as of right now... the status of the Friday-Bagels coalition is at 'undecided'....

I have a pretty bad case of laryngytis/bronchitis and Tony will be visiting his little ones until about 9pm or so tonight... Whether or not we attend will depend on what time he returns to change clothes and how I am feeling.

We also have sideline seats to the Giants game tomorrow and are going to be tailgating all afternoon in whatever weather mother nature decides to bring.... so this may also factor in!

So here's how it all went down.

I was supposed to get there early and meet Jon to make sure everything squared away. Unfortunately the hopstop directions weren't as good as I would have hoped, and I got a little lost. I did end up walking past the club without realizing it an one point. As I'm wandering, a car pulls up and I hear someone say "Mikey?". It was Sheepy, Matty and Liz, so I jumped in their car and we attempted to find the club. I came to find out subsequenty that the comment made by Sheepy when he saw me on the street was "That looks like Mikeyboy if he started doing heroin" (which is actually pretty similar to the comment made a little over a year ago that set a number of events in motion that lead to ADF leaving the board, Fez attending the Homeless Shopping Spree and the Alkey/Reilly conflagration).

We finally found the place and I met up with Jon, who informed me that the club wanted to put a DJ in our room. We weren't pleased with this at all, because there was already a DJ playing music outside our room at a teeth rattling volume, so we needed our room to be a respite from the club noise where people could talk. We talked to the club manager, and he was pretty insistent about the DJ, and saying that he wanted to put one in there because we didn't have our own DJ. We talked to the owner to see if he could bypass the DJ. He was pretty insistant that we have a DJ as well. We lied and said that we made some calls and found a DJ, and he was on his way over, and they seemed okay with that.

Still, I was really annoyed. The DJ thing bugged me, I wasn't thrilled about the room itself, and the club in general didn't seem like the "right vibe" for our crowd. I was practically apologizing to people as they came in. Clearly I looked pissed off, because people kept asking me if everything was okay. A switch kind of turned when I realized that a whole lot of people who I really like hanging out with were either at the club or on their way. From then on, I decided to let it go and had a really good time. I have the people who showed up to thank for that. You all made it a really great time. I especially thank all of you who made the extra effort to make it to Brooklyn, especially with a storm in the forecast. I know Brooklyn isn't the most accessible place or some of you, but it means a lot to me that you all made the trip. Oh yeah...

Okay, back to our story. At one point, a few guys from the club showed up and started setting up the DJ equipment in our room. I asked what they were doing and they told me that they were going to play some music until our DJ showed up. I explained that you could pretty easily hear the music from the other DJ through the wall, and the people from our party who wanted to dance were out on the dance floor. Again, I lied. I had no idea whether any of our party was out on the dance floor. They tried to get me to let them play music, and see how it went, but I didn't want them to. I was asked, "so they just want to talk to each other" I said yes, which they found kind of surprising. They came back later and set up before I realized it and started playing music, and I'll be damned if you fuckers didn't start dancing.

I don't know why they were so insistent on a DJ though. I guess we weren't the crowd they were used to. They were trying to get me to turn the lights off in the room to give it a club atmosphere, but I declined.

Someone overheard some people from the club worrying that they weren't making any money off of us because we didn't pay a cover, but I think they failed to appreciate that you're all a bunch of alcoholic degenerates. :tongue:

After the party I found myself at the home of Dave and Casey playing Guitar Hero III and watching shitty quality G n' R video concert bootlegs. A car service took me back to Manhattan through an ice storm. I got home at 4:00, got to bed by 5:00, and still had to get up in the morning to see my kids in a Christmas pageant. I'm exhausted.

Oh -- and Flea... at the beginning of the night, one of the guys working the door came up to Jon and me and asked us whether we promoted the party as a 21+ event. Jon indicated that we had. The door guy stated that there was a guy outside who was under 21 and they weren't going to let him in. We said okay. It turns out it was Flea. As I understood it, he tried to get in a couple of times and they told him that there was no way that they were letting him in so he should just go home. About 15 minutes later, Flea was standing next to me in our room. It turns out that there was one club entrance for our party (with no cover) and a second entrance with a $20 cover for the regular club-goers. Anyway, it turns out the club itself is 18+, so Flea just went to the other entrance and paid his $20 to get in. We could have made our party 18+ and he wouldn't have had any trouble, but we honestly thought the place was 21+. Anyway, inadvertently we cost Flea $20, which, yeah, kind of made me laugh a little. Later I was busting Flea's balls for it, and he said something to the effect of "if I become an intern for the show, you're going to be sorry", which was surprising to me because I was unaware that interns wielded that kind of power. :blink:

Anyway, thank you all for coming . You made a party that Jon and I stressed over a really fun event.

Since Mikey shared his story:

I was looking very forward to the party because I wanted to try out my new camera. Sheepy came down to Casa Fridays and we all took off for Brooklyn.

We drove around and couldn't see anything; I was expecting a neon sign or something to indicate the club, not just a banner with no lighting.

That being said, it was an interesting and fun time. Liz said it best; we as non-smokers had been spoiled with NYC and NJ being smoke-free.

I'm not good in clubs with pounding music because I can never hear what someone is saying without either screaming "what?" or getting uncomfortably close. So I spent a lot of time either snapping pictures or outside with the cigar smokers.

I had a good time seeing old faces and new faces. Surprisingly, I didn't drink at all last night; I only had half a beer but I woke up feel like I drank a lot more.

We drove around because I wanted White Castle on the way home and the roads got really, really icy.

We had fun.

Working for the shows is being brought into "the fold" which means you'll be seeing "inside stuff" that people may not want "out there" for public consumption.

I don't see why you're so hard up to work for them anyway. Maybe you should try interning at other stations before attempting to work at XM.

I had a HUGE blast, and have to attribute most of that to the dancers led by the one and only Fez Marie!! (i hope he found his brooch!) Fez on the dancefloor was the highlight of the night, and perhaps the entire year.

Leticia, Silera, Misty on the dance floor-- I am speechless!!! AWESOME!! Oh and You too stripping Jeff!

Thank you to Dean for helping me find parking and saved me from a nightmare of panicking and driving aimlessly. Thank you to Erock and his wonderful chick for walking me back to my car in what was a slightly scarey neighborhood.

Even though it wasn't our 'usual scene' i thought it was a blast, and an experience, right up to the 2.5 hour drive home past scores of cars in guard rails during a HORRIBLE ice/slush/wintry mix storm.

Loved meeting Mongo the Trucker. Missy gets the award for best dressed. And yay to everyone for knowing how to have a good time. I actually loved the DJ that came in later. I'm glad he wasn't there all night, but it was good fun and almost everyone got into it.

Oh and I hope Ope's appearance put to rest anyone who believed that bullshit last year about him needing some kind of security team and special star treatment. :)
