Is it or is it not ok to wear a shirt or sweater of a team from one sport but also wear a hat of a another team from another sport at the same time? For example, I wore my Mets hat this morning but also wore a Sabres sweater. Can you get away with that?

Personally I'd say no.
You look confused.
Some schools of thought might say you shouldn't even wear 2 items for the same team but I'm not sure I agree w/ that.

I vote that is acceptable, but only at this time of the year. You are making the transition from one team's season to another's so you should be a little confused, it's a hard time for everyone. Very bittersweet.

no you can't. one team's apparel per body.
i might be ok to have a sports team and say a university sweater or such, but not two professional teams.

How about this scenario ?
A team hat/shirt with a hat/shirt of the conference/league that team is in ?
I've done that before with wearing a Vandy hat and an SEC t-shirt.
It was when playing softball though and not being worn casually.

I do it all the time. I always wear a hat and its usually one of my mets hats. I am currently wearing a mets hat and a Ryan miller nhl all star t shirt. As long as its not two teams in the same sport I think its fine.

Time to ditch the Met hat.

I vote yes, this is acceptable, but the colors should differentiate enough but the entire ensemble should still match.
For example:
White Yankee shirt/Jersey with Blue Rangers Hat
Jets Jersey/Yankee Hat
BAD:
Jets Jersey/Red Rutgers hat
Jets Jersey/Blue Mets hat (but black Mets hat acceptable)

Two teams are acceptable if they are of different color yet still match. However, such an outfit should only be worn if you're going to the actual game or a party with other fans or sportsbar.
Exception: If there's no offsetting colors that don't fit your style, same-color hats are acceptable but they have to be low-key.

I would like to take a moment to nominate this thread for 2007's "Gayest Sports Themed Thread of the Year".
Now back to the fashion related sports gayness.

Another rule: If you're going to the two-team rule, the headwear must be low-key and not look "weird" on you. (read: Urban or only looks good on black people)
Example:

All right. I'll finally write down all the unwritten sports rules:
1) Do not, any under circumstances, customize a professional team jersey for yourself with your own name and number.
This is ONLY acceptable under the following conditions:
- You are a girl.
- You're a child.
- You're actually going to play a sport in this jersey.
2) You are not allowed to cheer for more than one team per sport.
Exceptions:
- College football - you attended more than one school and the schools do not play in the same conference. If the two schools play against each other, you must root for the team you got your degree from. There are also family and marriage considerations.
- Your all-time favorite player has left the team after a long career with them, and will not play against your team. (see: Nomar Garciaparra.)
3) If the player of a jersey you own leaves the team to play for another, you should not wear that jersey again. Example: a Randy Moss Vikings or Raiders jersey. Buy another jersey. However, if the player retires as a member of that team, it's acceptable to wear the jersey. (Example: Joe Montana)
4) If the team has a major update or change of the jersey and logos, you have a one-season grace period to update your jersey.
5) It is ok to wear an opposing team at the home team stadium, but be respectful to your other fans.

Alternate jerseys are acceptable if the team actually wears them and fan reaction is positive, and it's something white people can get away with wearing. For example: The Jets Black-and-Green jersey is awful, but the Titans throwback is good.
For some reason, fans bought up the Eagles throwbacks this year, like crazy.

Tenbats those rules seemed pretty much on target in my opinion.
What about getting names but on jerseys of teams that don't ever put their names on the jerseys ?
Like any jackass Yankee fan w/ a jersey and somebody's name or a Notre Dame jersey ( shouldn't be too many of those anymore ) w/ a name.

Oh that reminds me:
Under no circumstances should Yankees, Cubs, etc. jerseys - Jerseys that do not have names on the back of them - have "replicas" with the names on the back. GET THE REAL JERSEY.

C'mon, you're not a fan of the Babe Ruth jersey with his name

Oh, another thing:
If you get a jersey customized with a player name/number, it should be on a version of the jersey that the player played on.
For example: Putting Klecko's name/number on a current Jets jersey.

I'm willing to give special dispensation for that, but if you've got 100 bucks to drop on a replica, you've got 175 to drop on an authentic, considering how RIDICULOUSLY BAD the replicas look.

This is why I fucking hates sports.
If you do something another fan doesn't think is cool they may actually walk up to you and tell you or worse yet, heckel you for it.
No one cares.

Do you honestly think if a fan is violating the "rules" I just set up that I'd heckle them and/or make them feel bad about it?
No. They look like douches, and I'll voice my opinion here, but I'm not going to go after them about it.
And as for "no one caring" - poll the entire Yankee fanbase on this board - ask them if the replica Yankee jersey looks good?

Ill do it when I havent combed my hair and am wearing my Islanders Jersey, the old school one of course. That is in conjunction with my Mets hat, with the NY logo. It passes upon a quick pass through, but I dont wait around long enough for scrutiny.

Is it acceptable to wear this:

...if you're a Rangers fan?
Mitigating factor: Wayne is the best hockey player of all time, everyone liked him, the Oilers do not play the Rangers that much, Wayne played for and retired on the Rangers, but his best years were with the Oilers.
