For so long, I was under the impression that Starbucks sucked and was overpriced, and I kept going to Dunkin Donuts and getting shitty coffee and shitty service. DD would continuously fuck up my order, but it didn't matter, I kept going.

My wife, who likes good coffee, hates Dunkin Donuts. So she always goes to Starbucks and had me try a Peppermint Mocha once. I've been hooked since. I like everything I try there. And the help is always so fucking friendly and helpful. And their snacks are great.

I never thought I'd ever say it, but I love Starbucks.

My dads wife grew up in New England and LOVES dunkin doughnuts. We don't really have many out here so anytime I'm back east I have to pick her up a a bag or two of their coffee. I've never really understood the draw to it. Tastes just like coffee to me.

I love coffee, but I'm not all that picky about it. I'm fairly content with the Maxwell House that comes out of my $15 Mr. Coffee. Starbucks' coffee has actually always tasted a little too bitter for my liking, but I haven't tried anything there other than regular coffee or the occasional mocha cappuccino.

I saw a sign at McDonald's advertising their new iced coffee, and "coffee" was misspelled. I actually think the idea of iced coffee is more offensive to me than their inability to spell.

i was no fan of starbucks or even coffee before i started working there. now i'm completely addicted to caffeine and have become just as bitter as our coffee.
it's been three years. don't even try to tell me about vanilla lattes. it's all about the caramel macchiato. but really, the basis of most of our drinks are the same.
what's most annoying to starbucks employees, though, is when people make fun of the "fancy" drink names, and then order 12 of them. "yeah, we all want large caramel... mochachinolattefrapps...haha!" and because we're so damn nice to you all, we just smile and laugh along with you like we've never fucking heard it before.
if you hate starbucks, then don't come in and order drinks that i end up making you.

I like the smoky or slightly burnt flavor that Starbucks has. It is similar to the stronger coffees that are served in Europe. I like a good French roast. Goes great with a cigarette, too.

I used to work in an office where a moron refused brew coffee that was more than child-strength. I really wanted to punch him in the face. I would just dump out his coffee and make the next pot extra strong to piss him off.

I never get coffee at Starbuck's; it's too damn confusing for me. There's always like three different ones to choose from. I'll drink the hell out of their mochas, though.

A while back, I was of the mind that I should "think global and act local" and support the local coffee shops. You go to one of these northern CA local coffee shops and there's a gaggle of neo-punks blocking the sidewalk with their guitar case and bidi smoke, then you go in and the bitch behind the counter treats you like shit because your over the age of 20. So you get your cup of coffee and a look full of piss from the other cutter and her Che t-shirt, and the warm half and half has to strain through a day-old cake of dessicated cheesejizz because they haven't washed the pitcher in days. Now your coffee smells like you stirred it with the udder of a dairy goat from that horsefucker farm in Washington, which is like roses compared to the odor of flaxseed/quinoa farts and rancid patchoulli colouring the air around the frowning, aged hippies and their counter-culture iMacs as they plot the next revolution. No more.

Thank you, Nancy Drew. I am a former Assistant Store Manager of a sbux and have worked at three of them. My favorite thing was the nights out drinking with coworkers especially those from other stores swapping war stories. There is a disgruntled barista blog or message board out there somewhere. I keep trying to find it. We had the trippio conversation in my store too and people just like to order it 'cause they think it makes them sound like they're getting something more elaborate than they are.

I'm still a fan of iced caramel macchiatos or iced vanilla soy lattes, but I find that at Dunking (which I do drink more than sbux these days) my coffee is often burnt and that really pisses me off cause it ruins my whole morning.

Chigworthy: excellent rant.

Also awake is an English breakfast tea. Its closest thing you'll get to a liptons. most of the employees there will actually explain things to you and won't be douches. Its just the dummies who like to bust balls or can't break from the script for two seconds to help you out if you're a newbie and help you order.

If Starbucks had a better assortment of cold beverages, I might be inclined to go there. All I want is a mega-sized freshly brewed unsweetened ice tea that I don't have to pay 800 dollars for.

I mean, tons of other places have this.

