View Full Version : What I hate most about moving....

Hey guys,
So I just moved to the Carolina Coast about a week ago. I moved to an incredibly beautiful town, with the beach only 3 miles from my front door. It was balls hot when I had to move, but I got everything in my house and it's starting to feel like my home now even though there are still boxes and such abound...
Anyhow, what I really, really hate about moving is not knowing a fucking soul in town. I have 2 friends here who are married, but they can't seem to pry themselves away from their wives, so I'm left watching tv (which wouldn't be bad if this was football season).
I'm also not yet in a situation to meet people b/c I don't start work for another 2 weeks, and with my job, I work in an office with 6 people and that's it.
Normally, when I moved I could meet people in my apartment, or at school, etc, but now it seems like that hill is a little steeper to climb. I do belong to a gym, but that seems like not the best place to meet people.
This post is mainly to bitch...you spend all fucking day working on your house, and you want to go out and get a beer and talk to someone, but you can't, and it just gets to you after awhile...
Thanks for listening...

I hear bathhouses have friendly people.

You're near the beach. Go to a bar! Find one with pool tables and just put your quarters on the table.

Man, Yes You CAN Go Out And Get A Beer And Talk To Someone...That Is What Bars Are For! Seriously, F_S Has Travelled Alot On Business And Often Has To Go Out Alone When Travelling. Even If You Just End Up At A Hotel Bar, You Will ALWAYS Find Someone To Talk To.
Guys Who Travel And Salesmen Types Get Used To This And Get Good At This. For The Average Joe, It May Be Tough To Walk Into A Place Alone, And Then Get Up Enough Nerve To Strike Up A Conversation, But Everyone Loves To Talk, SO Just Bite The Bullet And Go Out!
Also, If You Were 300 Feet From The Beach Instead Of 3 Miles, You Would Never Lack For Companionship. People Would Be Calling You To Visit Every Day...Starting With F_S !

as much as people put down the south, one thing you'll never have to worry about is meeting people. everywhere you go, someone will try to strike up a conversation.
that said, i do miss quiet elevator rides

thanks guys,
I'm not a salesman, but I should just sack up and go out and talk to people...the only problem I have with going out by myself is putting off the image of "problem drinker"...when really, I resort to drugs...not alcohol...

when you say 'quarters' do you mean 'balls'?
I would suggest going out and having a beer or dinner but don't get too friendly with anyone. Just to loosen yourself up a bit...

Wait for the weekend. All the college kids will hit the beach and there will be more ass than you can shake a stick at.

I agree. When I was single, moving would be a great opportunity to get rid of a lot of junk. But my wife keeps everything. Everytime we've moved, I've had to lug her books, including notebooks from college that she just can't get rid off.

Ask one of your buddies to set you up on a blind date with one of the wives single friends.

I've been transferred for work 7 times since 1989. Always hard at first, especially when single. Try going to a decent restaurant, sit at the bar, grab some food and chat up the bartender. It may take a couple of places but you'll meet a good bartender that will introduce you around to the staff, customers, etc., and it will just grow from there.

Best mental image of the day. That and Chocolate Rain are firmly embedded. Thank you.
As for Chainsaw, best just to sack up and get out there. Go light on the booze tho.
