I was listening to Louis CK on O&A yesterday for a short time, and I realized that I'm not sure I like his comedy or not.

I noticed there was a nasty edge to his comedy, that his complaining about his wife and his kids and how he doesn't like being a father.

To me, that's not funny, that's kind of depressing. Was I just catching him on a bad day or does this make up a majority of his act?

His act is more about not liking being married than being a father. He loves his kids and he and his wife get along great when they are being parents and watching and laughing with thier kids. But he still feels he's stuck with this woman as long as they still have kids.

I think he's hilarious... because, as in all comedy, there is a little truth, and he sounds like all my married friends whose wives turn into someone else after they get married.

Saw one or two episodes of Luckie Louie and was kinda ehh (don't like the sitcom format) but his stand up I liked, laid back and sufficiently angry. I liked his wife and kids angle too.

He used to be kinda out of place on O&A compared to like buill burr, but lately he's figured out when to talk and flows better. Also check out the saturday night virus show he did by his lonesome. Funny, not over the top funny but he held great convo's with the callers.

QFT, he has pretty much exactly said that. In his second dog video on youtube you hear his wife talking to him and when I first heard it they sounded like a normal nice family to me. Then again it was very short and I may be making an ass out of you and me.

Louis CK is awesome. He used to be on Conan all the time, and always fucking killed. And he used to have a section on his website that was called "Bad Jokes" or something like that. They were seriously bad jokes. Like, not distasteful, just unfunny. Which made it extremely funny.

And his standup kills. And his SNV show was awesome, too.

that exactly sums it up for me. i think he is fucking hysterical on O&A, but his HBO special did not WOW me at all.

I dont know if I have ever heard of anyone not enjoying Bill Burr on the show. There really isnt a 3rd/4th mic on the show I dont like, except Ralphie May if that counts.

Louis CK is great. If i had to nitpick, I'd say that he uses "cunt" to the point that it sounds like a verbal crutch. But, his last appearance was great all the way through. I think he's getting better at being on the show.

I agree. If your life is so shitty and you hate your wife, leave. His excuse is because of the kids. Well, if you are miserable, the kids pick up on that and that is more damaging, seeing your parents bitch at each other all the time.

I agree. I didn't think Lucky Louie was bad, but I had no interest in watching it. I really liked his Saturday Night Virus show, though at times he does have verbal crutches as was noted above.

Personally, I love him. I think that if you are married with kids, his stories really resonate in a really twisted way. If not, it probably just sounds like bitching. The guys stand up special almost made me puke from laughing.

I havent read one post in this thread but I can't understand how anyone doesn't bow before this man's greatness. I saw him at the Virus Tour at Jones Beach and he easily stole the show. His HBO special is genius. Every appearance on O&A is masterful. Louis CK is the best.

I liked Lucky Louie but I do see wh HBO cancelled it. It did not seem like it fit into their typical show format -- all of their shows have that same look.

Louie's stand-up is the best. I can understand saying things like that about your family while really loving them at the same time. It's great humor.

when you started this thread he was in the process of separation already and it was just not public, so his complaining about the wife was probably just a way to vent. Still hilarious to me. He sounds like an awesome father to me, he drives his kids around to all kinds of activities and school and the bitching part about it is hilarious to me, cause while we all love the kids, we hate the chores associated at the same time yet take them silently.

His stories are funny, but WAY over the top, for instance the flight story, where he said the captian told them someone looked into the tanks to confirm they were full. Would never happen, and if it did they would not have told the passengers, if it did.
