PITTSBURGH - Vicki Van Meter, who made headlines in the 1990s for piloting a plane across the country at age 11 and from the U.S. to Europe at age 12, has died, an apparent suicide. She was 26 (http://www.bostonherald.com/news/obituaries/general/view.bg?articleid=1082030&srvc=rss).

Van Meter was celebrated in 1993 and 1994 when she made her cross-country and trans-Atlantic flights accompanied only by a flight instructor. Her instructors said she was at the controls during the entirety of both trips.

First of all, great idea for a thread sailor!
Second of all, from your article...
Ozzie Guillen, a fellow Venezuelan, expressed his feeling before a game in Cleveland.
"It's sad," Guillen said. "A lot of people are going to be shocked. He was a good man. He had a lot of ups and downs in his career. He was 33. It was so early in his life to die. I wish the best to his family. The news went around the country pretty fast."

Thomas McHale, a former offensive lineman with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was found dead in a friend's home Sunday morning. He was 45.
According to the Tampa Tribune's web site, authorities do not believe foul play was involved in McHale's death.
The medical examiner will determine the cause of McHale's death, with the results of toxicology tests taking up to six weeks, the web site reported.
Deputies from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office received a call from an unidentified friend of McHale at 9:19 a.m. Sunday
McHale played for the Buccaneers for six seasons (1987-1992) and had stints with a couple of other teams before retiring in 1995.

Ernst Stuhlinger, 94, who played a key role in developing America's space program, has died.
Dr. Stuhlinger, who died Sunday, had been in failing health and missed the 50th anniversary of America in space in February. His last public appearance was in December, when he spoke on his 50 years of work in rocket programs, said Ed Buckbee, a former director of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala.
Dr. Stuhlinger served as chief scientist for Wernher von Braun and was among the group of German scientists who moved with him to Huntsville in 1950 when the Army established the Ordnance Missile Laboratories.
Ralph Petroff, who helped lead efforts to restore the Space and Rocket Center's original Saturn 5 rocket, said Dr. Stuhlinger's brilliance was unmatched. In the 1950s, he conceived what would eventually become the Hubble Space Telescope. He also spent years exploring the possibilities of electric propulsion ion engines for deep space travel. - AP

Chuck Stobbs; Senators Pitcher in 1950s (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/07/24/AR2008072403791.html)
As a journeyman left-hander for the woeful Washington Senators of the 1950s, Chuck Stobbs had few moments of shining glory. He won 15 games for the lowly Nats in 1956 but was best known for throwing a pitch that might have traveled farther than any other baseball in big-league history.
On April 17, 1953, in his very first game with the Senators, he gave up a titanic blast to Mickey Mantle of the New York Yankees that soared out of Griffith Stadium and into baseball lore as the longest home run ever hit.
With two outs in the top of the fifth inning and a runner on base, Mr. Stobbs faced Mantle, then 21 and in his third season with the Yankees. Mantle, a switch hitter, was batting right-handed.
Mr. Stobbs's first pitch was low. Mantle hit his second pitch, a chest-high fastball, over the left-center field wall, 391 feet from home plate. The ball flew beyond the final row in the bleachers, 460 feet away, and over a wall 55 feet high. It knocked some black paint off the edge of a National Bohemian beer sign above the wall and kept going.
A press spokesman for the Yankees ran out of the stadium and retrieved the ball from the back yard of a house across the street. He paced off the distance from the outer wall of Griffith Stadium at 105 feet.

Several writers have questioned the accuracy of the distance, but they were not among the 4,206 spectators at Griffith Stadium that day.
My dad pointed this out to me because he went to the rival high school of Stobbs in Norfolk, Va. He said this guy was one of the most amazing athletes to ever come out of Virginia. He was actually a much better quarterback than he was a pitcher, but he didn't go to college.

