I am down to 215 from 287. Still got 15 to go by July.
OK...I am starting to get fustrated. I am at a wall. I am between 210 and 215. I can't seem to lose anymore. I am probably going to change the workout.
I am planning on Running a 5k in June in honor of my Best Friends dad who died of cancer.

Good for you! I just bought my first pair of running shoes today! I'm running a little over a mile now but by June I should be doing 3.2 miles. Where is this 5k? I'm interested in doing a 5k this summer too.
In other work out news, I bought spinning shoes for my spinning class, and I cant wait to try them out. I love my spinning class. I'm down 20 pounds from January when I started with my personal trainer!!! I also started Bikram Yoga last night as well, what a crazy class that was. 110 degree heated room fro 90 minutes holding 26 yoga poses, it was a killer but I feel great today!

i got back about an hour ago, i waited till after the Yanks tonight to head to the gym.
here's a great motivation tool, hit the treadmill while watching The Biggest Loser. I did that tonight for the first time and it made me push myself just a little harder then i normally would have. Some of those people have lost whole persons during their time on the show. I saw some dude lost 144 lbs.! thats insane. my roommates friend was on the show this season so ive kept tabs on it, its a cool show to follow if youre trying to drop weight.

I've been able to build up my jogging to three miles straight at 6 miles an hour. Feels great to burn off about 600 calories in a half hour.
Now I just need to build it to about 5-6 miles and I'll be doing great.
Plus, I get to be on my treadmill, re-watching every ep of BSG. And doing this before the kids or wife is up helps.

Yesterday we walked all over Chinatown (Lafayette to Mott, uphill on Canal; down to Center and around the same block 3 or 4 times, in and out of the knockoff shops) ... then from Union Square down 14th Street to 3rd Avenue, back up 13th Street to The Strand (yes, I know, we didn't have to walk down to 3rd to get to The Strand, but I can only find it when I'm walking like I'm walking away from a restaurant I go to downtown) ... then back uptown to Grand Central and Westbound to 5th Avenue to visit the Lions at the NYPL Humanities & Social Sciences Branch at Bryant Park... then up to 49th Street to the American Girl Store ... then westbound again to Broadway ... then to the Schubert Theatre to pick up our show tickets at the Will-Call window ... then to dinner upstairs at Bubba Gump ... then to the Toys R Us megastore ... then back to 47th to the M&M's store ... then back down to 44th to the Schubert... after the show, down to 42nd to pick up the Subway ... through Penn Station (up ramps and stairs from the LIRR levels) to the NJ Transit concourse ... and home to New Brunswick station. By that time, we were tired and we took the elevator to the level on the parking deck where we'd left my car.
So ... I guess we put in 5 miles + yesterday.
Today, I dragged my friend all over the Menlo Park and Woodbridge Malls.
That's a good mile or so today.
Now my hips are very sore. I think I will need to swim next week.

So, in a little under one month I go to Myrtle Beach, SC to play golf for a week and I have officially decided it is time to step it up just a little bit. I will now be in the gym 6 days a week in hopes of losing roughly 10 more lbs before my trip. Today was day 1 of the new regimen and I passed all tests with flying colors. Done with the gym
I'm jumping back in full throttle this week. Put on a few pounds this winter that I want off.
I'm mixing in some running in the park with basketball and baseball (got a couple buddies who like to play one or the other a couple times a week) and lifting some free weights every other day.
The gym weirds me out, so I'm not going back...I love running outdoors more. It's so much more calming if you pick the right spots (we've got a couple great parks, and an awesome State Park around here).
Thinking of redoing the first stage of Fat Smash again just to kind of retune my diet a little.
And I'm definitely looking into starting Yoga. I'm not interested in building a ton of muscle mass, and I want the flexibility, plus there's supposedly some great energy boosting techniques you can do with it.

Ralph, that's just fucking awesome! Congrats, man.
Yesterday on the elliptical, today a spin class. My knee is really giving me trouble, and I think I'm going to have to go see an orthopod.
I still have a serious 15 pounds to go.
Diagnosis: torn meniscus. Goddamnit, I knew there was something wrong. I took some time off - I had a lot of traveling to do for work, and I was hoping that the problem was tendonitis which gets better with rest, but it didn't get any better. I'm getting an MRI next week to see what we'll do next.
The good part is that the doc cleared me to go back to the gym. I can't make it any worse on the elliptical or spinning, so that's what I'll do. I put 10 pounds back on and I'm pissed. I barely recognize myself in the mirror, I realized the other day. Literally, there's a disconnect between how I see myself in my head and what I actually look like.
So I'm back, Game. Looks like it was kind of lonely in here, and it's good to see you fighing the good fight.

