In the last year or so I have deveoped an interesting/annoying/weird little quirk that I've never admitted to anyone. It seems like whenever I do something even slightly embarrassing I'll say "Howard Stern" to myself under my breath. That's it. I have no idea where it comes from, or why I do it, but for some reason it makes me feel better. I haven't even heard Stern once since he left terrestrial radio so I don't know why I'd even be thinking about him.

Example: Yesterday I was in church and I guess I zoned out and got a little too close to a lit candle. Some stranger ran up behind me and pushed me out of the way and told me that I almost set my jacket on fire. Of course, once we sat down my lovely wife immediately started to bust on me and my clumsiness. So, I just mutter "Howard Stern". My wife says: "What did you say?" and I tell her "Nothing." She thinks that I cursed her out and I'd rather have her believe that than know the strange embarrassing truth.

Please tell me I'm not the only one with a completely wackadoo quirk.

I don't think you are. When I was a kid I would need to say the phrase "the end". I would need to say it once or a few times, but never to the point where anyone else was aware of what I did. If I had to say "The End" with any urgency I made sure I was by myself. As soon as I said it, I felt better.
I used to (and still do at times) count to four, or various cycles of four "1234, 1234, 1234" or even multiple groupings of "1234" (as long as they were multiples of 3, 4, and 12). Ironically I teach math.
I have thought for a long time that it is somewhat related to OCD, but as I talk to more and more people I found out many people have or have had some sort of ritual (I've had others as well).
Has anyone else found or find comfort in these ritualistic behaviors?