Evan Tanner, dead at 37.
http://ronfez.net/forums/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=1812986
Former Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight champion Evan Tanner was found dead near Palo Verde, Calif. on Monday. He was 37.
Tanner had trekked into the desert on a journey to “cleanse” himself, according to Douglas Vincitorio of Tanner’s management team. “He went out to the desert to do a ‘cleansing’ as he called it. Kind of like ‘Survivorman.’” These short trips were not new to Tanner, said Vincitorio. It is something that he has done numerous times over the years.
“What we were told is that (Sheriff’s officials who found Tanner) believe his motorcycle had run out of gas, so he went to walk out in like 115- to 118-degree heat,” Vincitorio said. “He was miles away from his camp. That’s where the helicopter found him. Right now, they just think that he succumbed to the heat.”
That sucks.

Leading R&B drummer Earl Palmer dies at 84
37 minutes ago
Leading R&B drummer Earl Palmer, best known for his New Orleans recording sessions with the likes of Fats Domino and Little Richard, died on Friday at his home in Los Angeles at age 84, his family said.
Palmer, who died after a lengthy illness, played on hundreds of hits during a career that ran from the 1940s through the 1970s and earned him an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
His drumming on such hits as Fats Domino's "The Fat Man," Richard's "Tutti Frutti and Smiley Lewis's "I Hear You Knockin"' featured the strong back beat that was his signature and helped transform the lope of rhythm and blues into the full-tilt thrust of rock 'n' roll.
"That song required a strong after-beat throughout the whole piece," Palmer wrote of his work on "The Fat Man" in his 1999 autobiography, "Backbeat -- The Earl Palmer Story."
"With Dixieland you had a strong after-beat only after you got to the shout last chorus," he said. "It was sort of a new approach to rhythm music."
Palmer also played drums on Domino's "I'm Walkin,"' the Righteous Brothers' "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin,"' Ike and Tina Turner's "River Deep, Mountain High," and Sam Cooke's "Twistin' the Night Away."
His handiwork behind the drums was featured as well on a number of popular television themes, including "The Odd Couple," "77 Sunset Strip" and "The Brady Bunch."
In addition to his collaboration with R&B and blues artists in New Orleans, Palmer was a highly sought-after session player for recording stars ranging from Frank Sinatra and Sarah Vaughan to Elvis Costello, Ray Charles, Dizzie Gillespie and Count Basie.

Last of Steinways to run piano-maker dies at 93
15 hours ago
NEW YORK (AP) — Henry Z. Steinway, the great-grandson of the founder of the legendary piano-making company his family started in 1853, is dead. He was 93.
Susan Steinway, his daughter, confirmed that her father died on Thursday in Manhattan.
Henry Zeigler Steinway was the last of his family to run the company founded by Henry Engelhard Steinway. He sold it to CBS Corporation in 1977.
Steinway retired at 65, but he continued to visit the Steinway Hall in Manhattan until a few months ago.
President Bush presented Steinway with the National Medal of Arts in 2007.
The handcrafted pianos were the instruments of choice for such greats as Sergei Rachmaninoff, Vladimir Horowitz and Artur Rubinstein.
CBS sold Steinway in 1985 to what was then a band-instrument manufacturer. That company went public in 1998 and is now known as Steinway Musical Instruments.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - House Peters Jr., a TV actor who became the original Mr. Clean in Proctor & Gamble's commercials for household cleaners, died Wednesday. He was 92.
Peters died of pneumonia at the Motion Picture and Television Fund Hospital in Los Angeles, said his son, Jon Peters.
The elder Peters' most memorable role came as Mr. Clean - a muscular man with a bald head, a hoop earring and a no-nonsense attitude toward dirt and grime. From the late 1950s and into the early 1960s, Peters Jr. helped advertise the famous household cleaner with the trademark jingle, "Mr. Clean, Mr. Clean."
Peters Jr. played many supporting roles through his career, including working with Roy Rogers and Gene Autry on their television shows. He also appeared in "Perry Mason,""Gunsmoke,""The Twilight Zone" and "Lassie."
"He always played the heavy," Jon Peters said, referring to his father's customary roles as a villain or brawny character. "Even though he wasn't happy about being cast in those roles, he worked really hard at it."
His father's acting career spanned 1935-1967, according to his Web site. He also wrote an autobiography, "Another Side of Hollywood," in which he describes growing up the son of an actress and silent film actor in Beverly Hills. His father, Robert House Peters Sr., has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Son pleaded guilty in May to felony vandalism, which required him to give a DNA sample — which eventually connected him to the rape, police say.