I like Mocha Frappachinos, but they are ridiculously bad for you. What do they put in them that makes them so bad? Coffee has no calories. Neither does ice. The amount of milk and hershey's syrup can't equate to 450 calories, can it?

bitter barista here. we actually do have regular iced tea. and it costs about 2 bucks for a venti/large. its just an iced black tea. they ask you if you want it sweetened, you say no. and we brew it about 2039548383 times a day so it is def fresh.
we also have iced green tea, iced white tea, and iced passion tea (which has no caffeine). they can all come plain, sweetened, or mixed w/lemonade, and are pretty cheap and good. i highly recommend them.

as for frappucinos, the worst part for you is the whipped cream. you can significantly cut down on calories and fat by simply asking for no whip.

You can learn a lot more from listening than you can from talking. Find someone with whom you don't agree in the slightest and ask them to explain themselves at length. Then take a seat, shut your mouth, and don't argue back. It's physically impossible to listen with your mouth open.

ICED pepperment mocha WITH WHIP??? haha gross, i hate whipped cream on iced drinks anyway. its like drinking a glass of milk w/whipped cream on top; weird and unnatural.
part of what makes the whip on frappucinos so bad for you is the amount that goes on (same w/your iced pepperment mocha)--it's the damn dome lids, they get completely filled up to the top with a mountain of whip. as for a hot peppermint mocha, whip isn't going to be as horrendously bad b/c its just a little bit that goes on top. you can always get skim or 1% milk in your drink instead of whole milk too.

Childhood is a strange country. It's a place you come from or go to- at least in your mind. For me it has an endless, spellbound something in it that feels remote. It's like a little sealed vault country of cake breath and grass stains where what you do instead of work is spin until you're dizzy.

Holy crap, I didn't know they have Lite Mocha Frappuchino. And only 140 calories for a medium?

...this changes everything.

The lite coffee frap tastes like ass compared to the original. Don't know if the same holds true for the mocha. You should try it and report back.

I love Starbucks, the Starbucks that is inside the Barnes & Noble Bookstore I go to. What's the large called, Veti Vedi or something. Caffeine and books. It's good enough coffee. But it's the only time I go to Starbucks, because yes I do believe in supporting a local coffee house. I did however have to laugh at Chigworthy's description of independent coffee houses on the previous page. There is one local coffee house that fit his description to a T, and it is more expensive than Starbucks.

Oh, I already ask for no-whip. But is it pre-sweetened?

is what pre-sweetened?
the whipped cream is made out of heavy whipping cream and vanilla syrup aka sugar.

the mocha frappucino itself is made up of frappucino coffee base which is like coffee w/milk and sugar in it. then comes one pump of mocha syrup which we make out of hot water and chocolate powder--a lot like swiss miss, only more on the level of when you're six years old and purposely add extra powder and not enough water so it ends up as thick syrup instead of liquid. then comes the ice and it all goes in the blender.
we also have a light version of any frappucino that includes skim milk and splenda in the base, instead of whole milk and sugar, and doesn't come w/whip.

so true. the flavored light frappucinos (like mocha or caramel or white mocha or...the list goes on and on) are better than the plain coffee light frappucino.

Love the white chocalate and peppermint mochas. Still look and feel like an idiot when I try to speak the language. The Starbuckees on Long Island understand but the ones in the city seem frustrated when I order.

Actually its my second in under a week. I figured the last time I did one the thread got locked so noone would notice if I used it again. Maybe I'll do one everyday and it can be my cedar post.

not to be an asshole know-it-all, but -- well actually, yeah. I am being an asshole know-it-all. the caramel macchiato is my favorite drink also, but it's actually not the most fattening--thank god. it's about the same as drinking a vanilla latte, which isn't that bad for you, especially if you get it w/skim milk. a grande/medium caramel macchiato has 3 pumps of vanilla syrup (which also is available in sugar-free), milk and foam of your choice (reg/whole, soy, skim, 1%, 2%), 2 shots of espresso, and caramel sauce on top (which you can specify light or extra if you feel like it). i highly recommend trying it w/soy milk
