It just seems like a safe answer. I dont purport to understand the complexities of life, both natural and spiritual- which is why i wouldnt be suprised that anyone belives in a god or whatever.

Just to add one thing...the answer to what holds the universe, people, atoms and time together is thought. I don't think it's too far fetched to believe that thought will be seen as an energy source in the future. Well here is my contribution then. You are being a prick that is obsessing over something that doesn't matter. I prefer to have fun in the threads and not try to get too into things that in the long run are meaningless. As I said earlier the suprise was more about people who believe in the literal word of the bible. Natrual truths which you say is where science ends, was a spiritual question in many early philosophers writings when trying to find how they connected to life. These men studied everything, current scientists are just much more focused in a tiny area so it isn't so weird that someone who focuses on a certain field is suprised by so many people that believe in other things.

I was trying to get on but lost my signal. I have a question for you Mike. When you were talking on the show about life on other planets you kept referring to the " life supporting conditions".
My issue with this is why do you think the conditions would NOT be life supporting? Maybe Jupiter is made of gas giants that just float. Maybe there is a small bacteria that lives in some crevasse on the mountains of Mars. I just find it a little arrogant ( not you but the school of thought) to have this Earthcentric way of looking at things. I'm sure you read The Andromeda Strain that makes that argument far better than I can. I would just be interested to hear what you and everyone else had to say on the subject.

I was trying to get on but lost my signal. I have a question for you Mike. When you were talking on the show about life on other planets you kept referring to the " life supporting conditions".
My issue with this is why do you think the conditions would NOT be life supporting? Maybe Jupiter is made of gas giants that just float. Maybe there is a small bacteria that lives in some crevasse on the mountains of Mars. I just find it a little arrogant ( not you but the school of thought) to have this Earthcentric way of looking at things. I'm sure you read The Andromeda Strain that makes that argument far better than I can. I would just be interested to hear what you and everyone else had to say on the subject.

Sagan's Cosmos envisions great flying 'Floaters'; living balloons being preyed upon by some manta ray looking thing that rides the thermals of Jupiter. If you havent read it or seen the series; highly recommended.

Were very earthcentric. Our biases are that life will look like sci-fi movies, things with heads and arms and legs and shiny clothing. We werent sure what conditions supported life as we know it on earth, but now know life survives in conditions previously thought impossible. We find life in the artic permafrost, we find life at the bottom of ocean with crushing pressures and no light; animals that were just discovering/figuring out.

Oh yeah on the Andromeda Strain, crystal based life forms. Awesome. Read it/saw the movie.
