I was torn whether or not to put this in the Politics and Current Events Forum or the Entertainment Forum, so if a Mod decides to move it there will be no hard feelings!

Anyway, I read mediamatters.org daily and they post a lot of his rants and blatantly racist and homophobic remarks. They seemed like the harmless diatribe of a bigot until I found out he has 8 MILLION listeners a week.

So... does anybody listen to this guy? If so, why? Is he as bad as they make him out to be or are a lot of things he says taken out of context?

Um, sorry. He's another "The Sky is Falling" Conservative keeping his listeners in a perpetual state of PANIC!!! that the "Libs" are gonna come and take away OUR AMERICA!!! from us with Gay Marriage, Entitlement Programs and whatever else is in the news that day.

He's no more or less entertaining than his counterparts. He's just more desperate to get people's attention so he has to say more outrageous things to remind people he exists.

This should be in the in the Radio Buddays forum. It's well known he's a great friend of the show.

I actually caught him last night for the first time in a year or so and he seemed like he got more offensive. I couldn't believe what he gets away with and he's serious. Constantly referred to San Fran as San Fagsisco, said anyone who would allow themselves to be seen by a muslim doctor or nurse is insane and supports terrorism then something along the lines of Bush supports wetback terrorists. Uses all the slurs.

Like any right radio I guarantee a good portion of the audience is comprised of many people who disagree. Arguing is the gimmick.

The irony is that prick chooses to live in the San Francisco area. It must not be so awful ...

Honestly he is as offensive as advertised and brings nothing to the discourse of this nation. His entire schtick is about scaring the shit out of white heterosexual males and their natural place in the world. I don't understand how people listen to hours a day of that shit.

The Other Irony Is That His Real Name Is Actually Michael Weiner. It Is Really Hard To Consider A Weiner As Somehow "Savage".

F_S Listens Once In A While, But He Is So Damn Redundant. You Can Listen Just Once A Month And Not Miss Anything.

If You Catch One Of His Occasional "Rants" ABout The "Danger" The US Faces From "Radical Islam", It Can Be Quite Entertaining And Even Agitating. But Once A Month Is Plenty.

He Is Also A Little To Self-Absorbed For Fat's Taste. Too Much About Him Him Him.

He's on 1400 WOND AM here in Atlantic County. South Jersey has to be the most unlistenable terrestrial radio market in the country. Both FM and AM. I see more Sirius and XM antennas on cars down here then anywhere else in Jersey.

I listen to him on occasion. Like any radio show, you can take a few quotes and make the guy look like horrendous. Unfortunately, in his case he really does stand behind some of the worst shit he's said from time to time. I wouldn't take his views too seriously, and I hope others don't either. He's sort of a political shock jock, but he's much more than just that which is why he's so successful.

He's a very complicated guy. Picture a guy smoking a cigarette in a dark room with a microphone (Although in his case he doesn't smoke, he's too neurotic about his health) just venting all his mental illnesses into a microphone. Totally neurotic, manic-depressive, hilarious, ugly, vicious, kind, nasty, etc, etc. He goes from self obsession to hypochondria in the same sentence. One minute he's fawning over his little dog who he adores, the next he's saying the most vile things imaginable about muslims, often making no distinction between terrorists and regular folk.

In other words, he born to do radio and can be a great listen. Especially if you're sitting in traffic and pissed off.

6 - 9 pm.

I can take him in occasional small doses. But, as others here have noted, once he starts talking about his dog, or how smart he is, or his parents, or what he had for dinner last night, I'm gone.

Funny thing, he's married and never talks about his wife. I have this image of her in my mind of her just dominating him and his life.

I used to listen to him before he was syndicated. Anyone who thinks he's just like Rush Limbaugh and Hannity probably hasn't listened much, as he despises for the most part the republican party and their talking heads. He's manic, and switches topics sometimes like a machine gun, other times he will spend a whole show playing and commenting on old jazz and rock and roll songs. He is very conservative politically, but I've noticed that politics lives on a circle, and if you go far enough in either direction, you end up in the back with the loons from the other side. When I was listening to him, I was also listening to another local show by a very liberal lady. About 25 percent of the time, they were both screaming on the same side of a political issue.

