View Full Version : My Visit to the Ron and Fez Show

Well, today I treated myself to something that I have been wanting to do for the longest time - I visited the Ron and Fez show! I woke up this morning, planning to get my ashes at St. Pat's and said, "hey silly goose - go see an AFRO show!" Weeeeeeeell, that didn't happen, i got in late and missed O&A - but I did see both of those men walk out as the politely said to me, "Hello, gentleman, have a good day!" I blushed like a douche and said the same thing back. I walked in, but was told to come back at 1 (2hrs later), which was cool, because I went and got a sammich and took a nice stroll through Central Park. I came back to the studio . . my oh my!
My first meeting with the stars was Master Po - looking like a manly man! He shook my hand and was impressed with my handshake and I blushed like a douche again. He showed me directly to the benches where I could see the great Ron and Fez show already in progress! I have to say that the studio is great looking and just a great atmosphere for the show. In studio are the buddies and ESD. As I listen with glee, I am asked a few times if I would like a beverage and if I am comfortable - to which I reply, "Of course! Thank you for asking!" (remember, I am excited 'cause I am a douche!) Before I know it, the buddies are taking a break! Oh my, I cant believe it, they are coming out! I am the only one on the bleachers - they have to talk to me, right? Oh please! Well, my friends, dreams came true!
The good gentleman, Ron Bennington Extraordinaire, comes out, shakes my hand, and asks a little bit about me. I couldn't tell you how great it was, if only for the short time. I told him I represent RonFez.net and gave my screen name ( I always represent US, plus, he seemed intrigued by my board name, almost like he was aware of it! again, wishful thinking) and he was really happy that I was there. Ohhhhh, the happiness that was brought to my face, like a little boy seeing elephants crap tons at the circus! Alas, as fast as it came, the moment left. But, just wait, who comes right out of the studio as Ron Bennington Extraordinaire departs - why ESD! I introduce myself, and he couldn't have been more polite, and really cared that I was watching the show, and even offered to get me a drink (Casey is a lucky girl!) He made sure that I was comfortable and enjoying the show - what a great guy! As he goes, the one and only, Fez Whatley came out, intro'ed himself, and made sure that I was comfortable as well. I must say that I have never seen the a larger group of people making sure that one fan was happy and satisfied! It really was surprising and a treat. As I watch the show, they touched on great subjects, and at one point, Fez got a bit teary-eyed. I felt his pain and fears of "what if there isn't something after now, after I die, what if there is no heaven?". And you know what, I have a new found respect for the show! Ron Bennington Extraordinaire using his comedy and whit to help a friend who is second guessing himself, - and to watch it something completely different than listening to it. Watching, you really see, not just person helping person, man helping man, but a friend helping a friend who is in need. To watch Fez show his feelings is something that should be held sacred to all that listen, he gives all that he truly is to the show, and we all should respect it and be more like Fez Whatley in our daily life. Listening to ESD trying to help a situation that is less that what they wish, it was really something to see him try to step up and give 110% so another can get just a little more. It was a heart-felt show. As the show ended, I let myself slip out without letting any of our radio legends or anyone else know that I was gone. I decided against taking pictures, or saying goodbye, and just wanted to keep the image of a radio show that is more than a show. Ron & Fez show is a radio show with great laughs, friendship, tough questions, and heart.
All I can say is that if you are in New York City, and you a fan of Ron and Fez, please, go see the show, and you will feel a great appreciation for everything they do. Ron and Fez show is something to behold.
Thank you, Ron and Fez!

There's some positivity!
I have to little of an attention span to read the whole thing, but glad you enjoyed the visit. Did you bring Ronnie B any cigars? :smoke:
I got to see the DC show over the summer and it was an amazing experience. When I finally make it to NYC, I will definitely stop in to the studio.

well, i would send an email 2-4 days before you visit, unless you are coming for vaca or something, then send a week in advance. i personally didnt have show any id or sign anything, but i was the only one in the studio until the end of the show. also, you can only be in the studio from 1-3, they like to keep the 12-1 just for our buddies, which i have no problem with. i live close enough that i can take the train in and then walk. god, it was great!

Thank you for passing on the details WC. Very informative and cool.
I'm sometimes a bit wary of RF.net messageboard posts/ers that seem influenced by off-air stuff,
but by far, it adds tremendously to my overall enjoyment of the R+F experience to hear about the always incredibly gracious reception of fans.

well, i think the reason that there wasn't so many people was because it was ash wednesday. they do ask people to come back at 1, that may turn some people away, but i dont think that could be it. well, the bleachers are like a yard and a half from the big glass wall and then you see straight into the studio. the desk is positioned so it is a bit hard to see everyone. like, i saw ron and the back of dave well, but didnt see fez at all from where i sat. but like i said, they are nice enough to come out during breaks and talk to you.
good for you, i'm so jealous but happy that you made it in to the show
maybe someday i'll get there
in the mean time i'l have to settle for wearing my, "my buddy wampus went to the ron and fez show, and all i got was this lousy t-shirt" t-shirt

Great synposis buddy! I've made it to O&A in the old studio, but I never got a chance to go to Ron and Fez. Now I'm trying to work out possibly heading there in the next 2 weeks. I (like lil Jimmy) got into the whole taking a picture with people thing. So far I got Opie, Anthony, Fez, Jimmy, Florentine, Club Soda Kenny, Patrice, Louis CK, Bob Kelly, Vos, Henry Rollins, and Chazz Palmentieri.. I'd love to get a pic with Ron.

The times I have visited the show, everybody has been great, but Dave has been really great and nice to me there and at the two board events I went to in NYC. He really is a great guy.
I know that a lot times I post some comments about ESD on the listening thread. I always try to say ESD v. Dave, because I'm not sure how much of it is a bit, and how much isn't. Even if the on air persona is all him, my comments are intended with no ill will towards him.
The guy is a great guy, and has been incredible for this show.

not only was it interesting to see the workings of the show, trying to find out what would be considered a bit, and what would be the real conversations (those seem to be more easily pointed out), but to see how all of the work together. i found it to be something amazing. and i must say that the personalities def. do match how they act off the air. ron was nice, but acted like a man; fez, corgial, but left a mystery for me to solve; Dave, zainy, but a gracious host; . . . . . .and earl . . . . .
Ron & Fez show is a radio show with great laughs, friendship, tough questions, and heart.
I'm so glad you finally got a chance to see the boys live in action Wampus; it's something to behold indeed. When you see the facial expressions that go with the comedy it's that much funnier.
And as for the above quote, I couldn't agree more. I've always said that at it's best RonFez.net is a reflection of the show, and your words could apply here as well.

yeah, it was a great experience i plan to relive. its great to see the work and the physical effort that they put out while on air, which only shows how dedicated they are to their craft. i will always believe that RonFez.net is a mirror of what the show really is. and, furthermore, i hate when people say that this message board is dying and that we should all abandon ship, never return, and worse, go to other message boards. FOR SHAME!
instead of becoming ruins, like others have said - i propose this:
Let there be a RonFez.net Renaissance! Let us revive and thrive! That's what I say!