Yellow Ranger Trini from Might Morphin' Power Rangers Dead (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thuy_Trang#Death)
http://myriah18630.tripod.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/thuy7.jpg
Trang died at the age of 27 in a car accident on September 3, 2001 near San Francisco, California. She and former actress/model Angela Rockwood-Nguyen, to whom Trang was to be a bridesmaid later that year, were passengers in a car traveling on Interstate 5 between San Francisco and Los Angeles. They were returning from visiting Angela's planned maid of honor when the driver (another of Angela's bridesmaids) of the vehicle she was riding in lost control. The car swerved violently across the road before hitting the roadside rock face and flipping several times before hitting the safety rail and plunging over the bank.
Rockwood-Nguyen, who has claimed both that she was[1] and was not[2] wearing a seat belt in different interviews, survived despite being thrown out of the vehicle through a window before its final impact; as a result, however, she is now quadriplegic. Trang, who was believed not to have worn a seat belt, died from the injuries she sustained. The driver did not suffer any lasting injuries but it has not been confirmed whether she was wearing a seatbelt or not.
The episode "Circuit Unsure" of Power Rangers: Time Force was dedicated to her memory.
Trang was cremated a week later on September 10, 2001; her ashes are interred at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California.
Died right before her wedding. Sucks.

Gidget Gein (aka Brad Stewart), the original bass player for Marilyn Manson, has died from a drug overdose at his Burbank home.
Stewart was with the original Manson band but kicked out and was replaced by Twiggy Ramirez because of his drug use at the time.
He went on to form The Dali Gaggers after Manson.
Stewart used the Marilyn Manson format of ‘Actress name’ ‘Serial killer’ name to come up with Gidget Gein. Gidget was from the Sally Field TV character of the 60s, Gein was named after killer Ed Gein.

Mothers of Invention drummer Jimmy Carl Black dies (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5gWECoT9A2TwAEr0SfYsUO8q9pEtwD948QSK80)
He was playing in the Soul Giants in Los Angeles in 1964 when the group recruited Zappa.
"He joined the band and three days later he took it over," Black once said.
Zappa changed the group's name and, according to Black, boasted that "if you guys learn my music, I'll make you rich and famous."
"He took care of half of that promise, because I'm damn sure I didn't get rich," Black recalled.
He credited Zappa, who died in 1993, with introducing him to modern classical music and teaching him complex rhythms.
Black appeared on Mothers albums including "Freak Out," "Cruising with Ruben and the Jets" and "Burnt Weenie Sandwich." He played trumpet as well as drumming on the 1968 album "We're Only In It for the Money," and also introduced his catchphrase: "Hi boys and girls, I'm Jimmy Carl Black, I'm the Indian of the group."

Detroit Rocker Nathaniel Mayer Dies At 64

Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
Veteran Detroit soul/rock artist Nathaniel Mayer died Saturday (Nov. 1) in his hometown after a series of strokes. He was 64.
Mayer is best known for the 1962 hit "Village of Love," which he recorded for local label Fortune Records. But he vanished from the music scene in the late 1960s, and save for a one-off 1980 single, did not return to active duty until 2002, when he began performing again.
In 2004, Mayer released "I Just Want To Be Held" via Fat Possum Records. Another new album, "Why Don't You Give It To Me," appeared in 2007 via Alive Records, with assistance from members of the Black Keys, Dirtbombs, the Sights and Outrageous Cherry.