I guess he spent his younger years as sort of a hippie, and he became an ethnobotanist. I think he's written something like 12 books on herbal and ethnic medicine from cultures around the world. He used to go live with tribes and study their medicine. If you hate him, you've got to give him one thing: His son invented Rockstar.

I don't agree with everything they say but I find Radio Télévision Libre des Mille Collines (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_T%C3%A9l%C3%A9vision_Libre_des_Mille_Colline s) a real hoot. Sometimes they get a bit outlandish like when they told the Hutu population to go out and slaughter their Tutsi neighbors with machetes. But it is kinda funny when they call them "cockroaches". LOL! He's one of the few people out there who speak the truth and really get me pumped up and furious about the way the liberals are ruining this country. His rages are wonderful and its how every American should feel.

His show really is the best. Just too many commercials and not on when I am in the car. Great stuff. I get the podcasts sometimes and listen to them, great intense stuff.

You are allowing a blowhard cunt to form your opinion about other Americans. You are letting him keep you in a state of panic about what "The Libs" are up to, and by doing that keeping you listening to him because "He's the only one with the answer."

Separate yourself from this guy as quickly as possible, he's just another snake oil salesman. Fuck him, and to a greater extent because they have much higher ratings, fuck Hannity and Limbaugh.

I dunno man, ever since the "Libs" took over 7 years ago this country has gone to shit in a fanny pack. Let's see, we've seen record trade deficit, record national debt, the weakest US dollar in 15 years, they've started two unjustified wars and over 4000 US soldiers have been killed in battle.

I personally can not wait until 2008 when we can finally get some Republican leadership in charge to guide this great nation of ours out of the muck and mire that the "Libs" knowingly led us into.

Hes really not like Limbaugh or Hannity at all. As I stated in my post yesterday he wants the (as he calls them) "rent a cops" who were involved in the Kerry tazer incident a couple days ago prosecuted. He lambastes Bush just about everyday, he is extremely critical of the countries military strategy, hates the big pharmaceutical companies etc, etc. Trust me if you listen to him enough he will have you in a state of panic with regards to just about every aspect of life, not just with what the libs are up to.

Awful comparison. That was an organizing tool used to commit genocide. Clinton should have bombed that shithole radio station and he could have saved thousands of lives. That's not even hindsight, and he can't claim ignorance (like he did). The NY Times ran articles day after day chronicling the genocide, how it was happening and still the US did nothing. Savage is a mental patient. I listened to some of his show the other day when I was on a long long drive, and I can't even stay with it unless I look at it as a performance piece.

If you look at it that way, it's actually kind of interesting, like he could be some actual nutcase on death row with a live mic. I can't listen for that long though. It wears me down.

Idk, I googled "ann Coulter San Fagcisco" and nothing comes up either. She has called Edwards a "FAG", but I dont think she or savage has EVER used this slur. It imho would be career suicide, and if they did get away with that, why did I have to not hear O and A for 30days???

I meant the slur not in reference to San Francisco. The three letters without anything around it. Sorry, I just hate posting things like that.

Anyway, it wasn't career suicide for her, and I don't see how it would be any different if she said it making reference to San Francisco.

Michael Weiner is back at it again....apparently Autistic kids are faking it. On July 16th he made the following statement (http://www.americablog.com/2008/07/popular-conservative-radio-host-says.html):

"Now, you want me to tell you my opinion on autism? ... A fraud, a racket."

Savage went on to say:

"Now, the illness du jour is autism. You know what autism is? I'll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it's a brat who hasn't been told to cut the act out. That's what autism is.

What do you mean they scream and they're silent? They don't have a father around to tell them, 'Don't act like a moron. You'll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don't sit there crying and screaming, idiot.'"

I couldn't be more disgusted with this prick. One of my best friend's son is autistic. I'll be sure to tell him that Michael Savage thinks he's a putz. :wallbash:

MediaMatters is the one who blew it up. So, yes, it's them.

