sorry i misread your post, i was busy galavanting about town with my young whippersnapper friends and listening to our rock and roll and jazz records.

I work in the GM parts business...so I deal with this group of people that have this act about them that they are older and any new comers are just stupid. I understand that if you've been in a business for so long that you know alot....but when I've been in a particular part of the "business" for so long, I will know a little bit more about it than some no matter what my age is. Anyways, He is ordering a front fascia for a car that has to go to a well known body shop in town, but is complaining because our PDC in Jacksonville, FLA doesn't have it. Well, I worked parts in the body shop for the same dealership that I now sell parts for 5 years, so I know the procedure when it comes to ordering that certain part from GM. Its a two day shipment, so I tell him thats the only way he's going to be able to get it, then he starts blabbering about how its bullshit and then when I advise him to check on it, he starts talking over me like as if I wasn't saying anything to him. Now I respect my elders....but I was also taught by elders to earn respect. Me not knowing this guy very long, have done what I have to do to earn respect but he flat out disrespects me is something that I don't tolerate anymore.....

2nd instance today, theres this guy with a well known company around town that ordered parts from me Friday, he comes in and makes me check all the parts to make sure they are they correct side and everything. Its ok, I don't mind it....but he has this attitude that most older people give me that "I'm old, your stupid" act that pisses me off. So he goes back to his work and calls me back 20 minutes later with this shitty attitude that I've royally fucked up his day and I don't know what I'm doing.....I ordered what he told me to order him and he agreed to it, but I'm the dumbass....its really hard to just shrug it off when you deal with shit like this day to day to day......so anyways, he wants me to send my porter halfway around the world and get this other part he needs for him. When I tell him I will try my best to get him down there, but we have other customers that were in line first, he gives me this, "Well you just do what I told you and get it to me" speech....but I can't do anything about it cause he's a great customer, but he's the one who showed me what he needed......


I guess thats the kinda way you get treated as a young kid, but I hate being placed in a catagory of "Stupid punk" when I've done everything but put myself in that place. Its makes me bitter and wish old people would break hips more often.

It's not worth the headache it causes. When an older person gives me issues I just look them straight in the eyes and smile with that 'alright, you'll be dead soon' look.

They know it too, that's why they are such wretched individuals.

What you are describing doesn't depend on age - I deal with people like that all the time. However, there are a lot of people that feel nervous/out of place when dealing with tech problems they don't understand so they can naturally get a little defensive.

However, I will admit that older people can be very frustrating. Both of my grandfathers are difficult, each in their own way. They don't listen to anybody, but they are also in their 80's.

Old people are often just full of shit. They always bring up that they are wiser because they lived longer, but when they get fucked over it's a different story. Then they say they were taken advantage of because they are old. I don't have the time to try to explain shit to them.

It might also have to do with the fact you work for a parts department for a big name auto company. I know that I automatically feel a mistrust towards these guys and I am immediately on the defense when dealing with them. And I don't believe anything they tell me if it's not what I want to hear. And I'm not old, I'm just an asshole.
