Gospel music.
Whenever I listen to REAL Gospel music, I get teary eyed. Even when I was a long haired, pierced, rebellious youngster... I secretly loved Gospel music. Now... it STILL hits me so hard.

What always gets to you?
What is guaranteed to make you "get somethin' in your eye"?

The sequence in the last episode of Band of Brothers where they're playing baseball in Germany and Winters narrates over it telling what they all went on to do. Hearin about these guys going home to do these perfectly normal things after living through hell i just gut-punching.

And then in the final interview with the real guys, with Winters talking about how his grandson asked if he was a hero in the war and he says "no...but I served with a company of heroes" as he chokes up. Ouch.

A few years ago, I was in the Army and talking to a bunch of dudes about movies that made us cry.
This guy said "ARMAGEDDON"..... that dude said "ROCKY".... another dude said "OLD YELLER" .... I think I said "E.T." etc etc.
One kid piped up and said "there's only one movie that makes me cry!" and before he could tell us what it was, he started to get choked up. He said:
"HARRY AND THE HENDERSONS."

We laughed and said "that movie with that retarded wookie?!" but, he actually started to get teary and said "oh man... at the end.... when they let 'em go free... ah man... it's just so sad."

I love depressing stuff. Weird.

Me too. I've always loved slow, sad songs.

BTW-Here's a GOOD one (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=15440764)

Bettye LaVette is up for a Grammy with her latest album. She's an old Motown artist from the early 60's. She does a cover of a little known Willie Nelson song "Somebody Pick Up My Pieces" which is great. Music is pure Country just like Willie wrote it. with her bluesy, soulful singing. Beautiful song.

FRICK, Fezident and Darkhippie are right- the dying dog scene in Futurama is a total tearjerker.

The scene in Babe, The Gallant Pig where the little pig says "She called us all the same...she called us all...babe."

Breaking the Waves. Pretty much all of it. Can't watch it again, ever, but like it a lot.

Welcome To The Dollhouse, mostly the scene where the poor idiot boy offers the popular girl a broken cookie. My sisters watch this movie constantly and I don't know how they can deal with the sadness.

"The Cripple And the Starfish" by Antony and the Johnsons

"They Can't Take That Away From Me" by Ella Fitzgerald

"Hallelujah"- Either by John Cale or Rufus Wainwright. I like the Cohen version but maybe it's too slow and talky to bring on the weepies.

"Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien" by Edith Piaf.

I guess these are all the same song.

I generally cry when Fez cries.

When Beth dies in Little Women, not even like oh she's dead but the fact that she prefaces her own death by saying she was never as great as any of her other sisters. Terrible.

Anything that involved Ben Foster's character of Freaks & Geeks, i lost it when he broke his arm.

There was a show on TLC about primordial dwarfism a couple of months ago. I basically sat in front of the T.V. and sobbed until my boyfriend couldn't take it anymore and changed the channel.

When i was younger i would cry at the end of Home Alone when the mom finally makes it to the house.

I also cried in Jurassic Park when the triceratops is sick and on the ground dying.

The scene in "Saving Private Ryan" where Barry Peppers character (Private Jackson, the sniper) gets blown away by the Nazi tank when he is in the churchtower.

I lost my shit both when Giovanni Ribisi died and all he is doing is calling for his mother then they dope him up to put him out of his misery and when Vin Diesel was bleeding to death just asking for them to take the letter to his dad and how he was getting blood on it.

1) Since Field of Dreams has already been mentioned, I'll go with the end of the Natural, from the GW-home run to the fade of the ball landing in his glove and throwing back to his son.

2) Most of Zevon's "The Wind". Knowing that the man is dying throughout the production of the album just makes it that much more sob-worthy.

3) Springsteen's "Into the Fire". I listened to it for the first time when I was on the way to meet my first niece for the first time.
