I went and had a followup body composition test at the local medical university. Over 14 weeks of diet and exercise I've lost 32 lbs of fat and gained 8 lbs of muscle mass.

I'm on a Schwinn Airdyne almost every day for an hour.

This is by far the best fitness machine I've ever used, have had one in the household since I was about 15.

Schwinn Airdyne (http://www.amazon.com/Schwinn-Airdyne-Upright-Exercise-Bike/dp/B000E158CK?&camp=212361&linkCode=wsw&tag=coudavspla-20&creative=380789)

I also get on a treadmill regularly and plan to have an indoor pool put in next year.

I do the Wii Sports Fittness test daily - today I was 59 (I can't hit the baseballs) hoping to get a Wii Fit soon.

i've started new pilates tapes and other different toning things, and i guess i was just sore from that, plus i need new sneakers.

today i just wanted to stretch, so i did 60 minutes yoga. yesterday i did 5 miles walking

Very nice. I worked out for about 4 hours yesterday before going to the absolute STOMPING that Rutgers got. Some jumping jacks with 5 pound weights, about an hour and a half on the stationary bike, some squats, crunches, and then finished it off by running the steps in my house for about 20 minutes.

I was annoyed though because after the football game I wanted to go across the street to the parking lot and run sprints to get the taste out of my mouth, but I was dead tired, so I just slept, and my legs were too sore to do anything today. I guess I walked about a mile, but it was just down the street to pick up a newspaper for my father.

I'm just feeling a bit down today, and I really need to get my spirits back up to work out more tomorrow. I just can't stop checking the scale, and it's frustrating because I do it so often, and over the past week and a half it goes between 248 and 245 daily, and I feel like I'm making no progress.

great job! dont be so down on yourself. the scale is going to go down...it takes a couple of weeks for your metabolism to start going, and during this time, your creating muscle, which is heavier than fat. it also helps if you set smaller goals for yourself, and not just look at the big picture of what you want to accomplish (ie, i'm going to run/walk x miles this week, or i'm going to get below 240 by the end of the month) and reward yourself when these accomplishments happen. keep up the great work...and more importantly, KEEP EXERCISING - this will absolutely keep your spirits up. speaking for myself, i've been working out consistantly now since may, and i've never felt better. i can be the moodiest bitch (some may even say cunt), but exercise has curbed it to the point where i'm just a pleasent patty now.

09-13-2008, 04:19 AM
Haha thanks. Yeah, I do always feel really good when I'm working out, but it has gotten somewhat frustrating. I've been overweight my whole life (not huge, but I've always been round and haven't been under something like 35% bodyfat since I was like 12).

I haven't been "in shape" since before high school, and once I got to college I completely fell apart. I didn't gain a shitload of weight, because I wasn't eating all too well, but I did absolutely nothing and got way out of shape to the point where I could barely walk up a flight of stairs without being out of breath. And then with my anxiety and depression I ended up leaving school last October (weighing probably 240), and by April I was pushing 275 and doing NOTHING.

Then my depression got worse and from May to late July I ended up losing 15-20 pounds just because I was barely eating, even though I was just laying in bed or sitting around all day most days.

I kinda just had a bad day yesterday though. They're much, much more rare over the past month and a half or so, though, so I guess I was just venting some frustration. By Monday I'll be fine and be happily working out as much as physically possible again.

Thanks for cheering me up though. I appreciate it, and stuff like this is why I come here now and rarely visit WB anymore.

Jennitalia
09-16-2008, 12:03 PM
our stories are very similar, commish. i gained the freshman 15 in college, and then after college i packed on the pounds...it was an awful time, i didnt really know who i was or where i was going, i was in a depression for the last few years of my 20s. i'd work out and lose some weight, and then get bored with it all or not satisfied with the progress. now, even if i'm not in the mood, i'll go out and do at least a 25 minute walk, and usually that turns into something longer...i'm amazed at how it can turn my mood around by just doing that little. anyway, if you need to vent, or support, or just a kick in the ass, i'll be happy to help

sunday i walked for 30 minutes. monday i walked 5 miles, did 40 minutes pilates and 20 minutes belly dancing. today i walked 30 minutes, ran 2 1/2 miles, core exercises for 30 minutes, and 30 minutes belly dancing.

commish13
09-16-2008, 12:24 PM
Ooooh belly dancing.

Anyway, I do agree that working out has improved my mood, but my depression came out of nowhere and for no reason I can figure out on Friday, and got worse as the weekend went on. I tried to do a little time on the exercise bike, but other than an hour I was able to do on Friday, I've been able to do pretty much nothing. I did some more of the push up challenge last night, but I've been intending to do more, but I can't.

