So, all you now need is money to get whatever stamp of approval needed for your product. Funny how only half the toothpaste brands have the seal but now gum gets the thumbs up as soon as it lays down money. And do you think this is all the money that changed hands?? Doubt it. The same shit happens with the AHA with food products and more. Now I know this shit has always been around, but has it ever been this overt??

Hey doc...help a brother out!
I was told today that I need a root canal (with a post and a crown) and that it's gonna cost $2,600!!! Is that really the going rate these days?

That wouldn't surprise me a bit. I had a similar procedure a couple of years ago, and that was about the cost before my add-on dental coverage knocked off about $1400.
I'm currently on COBRA extending the benefits of my previous employer, where we had no dental coverage. It doesn't kick in with my new employer until January.
Can I add Dental onto my COBRA or would this fall under "pre-existing conditions" and not be covered?

I think you live in the area where my dentist is. His name is Dr Horowitz and his office is in Colonia and called the Colonia Dental Group off of Chain'O Hills road. The guy is excellent! I still travel from Jackson to Colonia because I have not found anyone better.
Just in case you might want a 2nd opinion. I had a post and crown approx 2 years ago and I certainly don't remember it being 2,000 or above.
I'm telling you the guy is the best... imho

Root canal is usually on a molar. Therefore you need 4 canals drilled and cleaned. Then you need to go back for the post, and a fitting for the crown. Probably porcelin.
That price is pretty close to market standard.
So i've heard.

Price is very realistic. Sorry I got kids to put through college.
Seriously though Dentistry is very "rate/fee competitve" by area dentist will almost have colusion to keep fees competitve with each other
Thanks a lot for the input my man. I had a root canal about 10 years ago and the price was much lower. I guess inflation hits ALL industries eh?

Think about what a car cost 10 years ago. Infection control and Staff costs, health insurance kill us too. Fucking insurance companies are killing the dental profession too but im not getting on that soap box here nobodywill or should feel sorry for us.
Ignore your teeth and they will go away:smile:

For the record.
One root canal was enough for me to learn my lesson.
Buy an Oral B electric. And a waterpic.
Use Listerine after every brushing, and as annoying as it is, you have to try and floss.
A couple hundred bucks in home care can save you thousands with the likes of Drjoe, and his ilk!!

My dentist told me the way they make their money is with root canals. That frightened me.

I don't see a real problem here. Sure they paid a bunch of money, but I'm pretty sure all companies do. Sugar free gum is definitely good for your teeth. Every dentist I've ever had said I should chew it.
I keep a can like this in my car at all times, and chew at least one or two times a day.

Chewing gum is a dirty filthy habit. Nothing worse than someone gnawing away like a farm animal except listening to the obnoxious sounds of chewing and popping. And let's not forget about those wonderful people at the gym that think a treadmill is a gum storage device.
Seriously there are no longer any unbiased organizations AARP is a hack for insurance companies, the Heart Associaton sells itself out to multi-national food conglomerates, The AMA allows itself to be used by big pharma...
