The only way I usually can get a song out of my head is if I sing it all the way through.

PROBLEM:

I don't know all the words to Mellow Yellow.

I'm just mad about Saffron
Saffron's mad about me
I'm just mad about Saffron
She's just mad about me

[Refrain:]
They call me mellow yellow
(Quite rightly)
They call me mellow yellow
(Quite rightly)
They call me mellow yellow

I'm just mad about Fourteen
Fourteen's mad about me
I'm just mad about Fourteen
She's just mad about me

[Refrain]

Born high forever to fly
Wind velocity nil
Wanna high forever to fly
If you want your cup our fill

[Refrain]

(So mellow, he's so yellow)

Electrical banana
Is gonna be a sudden craze
Electrical banana
Is bound to be the very next phase

They call it mellow yellow
(Quite rightly)
They call me mellow yellow
(Quite rightly)
They call me mellow yellow

Saffron - yeah
I'm just mad about her
I'm just mad about Saffron
She's just mad about me

[Refrain]

(Oh so yellow, oh so mellow

Can any of you cool people explain to me what the fuck he's talking about?

In the warm hold of your loving mind.

And to take your hand, along the sand,
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind.

And everywhere I'd look, your eyes I'd find.

For me to love you now,
Would be the sweetest thing, 'twould make me sing,
Ah, but I may as well, try and catch the wind.

When rain has hung the leaves with tears,
I want you near, to kill my fears
To help me to leave all my blues behind.

For standin' in your heart,
Is where I want to be, and I long to be,
Ah, but I may as well, try and catch the wind.

It's about smoking the "scrapings" inside a banana peel to get high... all Donovan songs are about getting or being high... or girls...!!!

Donovan debunked the smoking bit quite a number years ago and said it definitely was not about that.

It is the dildo and nothing more.

Wrong!!! Donovan tried to re~tool the mythos about the song becuz he sold the rights for a TV commercial, more than once as a matter of fact... most recently for a GAP add (ironic since PaulO is contributing here, HA HA HA). Don't believe evrything ya read in Wikipedia, it is a very poor source. If ya read the lines carefully, the song is FULL of 1960s drug references, such as the use of the word ELECTRIC/ELECTRICAL (a HUGE 60s buzz word for gettin buzzed), Saffron, which is a spice that is used as a drug, "Born high, forever to fly..." C'MON, ya gotta be fuckin' kidding me???!!!??? I guess ya hadda BE THERE to REALLY know!!!

I was liked 'Season of the Witch' best. There is a great version by Al Kooper and Mike Bloomfield from 12/13/68 Fillmore East that is just amazing. It's available on i-tunes and is far better than Donavon.

Diablo - Thank you for the lyrics. They will help.

Bobo - Thanks for the single cover. It's hilarious.

And anyone who doesn't think it's about getting high ... sheesh. (Which is why it was hilarious in the ads for the Gap.)

I will say this as a caveat, The vast majority psychedelic songs are about getting high. I believe Mellow Yellow is def. a drug song but there is a subplot if you will about a yellow vibrating dildo whatchamacallitt.
Either way its not to bad a song to get stuck in your head.
Saffron is a pretty name for a girl.

Well I am a hypo-geek and I liked both B5 and Star Trek (TNG and DS9) and B5 killed better then ST.

Bill Mumy also was in an episode on ST-DS9. So he covered ALL the sci-fi bases here!

just something I found mildly humorous.

I can watch reruns of Bab-5 until my eyes bleed, but can only watch certain ep's of TNG.

You guys miss the most memorable thing Mumy did back in the day, the memory of which still gives me a chuckle.

(I am also aware how faulty a memory so old can be, si I hope I'm getting it right)

The way I remember it, when they came back for another season of Lost In Space, Mumy had turned into a flower child and showed up with hair damned near to his waist and refused to cut it and the execs went apeshit over it...

There was a lot of that back then, I think Peter Tork did the same thing..........

They played it as part of Tuesday's "Three at Three" contest on the station I listen to (and now everyone in the NYC broadcast area knows that I'm a loser) and it really bothered me.

Thanks to Diablo (I think), I can now safely say it's out of my head.

But, it's somehow dislodged Fish Heads .... I can't win.

LALENA
Donovan

When the sun goes to bed
That's the time you raise your head
That's your lot in life, Lalea
Can't blame ya, Lalea.
Arty tart, ladeda,
Can your part get much sadder ?
That's your lot in life, Lalea.
Can't blame ya, Lalea.
Run your hand through your hair,
Paint your face with despair.
That's your lot in life, Lalea
Can't blame ya, Lalea.
When the sun goes to bed
That's the time you raise your head.
That's your lot in life, Lalea
I can't blame ya, Lalea.
Arty tart, oh so ladeda,
Can your part ever get, ever get much sadder ?
That's your lot in life, Lalea.
I can't blame ya, Lalea, no, no, no, Lalea,
Oh, Lalea.

"Catch the Wind" is an incredible song. I never appreciated Donovan when I was younger. Even viewed him with a sense of disdain due to the ass-whupping he got from Bob Dylan in "Don't Look Back". However, in revisiting his work, I find myself totally getting into it.

But the psychedelic flower-child shit I can do without.

BUMPED!

The radio is evil.

They played a block of Donovan songs.

It wouldn't be so bad if they'd pulled a few more off the back wall, but no, they had to go with Mellow Yellow.

I'm just mad about Saffron;
She's just mad about me.
I'm just mad about Saffron;
Saffron's wild about me ...
They call me Mellow Yellow (quite rightly) ...