The depression and anxiety came back HARD over the weekend, and it's only backed off somewhat today, but I still can't find it in me to do pretty much anything at all. Luckily I go to my shrink tomorrow and try to figure some of this out.

At least I have my new Betta fish to amuse me. It makes me giddy seeing him eat. Throw in a couple pellets, he swims up, grabs them, and then it looks like he's chewing.

His name is Mister Blufusch.

That was unexpected. Beat the wife and kids. Made me legit LOL.

EL OH EL.

Anyway, I'm still not doing so well, but I'm trying. I did a bunch of sets of jumping jacks holding 5 lb dumbbells, and I started week 4 of the push up challenge, but I fell asleep on the floor before I could finish. That kinda sucked.

Oh well. Giving blood in about an hour and a half, and I'm walking to get there, so that's a good 5 mile round trip.

I'm hoping that will give me some motivation to get back into it as well as I was doing a couple weeks ago.

playing sports is awesome, hockey is pretty much the only sport i never played when i was a kid and i fully regret it. yet its my favorite sport to watch live.

i just joined a softball league, and while its nowhere near as intense as playing hockey, i look forward to every sunday now (well, also because of the NFL) so i can get out on the field and compete. keep us updated on how the season goes.

i just got back for kicking my ass at the gym today.

Couldn't sleep tonight, so I went out at 2am and decided to walk until I felt like going home. I ended up walking 6 miles. Then I didn't want to stop, so I ran endzone to endzone on a football field 6 times, which was as much as I could do before I felt like my feet were going to fall off.

Made me feel quite good. I also rode the stationary bike for about 40 minutes in the afternoon.

Worked out a bit today. Walked about a mile (closest mailbox is half a mile from home, and I had to drop off some Netflix stuff), then I came home and did a bunch of stuff with light weights and one of them tension tube thingies, whatever it's called. Then I did 15 minutes on the bike going as hard as I could.

Twas nice, as I didn't intend on doing anything today, and came out with a decent little workout.

i haven't posted in here in a while but the good news is:

I PASSED MY PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST!

situps - 33 in 51 seconds (needed 32 in 1 minute)
300m dash - 60 seconds (had 63 seconds)
83% body weight bench press - piece of cake
1.5 mile run - 12 minutes (had 14:08 to do it)

the 1.5 mile run was the fastest i've ever run it. never underestimate the power of running with a group and trying to stay with the lead runners.

I've had a great week. I've done 200 minutes of cardio this week, which is my target. I've also hit a new record in benchpress - 315 4 times.
All in all, in 14 weeks I've lost 38 lbs of fat and gained 10 lbs of muscle. (according to 2 body comp. tests I had over the past 14 wks.)

I was pretty badass today. I spent about an hour beating the shit out of the heavy bag I finally put back up, and then spent about half an hour running my basement steps. Then back to the heavy bag for about half an hour, and then 15 more minutes running the steps. I also did about half an hour with the stretchy cable thing along with 5 pound dumbbells and did a bunch of different workouts with that. Good upper body strength training there. Then a little later, I did good full hour straight on the stationary bike.

Good day today. Off tomorrow because I'm going to the Rutgers game, although I will be walking about 3/4 of a mile from the parking lot to the stadium and back, so that's a little something.

I appreciate it, mister chili. I'd call today a very good day. Woke up around 7, had some egg whites and a banana, worked on a music video that I have to finish about 13 hours from now, and cleaned my little half-gallon Betta fishtank. He seems happy.

Got to see my brother yesterday at the Rutgers game (which they won in a blowout, but they played basically a HS team), so that was cool. And the Jets won today, even though they tried hard to give it away. And the Mets collapse AGAIN~! Willie must be laughing so hard that his injury from sliding into second base last week doesn't even hurt.

And I didn't expect to do any working out today, because late Saturday night my massive workout from Friday got to me by way of incredible soreness, but as the evening began to wind down, I started feeling better and decided to get a little bit going. So I ordered the Ring of Honor PPV (which was awesome, obviously), and rode the exercise bike for an hour and a half of the 2 hour show. Then for the last half our I used the tension band with some weights and did all kinds of stuff.

The as-official-as-I-can-get-it run down on my overall progress is as follows: I started in earnest (eating well combined with exercise) around August 10. That's a little over a month and a half ago. I've lost 15 pounds (253 to 238). I'm starting to actually have arms that look like they belong on a man, my t-shirts are beginning to have shoulders to rest on, and my man boobs are slowly but surely becoming manly pectorals. Also, my pants are losing the snug fit around the waist they used to enjoy, and most of my elastic shorts need my hands constantly holding them up if they don't want to immediately fall to my ankles. So that's cool.

