ago, then yes I think this could have hurt Obama.

On another note, I just want to say thanks to all of you for your great insight over the last several months. I have always voted Republican, as do most of those surround me both professionally and privately; it is nice to get to read logical view points - from most of you - in support of, or in the odd opposition of, Obama that don't come from a crazed lunatic like Olberman or Hannity.

I dont think it is having the effect that it could have if it came out a week ago, but it is definately having an effect in Western PA. I suspect that tomorrows PA tracking polls will have McCain moving +4. Is that enough, who knows.

No it won't matter and I'll tell you why.

McCain shot his load awhile ago. Having gone negative 6 weeks ago, America has gone tone deaf to it all and ain't listening anymore.

Outside of showing up on TV tonight with Bin Laden's head on a stick, McCain nor Obama is going to change many minds at this point.

That was the only poll in the last month (and it wasn't comprehensive) and like you said it stopped with two weeks to go. Youre right today is closer to 36. Noone knows the model. Noone. I look at Tennessee which has been strangely out of reach all along for Obama. It doesnt make much sense. Tennessee is usually a swing state in a strong Dem year. Why is it so off? Why is Louisiana so off? If this were a big Obama landslide, those states would be closer in play.

We all better hope this isn't like Carter's term.

Obama's really trapped the way Carter was trapped. How will he follow through on the concessions we're supposed to make to the world while protecting American businesses abroad? He's made promises to crucial crossover voters who come from a wide variety of voting groups. Can he win reelection after inevitably pissing off a chunk of those voters? After he's already satisfactorily made history by being elected once?

I have this neighbor whose teen son is into some kind of noise called The 2008 Presidential Election. I hear him blasting it from his car, and the so called voting cracks me up. Is it a gay thing? I never see him hanging with chicks? Can someone please tell me what's the story with this awful noise?

Obamas security force.

GOP Election Board members have been tossed out of polling stations in at least half a dozen polling stations in Philadelphia because of their party status.

A Pennsylvania judge previously ruled that court-appointed poll watchers could be NOT removed from their boards by an on-site election judge, but that is exactly what is happening, according to sources on the ground.

It is the duty of election board workers to monitor and guard the integrity of the voting process.

Denying access to the minority (in this case Republican) poll watchers and inspectors is a violation of Pennsylvania state law. Those who violate the law can be punished with a misdemeanor and subjected to a fine of $1,000 and sent to prison between one month and two years.

Those on site are describing the situation as "pandemonium" and there may be video coming of the chaos.

Some of the precincts where Republicans have been removed are: the 44th Ward, 12th and 13th divisions; 6th Ward, 12th division; 32nd Ward, Division 28.

“Election board officials guard the legitimacy of the election process and the idea that Republicans are being intimidated and banned for partisan purposes does not allow for an honest and open election process,” said McCain-Palin spokesman Ben Porritt in a statement to Townhall.

The City of Brotherly Love was roiled in controversy during the 2004 election because of rigged voting machines that showed nearly 2,000 votes for Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry before the polls had opened. A man also used a gun to intimidate poll workers at Ward 30, division 11 in 2004.

What is there to argue?

(1) You post a video with the racist title "Obama's Security" (which I said as much) and defend that to someone else by a series of connect-the-dot/guilt by association that has been consistant with the Republican's campaign.

(2) THE LINK YOU GAVE WAS TO A RIGHT WING BLOGGER!

That is far from "default" but simply pointing the source of your fucking link - but, of course, you like to assume the rest of us (even a registered Republican) are into making connect-the-dot/guilt by association assumptions.

John Mccain For President!!!!!!!

It is the end, my friend. (http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/11/todays-polls-and-final-election.html)

It's Tuesday, November 4th, 2008, Election Day in America. The last polls have straggled in, and show little sign of mercy for John McCain. Barack Obama appears poised for a decisive electoral victory.

Our model projects that Obama will win all states won by John Kerry in 2004, in addition to Iowa, New Mexico, Colorado, Ohio, Virginia, Nevada, Florida and North Carolina, while narrowly losing Missouri and Indiana. These states total 353 electoral votes. Our official projection, which looks at these outcomes probabilistically -- for instance, assigns North Carolina's 15 electoral votes to Obama 59 percent of the time -- comes up with an incrementally more conservative projection of 348.6 electoral votes.

We also project Obama to win the popular vote by 6.1 points; his lead is slightly larger than that in the polls now, but our model accounts for the fact that candidates with large leads in the polls typically underperform their numbers by a small margin on Election Day.