That being said, Savage made a generalization, but there is a kernel of truth in it. As I brought up in the prior autism thread, the spectrum has been expanded so much that even if you have a touch of ADD or dyslexia, mommy slaps the puzzle piece magnet on the back of the minivan.

Seriously, there are kids out there who are really autistic. And then there are those who are just misbehaving, and the parents don't want to accept the fact that their kids aren't that well-parented.

So they are diagnosed as autistic and given an automatic excuse. And that doesn't solve the fucking problem.

Autism is real. But a majority of these cases AREN'T AUTISM.

They are behavioral problems. BIG DIFFERENCE.

I hate agreeing with Shock Jocks but the idiot has a point.

(PS - for everyone who says that "I know someone whose kid is autistic - I know three special ed teachers.)

I think you're giving Savage too much leeway. Autism may be misdiagnosed sometimes, but he said NINETY-NINE percent of the time it's not autism (actually, he diagnoses 99% of cases as them being brats), then said those 99% act like a "putz". His comments were incredibly ignorant and I don't see how anyone can take him seriously.

Just as I said I'm not going to accept hard science from Jenny McCarthy, I'm not going to accept statistical data from Savage. I didn't say he was entirely right; I said there was a kernel of truth. Was 99 percent a bit much? Yes. But it's shock jock radio, the home of hyperbole.

The point was, and is, that a large majority of kids diagnosed with "autism" are just wide-spectrum diagnoses for behavioral problems because of the expansion of what autism is.

I'm not taking Savage "seriously". What I'm saying is, he's being crucified for exposing a dirty little truth that mommy and daddy don't want to admit.

The seriously comment wasn't directed at you, sorry for that confusion.

No, he's not.

He's not being crucified or he didn't expose a truth that parents don't want to admit?

I may have spoken too soon - it seems this story is dying out; I thought it may have had legs like the Imus thing.

So... does anybody listen to this guy? If so, why?

Occasionally I will turn on the Savage Nation if I have a long day at work and the drive home leaves me little option of listening choices. Never has a last name been more applicable. First off, he's brilliant. He has enough letters behind his name to justify many of his positions but what I really enjoy is his utter disdain for both Republicans and Democrats. A man that could be and most likely was so accomplished is now irritating millions on the radio----its great and troubling at the same time. I truly believe Michael Savage hates everyone equally. It makes for entertaining radio but his gimmick is somewhat tiresome after 10-15 minutes of listening. That being said, it is fun to listen to because I have never heard him agree with a caller. If you get a chance, check it out----its worth a listen.

Certified special ed. teacher checking in. I work with Autistic kids with severe behavioral disorders who are on the severe end of the spectrum. For "fun" I teach adults with social skills problems or who are high end Aspbergers Syndrome clients. There is a huge difference between these two groups and kids who have behavioral disorders. I think because the umbrella for Autism is so huge right now, any smart ass kid who is mouthing off, but has poor social skills gets slapped with the autism label. If Michael Savage approached an autisic child and said these things, he'd be met with a blank stare and a question about...dinosaurs, star wars, sesame street characters, socks, etc. Something highly generalized that this child for some reason is fixated on. If Michael Savage approached a behaviorally challenged, low social skills yet academically/developmentally functioning child who is "acting up", he'd probably be told to "fuck off man". However, I do give him points for being a shock jock and getting people talking about a problem that is growing by LEAPS and BOUNDS and there isn't a simple medical explanation. Is it vaccinations? (both my kids are fully vaccinated), Is it hormones in meat and other products ? Is it great medical science that is keeping kids alive at an earlier gestational age? Is it the meds mom or dad are taking prior to or during/after conception? I myself took meds all during both pregnancies and worried the entire time, until they were old enough to smile, meet my gaze etc. So far, neither of them has said fuck off, so I think I might be safe! Or...is it something we haven't even begun to think about yet....global warming, spending time in front of the computer, carcinogens in the environment?
THIS MY FRIENDS IS A MORAL CONUNDRUM....!
