Fuck Bon Jovi, the new fucking Prudential Center arena and Corey Booker. They're all part of why I fucking hate this godforsaken city.
Today, I hate Newark because my company parking lot was forced to close due to City of Newark utility and street work on the main entry road to the lot.
Was this construction announced? Sort of. They've been working on street improvements since July or August (I honestly don't know which) which relate to the arena construction and the improvements needed to make the walk from Newark-Penn safer.
But, the way the improvements happen is . . . illogical. See, they started by ripping up the street that's nearest our parking lot. They've closed it several times before and, it being a one-way street, I've had to be. . .creative. . . to get to the lot. (For example, usually they close the top end of the street, nearest Broad Street, but leave the bottom end, near Mulberry, open. If that's the case, you can make a right onto the street from Mulberry and swing into the parking lot while driving towards Broad on this one-way street that points towards Mulberry.)
Today, however, the short "alleyway" street (also one-way) was open. BUT, both the top and bottom ends of the parking lot's street were closed. They wouldn't let anyone pull into the parking lot and they didn't have an ETA on when they'd be finished with the construction.
I had several alternatives, all but one of which (going home) involved paying for parking.
I cannot afford to pay for parking; this is why I used to take the train to work.
HOWEVER, had I known on Friday that the lot would be closed, I would have arranged to take the train and I wouldn't be in this situation.
But, the City of Newark, in its infinite wisdom, didn't see fit to alert any of the tenants who might be affected by today's specific street closures. So, of course I couldn't have planned ahead. . .which bothers me a great deal. I hate the closures, but they ordinarily don't affect me so drastically that I decide my only alternative is to go home.
Today, I had no patience. I'd just driven an hour and it was 7:30 in the morning. I hate my job and I hate it even more when I have to change my routine. Paying for parking was not an option; I don't carry cash, I spent a lot of money this weekend, the bank was closed and I wasn't about to give my credit card to a Newark parking attendant.
And if my manager lectures me about it tomorrow, I can invite her to pay for my parking expenses in the future. :furious:
