Do you smoke? In the age of higher priced cigarettes along with the fewer places that you can smoke, do you partake? Where i work, there isn't many and they've decided to go smokeless, meaning that if you are caught smoking while at work anywhere you will be written up. Also the local government banned smoking in parks, outside hospitals, and others i can't remember right now. Everywhere you go, they have different rules.

I smoke a nice cigar on occasion, but I dont consider myself a smoker.
I havent smoked a cigarette since I was 14 trying to be cool, and, interestingly enough, smoking Kools.

Twice, both times cigars and I didn't really care for them.

I can't vote with the current choices. I smoke, but I hate Marlboro's. Since I was 20, the longest I've gone without was the first 7 weeks of Navy boot camp in 1988, the month in one jail, and the 15 days in another jail.

I managed to quit the Navy, and I managed to quit going to jail. Now I just need to quit smoking Camels.

I first smoked weed about 7 years before I ever smoked a cigarette. First time I smoked one, I tried to hold the smoke in.

That's nuttin' Buzzy. Before jails banned smoking, I spent 4 days in one where they rationed the smokes. We'd save the butts, empty the tobacco, and roll new cigs with pages from the Bible.

i know. you can't smoke in any office here. i took the post to mean if they found you smoking on work time you'd get in trouble. they really can't tell you what to do when you take a break and go outside.

They can if you're still on their property. Until about a year ago, the pasta plant here had a policy of no smoking on their property. When you went on break, you had to go about 150 yards, to the edge of the parking lot to smoke. They now have a smoking area outside the break room. I guess people were coming back from their breaks late, because of all the travel time involved in smoking a cig during a 10 or 15 minute break.

i totally get that as well, but again the original post made it sound (to me) like if they caught you smoking even off their property you'd get in trouble. maybe i just read it a little too literally.

You might have accidentally put "or" in between "work" and "anywhere". Easy mistake to make.

There are some jobs that can legally get away with banning smoking in your personal life, though. That may be restricted to government jobs, though. Our local police department enacted a "no smokers" policy back in the late 80's (current employees were grandfathered). I don't know if that has held up, or not.

i didn't add words. he said "while at work" not "on work property." to me, "while at work" means the whole 8-ish hours from when you start in the morning till you leave for home. you're still at work even if you go out for a break or lunch or what-not. i also didn't mean to imply you couldn't smoke after you went home in his scenario.

I guess the distinction of "at work" should be boiled down to either "on the clock" or "on work property". As for what I brought up (and I didn't mean that you did) about being a smoker at all... I think there are cases where an employer can refuse to keep you, even if you smoke in your own free time.

i can sort of see that at a job like the police force where physical fitness can be at a premium (depending on your specific task), but even there i don't think i'd fully support it. as long as you can perform your job i don't really think it's any of their business.

I'm a recovering cigarrette smoker. I'm carrying my 6 year coin right now. I say recovering because I haven't had so much as a drag in 6 years but I still dream about burning down a smooth camel light. The poll should have been set up to allow more options; I don't smoke cigarettes but I could have chosen more than one option.

I never smoked until this year. Just something I fell into. I always wanted to smoke for whatever reason and this year I decided to say fuck it and just go with it.

I limit my smoking to when I'm around other people who are smoking though. Sometimes a late night smoke is just what I need as well.

I enjoy my mentholie cancerstick goodness. The car does not work unless the cigarette is going. One on the way to work, one of the way home. I think it's quite alright. Major guilty reporting for duty while chainsmoking at social events. *shrug* DC is now non-smoking at bars, as is MD. If VA swings that way and tacks on more cigarette tax, i'll probably quit.

Smooths taste like thin mint girl scout cookies. Perfect for the kiddies.

I'm a cheap fuck so I roll my own. Not by hand, I have a little machine that stuffs the tobacco into a filtered tube. Comes out to about 10 bucks a carton. Plus, it makes me think that I am not handing my money to the filthy tobacco giants, but in reality I probably am, just indirectly.

I'm 29 now and I've been smoking since i was 17. I started out with Marlboro reds and then went to Newports for a while. I switched to Marlboro Ultra Lights about 3 years ago because they weren't as harsh on the lungs as the Newports.

I smoked weed for about as long but I haven't smoked any more for about three months now.
