View Full Version : Where The Hell Do I Buy Propane?
Doctor Z

I bought a small propane grill the other day for my terrace (which I'm pretty sure is illegal?)... end of season sale. ANYHOW, I'm in The Bronx, and I've never owned a grill before. Where the fuck do I buy propane?! I have the tank, and figured I could get it filled pretty easily, but after learning that I was horribly wrong with that assumption, I have no clue where to look.

Home and garden centers always have them. Not sure where in the city you can get it filled though.
I'd say just leave the area to fill it but I think it's illegal to take a propane container over the bridge and I know it's not allowed in tunnels.
Now you know why it was so cheap. Wacka Wacka.

In Jersey, Gas Stations Are Often Equipped To Fill Propane Tanks. There Will Usually Be A Sign Outside That Says (Oddly Enough) "PROPANE".
Also, The Mom And Pop Hardware Stores Often Do It.

i picked up a little weber tabletop grill for the patio/deck. the gas/propane tanks which are much smaller than the average outdoor grill tank can be purchased at Sears
thing works great!

A little out of the way, but I'm pretty sure that P.C. Richards on 86th Street on the upper east side of Manhattan sells propane.

My local gas station sells propane. Then again, Jersey rules.

They would if they let me pump my own gas. Fucking lines on the turnpike for gas! The lines would move so much more quickly if they didn't have one guy per island pumping gas, taking payments, and making change.
It's simple:
1. drive up
2. insert credit card
3. pump gas
4. drive off

or sit in the car with the AC on and let someone else do it.
plus it's cheaper than NY, so just think that by sitting in line you are saving money!

Where about in the Bronx and do you have a car to get to a place?
I moved from the Bronx 2 years ago and my place I used is closed, it was a out of the was gas station that was actually in yonkers, but I can probaly find something.
Most places will probably do a tank exchnange rather than deal with refilling.
Look for a blue and white sign that says Propane filling station. or Propane sold here. More places seem to do exchanges now. I prefer filling especially when I have new tank.
Some welding places will fill them.

yeah mark me down as another one in jersey that knows of some at gas stations.
but the one i go to is even closer than those.
there's this ice cream place where the dude actually lives in the building connected and next to that is a propane tank that he actually runs too.
so going down the street its all in a row, Ice Cream Place connected to house with huge propane tank in side yard.

If there's a Lowes around you drive up, drop off your empty tank in front of the propane display out front, go in, pay for a new one, and they put it in your car. Otherwise, lots of gas stations have signs out front that they have propane. In that case they will refill your tank instead of changing it out.

Drp your zip in here for exchange locations. Most for you would be in Yonkers on the area of the cross county mall.

Blue Rhino is the way to go. (no waiting to fill and hours are usually better to get a full tank). Cross county is pretty close too. I remember shopping there when I lived in the Bronx.
