In the past year or so we've gotten two Marriott hotels here in town (Courtyard and Fairfield Inn). Marriott hotels are completely smoke free. I've noticed when delivering to these two places, I get terrible tips. Sometimes no tip at all.
Tonight, I mentioned this to my co-workers. I told them that I think smokers are better tippers. This Bulgarian woman who works with me, immediately responded "Smokers are better PEOPLE". When I thought about that, I realized that I can usually tell, when I meet someone who is snooty or asshole-ish, chances are they are a non-smoker.
What do you think? Are smokers better people?

I voted no diff, but non-smokers sure smell better.
I can tell you that as a non-smoker, I tip much better than my smoker friends.

Exactly my thoughts.
I think what you're experienced is a twofold effect. First is the socioeconomic factor. Most of the people I know who have money, are extremely tight with there money and don't truly value the work of the service industry. I fight them all the time on this and to be honest it pisses me off. And that brings me to the second factor in that most smokers are blue collar peeps (at least in my world). They are usually in the very type fields that require pay by tip and value the effort of those that do similar, hard work.
Just my thoughts.

That's quite a post.
It sucks. Bad grammar, misspellings, incongruous thought. Stop it.:nono:

I don't smoke and I'm a great tipper but I think that has to do mostly with being in the service industry.
I think a lot of smokers are great people but I definitely would it judge it by that.
I know a lot of non- smokers that tip way better than people who smoke (my fiancee being one of them).
It's easy to say that smokers might be less stressed cause they smoke to relieve the stress, but smoking causes more stress than not.
I've encountered some smoke reeking stingy ass people at my bar. I mean people who had 2 dollars change given to them after bying a drink, them leaving it at the bar for 15 minutes and then complaining that I took it thinking he was giving me a tip.
Eh, it goes both ways.
So I picked it doesn't make a difference. (in case you couldn't tell what I picked)

I was a better person when I smoked. But I don't think it affected my tipping either way.

Keep in mind... This isn't just about tipping. By "better people" I mean, "are smokers generally nicer people people?" (ie: treat others well)

This is an interesting post. It answers the question "would you rather have a shorter life, but be a better person with your time, or live a longer life, but be a worse person".
Fezticle has chosen to live longer but be a worse person which, if you ask me, is selfish, making the rest of us put up with a worse person for a longer amount of time. That's no bargain for society, my friend.
Someone pass my man a square.

I really don't think you can make a judgment call of the entire population of smokers vs. non smokers.

I voted no difference. There's a bunch of factors that play a role in making people either nice or assholes.

I was happier when I smoked. I'm grumpy now, so I don't tip for shit (j/k)
On the plus side, I can breathe better, I smell better, and my teeth are not stained.
Smoking in and of itself is a rude act. If someone went around farting all the time and stinking up everywhere they'd be looked upon as a fucking asshole. Somehow smokers get away with it/

There are no sin taxes on farting.

i used to smoke and i think i'm a better person now. and able to hang out with people who do both. i hated having to leave a party and go outside to smoke because they didn't want it in their house. and the constant need for it.
i think i'm a much more independent person now that i don't smoke. In turn, that make me nicer. :)
