Fuck Bon Jovi, the new fucking Prudential Center arena and Corey Booker. They're all part of why I fucking hate this godforsaken city.

Today, I hate Newark because my company parking lot was forced to close due to City of Newark utility and street work on the main entry road to the lot.

Was this construction announced? Sort of. They've been working on street improvements since July or August (I honestly don't know which) which relate to the arena construction and the improvements needed to make the walk from Newark-Penn safer.

But, the way the improvements happen is . . . illogical. See, they started by ripping up the street that's nearest our parking lot. They've closed it several times before and, it being a one-way street, I've had to be. . .creative. . . to get to the lot. (For example, usually they close the top end of the street, nearest Broad Street, but leave the bottom end, near Mulberry, open. If that's the case, you can make a right onto the street from Mulberry and swing into the parking lot while driving towards Broad on this one-way street that points towards Mulberry.)

Today, however, the short "alleyway" street (also one-way) was open. BUT, both the top and bottom ends of the parking lot's street were closed. They wouldn't let anyone pull into the parking lot and they didn't have an ETA on when they'd be finished with the construction.

I had several alternatives, all but one of which (going home) involved paying for parking.

I cannot afford to pay for parking; this is why I used to take the train to work.
HOWEVER, had I known on Friday that the lot would be closed, I would have arranged to take the train and I wouldn't be in this situation.

But, the City of Newark, in its infinite wisdom, didn't see fit to alert any of the tenants who might be affected by today's specific street closures. So, of course I couldn't have planned ahead. . .which bothers me a great deal. I hate the closures, but they ordinarily don't affect me so drastically that I decide my only alternative is to go home.

Today, I had no patience. I'd just driven an hour and it was 7:30 in the morning. I hate my job and I hate it even more when I have to change my routine. Paying for parking was not an option; I don't carry cash, I spent a lot of money this weekend, the bank was closed and I wasn't about to give my credit card to a Newark parking attendant.

And if my manager lectures me about it tomorrow, I can invite her to pay for my parking expenses in the future. :furious:

its a government job, what did you expect.

i have sympathy, though.
i live next to newark and work in it as well (sort of).

it was probably a no-bid job, so i would rely on the train for some time.

I expect fair warning. . . but that would probably make too much sense.

I fucking hate taking the train; it means I have to work on Matty's schedule because there's no train station in walking distance.

Bon Jovi is still on my fecal roster.
But, today, Corey Booker is #1.

Wait, what? You have a car. Drive yourself to the station. There's still plenty of parking the time of day you get there.

I work as a limo driver part time and the approach to the airport is soooo miserable! It's like dumps and stink, then the jail, then the Bud factory and then the terminals. Gross.

Downtown and the PAC is nice but if you go to an event there, the cops make you feel like if you don't follow the path that they've cleared for you, the natives will be using your bones in soup. They are standing on rt 21 to make sure that your tax-paying ass doesn't wind up making a wrong turn. Then you park in the garage (military park) and as soon as you walk out of the garage the cops are there to walk you into prudential hall.

Love,

Newark is one of those place I know exist but only go there when I am forced to. I don't care how much money they dump into that place, it's not going to attract me down there.

What are these "cops" of which you speak?
What is this "escort"?
And why should I PAY for parking when I have the company lot where I get to park FOR FREE?

(BTW, I work across the street from the Prudential "white elephant", 3 blocks from NJPAC and 2 blocks from The Rock, so I am right near where you're talking about.)

But it's not free.

Parking at that station is what, two or three dollars? Plus you save on gas. It's basically a wash against gas + tolls.

You can't expense anything anymore.

Unless, of course, it was paid for with a company credit card. (And I don't qualify for one.)

I don't know how much parking at Jersey Avenue is.

It's more at Princeton Jct. but PJ is usually full by the time I get there.

You do realize that Princeton Junction is like 2x the distance from us than Jersey Ave?

And check your text messages, please.

Hey man, take it easy.
I'm not the one who pissed on your corn flakes this morning!
I said the cops were there during events at the PAC. (I have no idea what goes on in that jungle from 9-5 on a monday! -and I'm happy about that.):surrender:

This is exactly why I won't work in Newark, I'm getting a migraine just reading this thread.