Only think I haven't noticed much, if at all, of a change in is my gut, but the stomach is the toughest place to lose weight. But I'll get there. I'm working on my stamina and it is very noticeably improved, so I'll be able to work that gut off as the months go by.

When I feel good and am proud of myself, I tend to write a lot. And since you all are all so nice about it, I feel comfortable and excited to give updates here. I'm glad I finally made RF.net my internet home.

sappy fag i am

Great game Friday- last game of the season, we were on the bubble for playoffs- needed a point. trailing 4-3 with 18 seconds to go, pulled the goalie, won a face off got a shot from the point, tied the game with 12 seconds to go and made the playoffs.

Did a good one today. Went down to the basement, put on the Phillies, and went at it. Beat the crap out of the heavy bag, did a heck of a lotta laps up and down the stairs, a bunch of crunches and pushups, some neck bridges to strengthen my neck and get my old flexibility back, and then worked out with the stretchy band and weights.

I'm getting a lot stronger both upper and lower body. Oh and I watched the last 2 innings of the Phillies' victory on that loveable stationary bike of mine. Feeling damn good. I'm getting addicted to this exercise thing.

Took a 2.5 mile walk down to my mom's office to pick up my car that she's been using so I could go shopping, then I did that, came home and watched Glengarry GlenRoss, and was on the bike for the last 25 minutes, then I watched the first couple innings of the Phils game on the bike, a full 45 minutes.

for the last month i have been training for a sprint marathon in the spring. I am right now spending a whole lot of time in the pool and on the bike. I am still a fat bastard and will destroy my knees running.

I am part of a masters swimming program which is for swimmers 30 and over. And when I swim it like a tug boat moving through the water. Nothing stream lined about me. Yet. I am swimming 1500 meters per session three times a week. On the bike I am pedaling about 15 miles per session three days a week.

Two of my sessions are brick sessions. Where I do 15 miles on the bike followed by 1500 meters in the pool. At some point I am going to have to incorporate the running. That will be a catastrophe.

I've been doing well. I'm officially calling my weight 225 right now, and I'm actually able to do a neck bridge. Can't stay up for too long without my hands on the floor, but I'm getting a much better back arch. I really gotta start working on my neck and back strength.

Oh, and I'm finally beginning to develop pecs instead of tits, and I have a hint of biceps, and I can vaguely see real traps forming. It's amazing.

I'm just really trying to get rid of my belly and fat thighs. But it's progressing slowly.

Kinda skimped yesterday - I don't remember if I did anything at all. And then today I ate a big roast beef sandwich and a bunch of lasagna.

But I think I made up for some of it by having a pretty intense workout session from about 8-11 tonight. Bunch of work with the tension cables, some pushups, crunches and flexibility stuff, and a new idea for the stationary bike.

Generally when I get on the bike, I do it for about 45 minutes, take a quick break and then go for another 45 minutes. I think a better way to do it is in 10 minute sprints (I don't know if there's a better word for it than that). When I would stay on for a long amount of time, there would be a number of times where I'd get tired and slow down significantly, and pretty much waste my time. So now I go as hard as I can for 10 minutes, take a short break, work on some other stuff, then go back for another 10 and repeat a bunch of times. I did the same 80-90 minutes as usual, just split up and working extra hard in sets. That seems like a good game plan.

Feel good tonight, but now I gotta get back on the mostly fruit diet and start working out harder if I wanna get down past 225.

I tried Bikram Yoga on friday and it was amazingly awful. They lock you in a room thats heated to about 115 degrees and you do all sorts of Yoga postures for 90 minutes. Halfway through I thought I was going to die and I had to lay down on my mat for the rest of the time. Have you ever done this? Its fucking unreal.

I'm back from the gym for the day, rough getting back in but im glad i did it.

what had been hard for me over the years was that i was just a miserable fuck and couldnt get or stay motivated. i just looked at the big picture and was just overwhelmed at the huge number of pounds i needed to lose. once i just broke things down and set mini-goals for myself and saw and felt the changes in me physically and psychologically, it became much easier. i'm at the point where this is the most consistent i've been as far as exercising since college. i actully enjoy it.

that said, i'm done with my run this morning...kicked my ass because i was a little dehydrated. now i'm going to cancel this all out with an afternoon of drinking and rooting on my steelers!

i disagree, everybody's body is different.....physically and mentally. whats easy to some isn't easy to others.

Well, yeah. It took me a very long time to get mentally healthy enough to get physically active again, but I'm talking about people who are simply lazy and complain about their weight and deny the fact that they overeat like motherfuckers.