Thats actually what I was told by a couple people. The trainer I just started working with says he only wants me to drop 10 more lbs.
I started running outside for the first time on Monday and after 1.5 miles wishing I had stayed on a treadmill tuesday morning. I got out again Tuesday afternoon and did another mile.

i don't know dick about this stuff which is why i asked for help but it doesnt feel like a nerve issue, its much more the fact that my bicep and tricep muscles go weak. i changed up some exercises today and it was good through the first half but once i did curls and chest my arm started acting up again. im gonna rest it for a few days after tomorrow with intense icing sessions on the weekend. if its still killing by monday im gonna go to the doctor. it only happens when i lift or golf.

i don't know dick about this stuff which is why i asked for help but it doesnt feel like a nerve issue, its much more the fact that my bicep and tricep muscles go weak. i changed up some exercises today and it was good through the first half but once i did curls and chest my arm started acting up again. im gonna rest it for a few days after tomorrow with intense icing sessions on the weekend. if its still killing by monday im gonna go to the doctor. it only happens when i lift or golf.
If you feel a lot of pain, I'd say torn muscke or a strained or torn tendon or ligament. You's probably see some bruising in the area too. Just a deadening sensation, without a lot of pain lends itself to a nerve issue. But what do I know, I'm just an f-ing banker with busted ribs. Hope you feel better soon.
Personally, I've been riding the pine for two weeks now waiting for the pain to subside. It hasn't. So, F-it I'm back on the ice in the morning and will pick up back in the gym on monday. Two weeks is enough.

im back, its really hard trying to keep up your normal routine after you take 10 days off. i had to tone down my running a little today cause my legs just didnt have it. my arm felt a little better but i had to adjust my exercises so the ones that bothered me the most i did last instead of first. all in all a tough first week back.

My diet plan is asking for 1 hr cardio a day (either at once, or broken up into 2 30 minutes sessions), along with pilates/squats.
So I decided that I was going to jog outside yesterday because it was nice out. I have not REALLY exercised in a while I guess, because I don't get that winded from the treadmill. It must be the fucking smoking, because I had to jog a block, get out of breath and grasp chest like having a heart attack, then walk a block to recover. Now my legs are crazy sore today, all from an hours worth of easy activity.
But, I think jogging outside is definitely giving me a better workout than the treadmill. I think I'm just going to use my gym for Racketball, pool and the weight machines.

Actually, yes, it's sort of a kick start to a regular diet. Jeff did the same thing with just brown rice a few months ago and I opted for veg. Yesterday, the third day, I felt like GARBAGE. Apparently from crap being released from my body, I guess. I stunk and was really nauseous and lightheaded. Today I feel awesome, and am moving on to regular diet for 20 days.

keep up the good work Amy, just build yourself up slowly. if you feel crazy ambitious one day then go for a jog, if you cant do it then simply slow to a walk. either way you'll be getting your work in for the day and you'll feel better about yourself.
i just got back from the gym and since theres no pain in my arm i went back to wednesdays being my heavy lift day. all went great. i think in order to shed the last few pounds beginning next monday im going to add one more lap to my treadmill running, totaling it up to 4.5 miles. i think that should do the trick depending on how much weight i lose this week.

jumping rope is honestly one of the best workouts you can do. when i lived at my parents house up in jersey there used to be a heavy bag in the basement and for about 2 months me and two friends were on a sick routine. we'd hit the heavy bag for minute and a half rounds and when it wasn't our turn to hit or hold the bag we'd be jumping rope. after every night i was absolutely dead tired and i felt amazing. too bad i hit the bag so hard once that i knocked it off its holding thing and we never put it back up. but yea, jump rope cause its good for you.
i just got back, it was a good night. nothing fun to report.

Don't give up! Try half hour walks, they really don't get your heartrate bumping, but prepare you for cardio or lifting. Are you warming up (stretching) before jumping? This also helps limber you up.
I am currently at 123lbs from 176lbs. To maintain (and amazingly keep loosing), I just walk my dog 2 times a day (totaling a mile) and eat South Beach Phase 3 friendly about 5 times a day. I also do bicep curls with my dog....he's only 14lbs, but he likes the interaction and the pathetic look of "mommie, what the hell are you doing" keeps me going.
I also learned to only sip water, not chug, and to not eat for at least a half hour after exercising. To burn the max. amount, you do this, otherwise, chugged water or immediately eating slows the metabolism back down from what i understand.
good luck!

yeah along with my jumping rope i do a 2 mile walk on the treadmill.....which equalls at an avg of 35 minutes for me right now.
I haven't started to do any kind of lifting but i know eventually i will have to. i probably will just use my resistance bands until i get weights.

Don't lift until you loose a good amount of weight, or else you'll bulk. Muscle does help you burn faster, but a layer of adipose tissue OVER muscle is not the result most wemmin' folk want to see....ever...... And remember, nice long lean muscle comes from reps, not resistance (ie: more reps, less weight increases).

