with all apologies to chris the cop, but why are cops such fucking assholes?

i just got pulled over for having my license plate covered with snow during A FUCKING SNOWSTORM! then i had to freeze my balls off and conduct field sobriety tests (which i passed) on snow covered roads. how can a cop get a good read of someones balance when you are tripping over chunks of ice and slush in the road? god i fucking hate cops.

The real blame should be directed at the douchebag politicians who pass the laws the Cops have to enforce. Many of which they personally don't agree with, but they have to do their jobs whether they like the laws or not. They're just following orders, like the rest of the stormtroopers.

BTW-That last line was a joke, Chris.

not really my point, but i thought that was covered with the sobriety tests. i had five beers over a four hour period so i was well under the legal limit. i would understand if i got pulled over for swerving or reckless driving or something along those lines, but i was driving 25 in a 35 and in my lane. the only reason i was pulled over was because my plates were covered in snow.

I was pulled over on my way to church last sunday for expired plates.

I had the old plates on and the new ones in the rear window. But I had had the flu and bronchitis all week, not to mention having been laid off from my job so being outside in the cold and applying the new plates i had gotten just a few days prior was not priority 1.

After hearing all of this and seeing me break down the cop STILL gave me a ticket for 'improper display' of the plates.

A think a warning would have done the trick. Jerk.

5 in 4 hours is under, but i wouldn't call it "well" under the limit. i'd rather they make you waste a few minutes to keep the rest of us safe.

i wasn't pulled over for unsafe driving. like i said, id understand if i was driving recklessly, but i wasn't. i was pulled over for having a plate covered with snow. i had no problem with doing the sobriety tests, i had informed the cop i had a few beers during the night so i expected them. my only complaint about those is how can they get a read on someone's balance when they have to walk a "line" in ice and slush?

didn't say he wasn't. i just think it was reasonable for them to test him. cost to him - a few wasted minutes. possible savings to society if he had been worse - who knows?

As an extremly active NYC police officer with nearly 1000 arrets, I can proudly admit that only two of those arrests were for DWI.. The only reason those were made is because one resulted in a serious physical injury.. And the other unfortunately resulted in the death of another..As a rule my partner and I ( he's a drunk) will do what we can to get a drunk off the road and into their apartment safely (ask Dwight Gooden)..Him and I both know that sometimes good people find themselves in sticky situations.. The big difference between us and most all other cops is, we can find a legit arrest almost without leaving the station house block. In addition to our own high standards for arrests ( D Felony or better)..The State affords the officer full descretion..No matter what line of shit the cop gives you, he NEVER has to issue the summons.. It's A 1-8-7 on an undercover cop..

The Traffic Regulations in NYS, are up to the descrestion of the cop 98% of the time.. Don't believe that horse shit they peddle..Fuck the police!

just like all corporations are greedy?

Although I never stated that 'all corporations are greedy' they are indeed. Profit is the motivating factor of any corporation, and the old saying "what's bad for the worker is good for business" does indeed ring true.

Obviously some corporations have their place. There are no small businesses mass producing automobiles, for example. But I'm telling you that I go to the guy around the corner every time I buy a bottle of wine or booze, and I gladly pay $21.99 instead of going to one of those corporate giants where I'd pay $18.99 or $19.99.

Saving 2 or 3 bucks isn't that important to me, but helping a guy who has a wife and three kids to feed is.

By the way unless you're 250+ lbs 5 beers in 2 hours is pushing it.

I've posted this before and if I remember the calculations correctly it takes 3.6 beers over an hour and 1 every hour after that to get a man of 185 lbs legally drunk ( and that was at the old .10 limit ).

That is NY for you.

My county runs DWI night, where a pair of officers ride in one car, they pull people over for the slightest traffic infraction in order to get in the door for a DWI.

There is something that my friend was taught that murders the standard tests in terms of cause for a brethalyzer... he does something with a pen and if your eyes do something he knows you have been drinking. He said that he has NEVER had someone fail that screen and be sober, but he has had people pass that and then blow a .20.....

My friend(dumb ass) got caught by the dwi car, cops were about to leave him after a pull over, and then the one cop on the passenger side noticed beer coming from under the driver seat, where he had pushed his can after being lit up....

Earth that test is called Horizontal/Vertical gaze Nystagmus ( mispelling that word I think ).

As far as I know it's standard practice for most field sobriety tests ( at least it was when I was in the Louisiana State Police Academt back in '97 ).

It basically works on the concept that you're eyes will always try and center themselves and when they have you stare at the pen the way you eyes bounce, or don't bounce, while they try to readjust is a sign of how intoxicated you are.

The more they bounce the more in the bag you are.

I believe that the vertical test is a better indicator of narcotic use but I'm not sure why that is.

Back when I was in we weren't allowed to use handheld breathalyzers and relied on three tests ( walk and turn, one leg count w/ arms extended and the gaze ) to make a determination whether to make an arrest.

At that point they were brought to blow in a full size breathalyzer to get an actual BAC.

No fooling the gaze ot Intoxilyzer 5000.