Although to be fair, I was always a good athlete when I was younger, and all I needed was the mental health and motivation, and once that was in place, my athletic abilities have made it very easy for me to lose weight.

Oh, and my goal has changed. It was originally 197 by Jan. 1, and now I'm looking to drop 20 pounds and get down to just about 200 by Thanksgiving. It was a brainstormed idea/challenge from my younger brother. Last time he saw me before this weekend, I was 30 pounds heavier. I'm not going to see him again until Thanksgiving, and I figure I can lose close to 20 pounds this month. I'm in much better shape than I was when I started, and I lost about 15 pounds a month in the little over 2 months I've been working at this.

I've got a month, and tonight begins the journey.

There is a cold front moving in over south florida and it dropped the high today to 68 degrees (which is sadly now officially cold to me). since no place down here invests in heat the gym had to be 65 degrees when i went. even though i did my normal workout i didnt really sweat all that much because it was so cold in the gym. i just didnt feel like i busted my ass as hard as i could have due to lack of sweat.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b168/Jennitalia23/SartoriusAnterior.jpg

sartorius is the longest muscle in the body and assists in hip flexion, hip abduction, lateral rotation of the knee and flexion of the knee. so if you cross your leg so that your lower extremity looks like the number 4, you're using sartorius in full effect.

I guess the mileage I walked tonight counts. I walked all over NYC tonight, and had so much fun heckling people walking by the outdoor cafe-ish place we were at that I lost track of time and the only way I had to get home was the PATH back to Hoboken. Then I had to walk another 4 or so miles from there to get to Weehawken where my car was parked at the ferry terminal.

I probably walked close to 20 miles through the whole night. Best Halloween in a long time.

If it makes you feel any better, Jen, I gained 5 pounds in the last 24 hours. I worked out hard yesterday morning and got down to just over 210, but then last night I ate a shitload of spaghetti, and then I did minimal working out today and then finished the shitload of leftover spaghetti. It's not my fault, I'm Italian.

I hope your kitty hangs in there. I was sad when I almost lost my little fishy, but he made it through. I really hope your 'lil one is gonna be alright.

Went old school today. It was like I was wrestling again and was a few pounds overweight at the weigh-in. Put on a heavy sweatshirt, threw the hood over my head, and pounded out 40 miles on the stationary bike.

Got rid of about a pound every 10 miles. Back down to 211.5. Good enough for me. Now the test is 13 days long. Can he make 200 pounds by Thanksgiving Day?

Ha ha! Pats lost. Even though the Jets did everything they could to try to give the game away.

I got rid of the rest of the pasta weight, and I'm down to 210. Right back on track, and I'm feeling fantastic. My new goal is to be able to get a solid neck bridge to the point where I can touch my nose to the floor. I came SO CLOSE today, but couldn't quite make it. It's gonna happen soon.

Happy workouts, everybody!

Yeah well at least your heart isn't in tremendous pain thanks to long distance love.

But I do rule with the weight loss. I'm back up to 207 because I ate a very healthy portion of meatloaf on Sunday and didn't get a chance to work out over the weekend, or yesterday, so I'm trying to make as much of it up today as I can, but I've been busy today and haven't gotten a whole lot done yet. I'll spend a bunch of the night doing what I can.

Well, I tried. I'm down to 202.5 poundages. I worked HARD last night and today, but I'm just out of energy. I came close to the 200 pound mark by Thanksgiving, and at least I gave it my all.

Now I'm done with all physical activity until Saturday. The big no pads Thanksgiving weekend tackle football game looms ahead. I'll probably take off Sunday as well after the beating I'll get Saturday, and then start working off the Thanksgiving poundage on Monday.

Yay me

Hi guys!

I ran my four this morning, and did three runs over Thanksgiving- but I have not been near the scale since we determined that the Commish and I are racing to 200.

I guess now I know that he's hit it, I can weigh in tomorrow.

commish13

I kinda didn't end up doing anything today. My loving woman woke me up with a text at 8:15, and by then I was awake, so I went grocery shopping, and then talked to some people while waiting for my girl to call me up because she had her phone for a few more hours, but she was in class so I had to wait. But then we talked for like half an hour longer than she had, and then she had to bring her phone to whatever phone place and she won't have it until some time Thursday.

So I didn't bother doing anything today because I was busy waiting for her, then busy talking to her, then busy talking to other people while waiting for her to get out of class.

Workout resumes tomorrow. I guarantee under 200 pounds when I'm done.

Love ya Baddie.

Killed it again last night. Switching up the routine again- went back to the barbells from the dumbells last night. I knew it would be easier, but I was a little surprised by how much more weight I felt comfortable with. Started with the equivalent weight and it felt way too light, so I bumped up till I felt the burn.