My body fat is like a tsunami and it's reached it's highest point. I'm absolutely certain that I can't possibly get any bigger. I caught a glimpse of myself in a window as I walked through midtown today, and I literally didn't recognize that it was me.
So I went to spin class today, the only thing left that I can do until I have knee surgury, which I can't have until november when my business slows down. Speaking of slowing down, I have the metabolism of a cement truck now.
At 42, I've crossed a threshold where my body just isn't going to do things as easily as it used to, and I haven't adjusted. It isn't that I'm eating that bad - although I haven't been eating great - but every single thing I eat shows up now. I have to work harder on my flexibility, and I really have to bring my weight down, I'm talking 25 serious pounds. My wife and I are expecting our first child in November, and I need to get lean and fit so I can do whatever I want with the kid through my 50s.
So if you'll have me, I'm back people.
My name is Ritalin and I'm a fat fuck.

Been trying to get into a routine the last few weeks. Using the elliptical at least half an hour a day, ideally two 30 minute-sessions if I have the day off. Bench pressing every other day, working the arms and shoulders the other. Trying to wake up and do crunches and push-ups and then the same before bed. Being sure to eat a decent breakfast, less carbs all day, no fast good, no food after 9 PM unless it's fruit or veggies or healthy cereal.
It's not fun.

Still here- been on vaca and training out of town, so haven't been able to post (or work out regularly, either.) But, that is all behind me and it's back to the routine tonight.
As far as swimming goes, britneypablo is right- great exercise, least amount of strain on joints, etc... Game- I try to do at least 30-45 min swimming laps after every workout- it is a great way to stretch out and get the blood moving through your muscles again. Also it is a great way to burn a ton of extra calories and start taking off weight- you've already burned through most of your quick energy reserves in the weight room, now for 45 or so minutes, your body starts searching for other sources, i.e. adipose tissue. I find that swimming after the weight room is the quickest way to get problem areas back in line.
For example, having been on vaca and out of town for training for the past two weeks all the eating out and beer settled a lil bit in my waist, but I am sure that after a week of hitting the pool hard after working out, all of it will be history. My cholesterol level, though, maybe not so much....damn cream sauces.

thursday was my cardio day. 90 minutes walking / running
today i did about 75 minutes core/upper body, adductor strengthening and then after work i decided to walk over to a nearby track i just discovered to do the miracle mile challenge again. i put my bag down which had my li'l wallet (with this week's tip money & keys and everything else). ran two laps and i noticed the bag was not how i left it (i noticed a couple of kids but i was at the other end of the track and was hoping it was nothing)...so yeah, they took my bag and left so i didnt get to complete the challenge again. i hope those kids got hit by cars and died painfully on their way home tonight.

what exactly is a hot stone massage? ive heard about them before and i have no idea what they are other than the fact the involve hot stones and a massage (obviously). basically, hows the combo work?
Jennitalia
08-06-2008, 05:19 AM
hot stone massage is basically like a swedish massage, although, you can use some deep tissue/myofascial strokes). you use oil and use some lighter swedish strokes to help get the oil on the body and then just use the same strokes with stones. the heat feels good, and the heat from the stones helps reduce tension, knots, trigger points, and qi blockages. you can also use some cold stones . personally, i'd rather just get a deep tissue massage.

I have entered the area, not sure how long it will last but I will see what I can do. This week I am starting off slow, walked / jogged a mile 3 nights and have been doing pushups daily, as well as chinups.
my goal is to basically tone up, build some muscle and lean mass, maybe drop 7 -10 pounds. I have already lost about 8 pounds, so I do not want to drop to much weight. I was not that heavy to begin with.
The main thing I am changing is modifying my eating habbits. More, smaller meals during the day, including breakfast which i used to never eat. Some healthy granola bars for snacks, and really cutting down my portion size at dinner.
I am fucking hungry most of the day, but I manage. the busier work is the better it is for me and the diet

You wearing the right sneakers for your foot type?
I'd recommend a stability or motion control shoe. Brands I've liked in the past include Brooks (Adrenaline [stability] or Ariel [motion control]), Ryka (KM-5, KM-6 and KM-7; liked the KM-5's best), Asics (2100 series [stability]) and, currently New Balance (1122 [motion control] and 857 [stability]) ... I've been happier having the right shoes because then my ankles, knees and hips don't hurt. OK, these shoes will run

Well since I just started the 100 push up challenge, I may as well join this thread too. It'll help my motivation getting into a group where I can report back to people and see what others are doing as well.
For the past couple weeks I've been eating considerably better (mostly just fruit, yogurt, granola bars and grilled chicken) and only have been drinking water. I've also been doing a bunch of push ups, crunches and squats.
And since I'm working with my anxiety problem (hey! just started Klonopin a couple days ago!), I just started doing laps in my basement around my ping pong table. I did a half a mile Monday night and a half a mile this morning, and I'm going for a full mile in the morning.
Improvising to work around my anxiety is fun. Hell, I even started holding my big 7 pound arm chair pillow thingy while doing squats.
I'm looking forward to becoming a part of this thread and joining everyone in the quest to better health.

