I absolutely love tomatoes, cooked, uncooked, with any meal or as a meal, it doesn't matter. Lately I've been eating the small vine ripe ones like an apple and it is sooo good. Is this strange and does anyone else enjoy fresh tomatoey goodness as much as I do?

As a kid I loved those tomatos which we called cherry tomatos. As an adult I have lost complete interest in the taste of all tomatos. I hate the texture and taste. I do still enjoy ketchup though.

I am firmly on board that there are few pleasures in the gardan that can rival plucking a ripe, plump, heirloom Brandywine tomatoe off the vine and sinking your teeth into it.

In the middle of February, however, tomatoes only disappoint to a point that I almost cry.

I don't know where they came from but the ones I had yesterday were delicious.

tomata and onion salad
bruschetta

are a couple favorites.

in 45 years i've found nothing tastes better than a "home garden grown" jersey beefsteak tomata

I've seen people eat tomatoes like apples, and I have to say, it is very gross to watch. But tomatoes on a bruscetta is a meal in itself, appetizers be damned.

I like eating tomatoes that way, but i will lick the surface and put a little salt on where i am going to bite into.

Sure blame the tomatoes. Try eliminating those glasses of bacon grease you've grown fond of and you'll be all better.

I would love to even be able to smell a tomato plant right now.

I love eating tomatoes like apples, but only if they are home grown and fresh off the vine.

tomatoes might be the most vile fruit ive ever seen and/or tasted. people that eat them are equally vile.

sauces and condiments that are made out of tomatoes are alright by me.

Funny you should mention that. I usually put apple sauce on my spaghetti.

Even the so called "vine ripened" tomatos are still picked when they're a little green. The reality is you just can't ship fully ripe tomatos without bruising the shit out of them and turning them to mush. Thats why your backyard garden vine ripened tomato is better than anything you'll ever buy, unless you travel to a farm stand and buy them direct from a grower. Its also a good reason to buy whatever is fresh, and whatever is local.

I love tomatoes, but can't eat them like an apple - they are usually too juicy. I would not be opposed to eating them like an apple if they weren't quite as messy.

One of my culinary anomalies is that while I love cooked tomatoes in almost any form -- stewed tomatoes, tomato sauces, whatever -- I have a very hard time eating raw tomatoes. I can stand them on a sandwich, but I doubt I could choke down a slice of raw tomato.

My dad would always tell me about when he was a kid growing up in Hillside how he would go on picnics with his family and he would eat a tomato like an apple.

I for one can't do it. I like tomato sauce, but the consistency of it bothers me tremendously. Even certain sauces with pieces of tomato botther me. I have to be in the mood for ketchup, but at times I will partake, but only slightly.

Love me a good tomater. Thing that grosses me out, are the people that put sugar on them. But I grew up in rural Pa. where people did such wierd things.

There is NOTHING better than biting into a delicious tomato...unfortunately for me - our grocery stores only sell hydroponic and there's only ONE thing that I like grown hydroponically....oh wait, we're not talking about that...

Roseblood, next time you get a delicous bunch of 'maters - give me a call! I will totally eat your tomatoes...RAW!