Hi folks, my name is James and I am new here.
I just got back from a 3 mile walk, my doctor can't believe the level of recovery that I'm at after having major surgery just over 2 weeks ago. I can't do anything too strenous but I am going to start working out with some 5 lb weights just to try and get the blood flowing. I'm not supposed to lift anything heavier than 25 lbs for a month or so. I'm going to keep on walking and getting my sweat on.
I'm back at Weight Watchers and I'm at my lowest weight in 10 years. (Though 2 surgeries in a month does tend to curb your appetite.)
Nevertheless, I expect to be at a major personal weight goal in about 2 weeks so I will keep you in the loop.

Awesome, Tall Man. I'm also at my lowest weight since freshman year of HS (4 years ago). The last time I weighed myself was in the spring of this year, and I was pushing 270. I ate pretty poorly (but significantly less) for most of the summer, and a month and a half ago I started working out and eating real healthy. I weighed myself last night and I'm at 247, probably the first time I've been under 250 since high school.
I'm going to weigh myself every Sunday now, and my goal is to get down to 197, a 50 pound loss. Ideally before the end of the year. I got some work to do.

that's fantastic, keep up the great work! my hat's off to ya for getting up at the crack...that's motivation! i've always had problems getting up earlier than i have to. i used to set the clock with the best intentions, but then would almost always wake up in the middle of the night, early am to set it for the regular time. i'm now in a situation where my life has settled down and i can follow a schedule....so i'll go to the track after the days that i work (unless i get a late appointment friday night, because then i'll have problems sleeping that night), and on my days off, i go for my walk/run intervals (90 minutes) about an hour or so after i wake up. and then i get my toning done normally on my downtime between clients in my treatment room.
today i did maybe 75 minutes of toning stuff in my room, and i also tried a new pilates dvd. my lumbar erectors are still short, so i found some of the more intermediate exercises difficult. hopefully i can loose things up with time and practice. also bought a belly dancing dvd, i thought that would be fun, and i can learn some moves. so far so good. i'm more coordinated than i thought.

Plus, I'm finally beginning to get over my anxiety problem, and I took a good walk around town today(about 4 miles overall) and even got out to the store and walked to a mailbox to drop off the final 2 discs of the last season of The Wire, which was AWESOME.
Anyway, I'm doing well, and I hope come December-January I'll have reached my weight loss goal and can also be mentally ready to start fully piecing my life back together.
And I'm glad to have this thread for some extra motivation, and hopefully my progress will help motivate some of you guys who need a little extra as well.

Pool's open again! Spent about 45 swimming laps last night. Back in the gym tonight.
Jen, I am way envious of the time you have. By the time I get the kids down and run to the gym, it is 8:30-9 or so. The joint closes at 10 and I hate to be that guy the whole staff is waiting for to go home, so I try to wrap it up by 9:45 (esp. if I am swimming, with the shower and changing time). I'd love to have a couple of hours to really get a solid workout in.
Every once in a great while, the stars line up just right and I get there at 8. Those days I get to do a full hour in the weight room, followed by about 45 swimming laps. String a couple of those sessions together and the results are awesome. Fekkin kids.

Plus, I'm finally beginning to get over my anxiety problem, and I took a good walk around town today(about 4 miles overall) and even got out to the store and walked to a mailbox to drop off the final 2 discs of the last season of The Wire, which was AWESOME.
First and most importantly, the Wire fucking rules. And keep up the good work with the weight loss.
I should start dropping weight again. I'm 225 and I hope to be under 200 by end of year. I can drop pretty easy when I focus so here it goes.
Have a 10k on Sunday the 21st.

The Wire really does rule. Once I saw the first couple episodes, I was completely hooked, and I put everything else from Netflix on the backburner until I got through all 5 seasons. It was well worth it. Fucking unbelievable show.
I weighed myself again today (it's the only thing I can't curb as far as cravings, pretty much - not having problems eating right, I'm exercising every day, and I'm being overall more productive in life) - and I hate that I weighed myself because the intention was to only do it every Sunday and track my progress that way, but I weighed myself yesterday and today already. Oh well. At least I'm down a few pounds from Sunday.
I don't think I'm going to have a problem getting to my target weight of 197 before the new year. Got about 45 pounds to go.
Now I started focusing on trying to do a neck bridge again. I used to do a MEAN neck bridge back when I used to wrestle before high school, and now I'm struggling to keep myself up for more than a few seconds (Mod quote me, I don't care!). Exercise rules. It's just awesome.