Tony Reedus, 49, top jazz drummer
Wednesday, November 19, 2008
BY ZAN STEWART
Star-Ledger Staff
A man with a big heart and a big beat, drummer Tony Reedus cared for other people the way he cared about making a band swing.
"He was true blue, he'd do anything for you," said pianist Mulgrew Miller, who knew Mr. Reedus as a youth in Memphis, where the drummer was born, and later employed him in his trio in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
"He was supersensitive," said his wife, violinist Jenise Grice-Reedus. "He'd see a person who was sad and would go talk to that person, and would have another friend for life."
"He was a funny guy," said organist and pianist Mike LeDonne, with whom Mr. Reedus regularly performed. "Just a sweetheart, that's what Tony Reedus was, and great to work with."
Mr. Reedus died Sunday of a pulmonary embolism en route by ambulance to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in the Richmond Hill section of Queens. He had collapsed at John F. Kennedy International Airport after getting off an American Airlines flight from Bologna, Italy, where he had been performing with LeDonne. He was 49.
Mr. Reedus lived in Irvington with his wife and their 5-year-old daughter, Cameron. He had been troubled with undetermined gastrointestinal issues since August.
A superb musician, Mr. Reedus picked up the drums when he was 13 and broke into the upper echelon of jazz just seven years later, performing and recording with innovative trumpeter Woody Shaw. In a story in The Star-Ledger in 2006, he likened joining Shaw to a baseball player "going from single-A to the Show."
"It was music on such a high level," said Mr. Reedus.
He played on Shaw's albums "United" (Columbia) and "Master of the Art" (Elektra/Musician).
Mr. Reedus also played and recorded with such masters as trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, vibraphonist Milt Jackson, saxophonist Benny Golson, and guitarist Dave Stryker. Mr. Reedus also was a leader who made three solo albums.
Mr. Reedus was noted for his all-around drum kit acumen -- in particular, his ride cymbal beat. "He had a real wide beat, and his feel on the cymbal was unique," said Stryker, whose organ trio included Mr. Reedus for several years. "He felt great to play with, just really swinging, dancing."
Of the importance of that beat, Mr. Reedus said in 2006, "It's a heavy feeling that makes people want to pat their feet, sway back and forth. When people come to see you play, they want to escape, they want to feel good. Music is a celebration of life that comes from the heart."
Mr. Reedus returned to college in the middle of his career, earning a B.A. in music from Rutgers University-New Brunswick in 2005. "The day he graduated was one of the happiest days of his life," said Grice-Reedus, who plays with the Garden State Philharmonic and the Plainfield Symphony and leads the Ebony String Quartet.
Another was the birth of his daughter. "He loved being a father, being married," said Stryker.
Linda Grice, Mr. Reedus' mother-in-law, said: "He loved his family; he took good care of my daughter and my granddaughter."
Mr. Reedus' survivors include his brothers Chris and Keith, both of Memphis.
A visitation will be held Sunday at 2 p.m., with services at 4 p.m., at the Prospect Presbyterian Church, 646 Prospect St., Maplewood. More information is available by calling (973) 763-8955 or visiting the church's website (prospectchurch.org).

Macaulay Culkin's Sister Killed in Traffic Accident
By Ken Lee
Originally posted Thursday December 11, 2008 11:30 AM EST
Macaulay Culkin's sister, Dakota, was struck and killed by a car in Los Angeles this week, police confirm.
The 29-year-old stepped in front of a car in West L.A. just before 11 p.m. on Tuesday and was rushed to UCLA hospital with massive head trauma, according to LAPD spokesman Richard French. She died the following day.
"The driver stopped, rendered aid, and identified himself as required by law," said French. "Detectives determined that the driver was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol and that no crime was committed."
Macaulay Culkin, 28, has five other siblings: Shane, 32, Kieran, 26, Quinn, 24, Christian, 21, and Rory, 19.
"This is a terrible tragic accident," said the actor's rep, Michelle Bega. "We ask that the media respect the family's privacy during this difficult time."
The accident was first reported by TMZ.com.

Joe Ades - Union Square Peeler Guy
http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2009/02/03/nyregion/03ades_600.JPG
February 3, 2009
His Stage, the Street; His Rapier, a Peeler
By JAMES BARRON
Somehow, Joe Ades got people’s attention as the crowds swirled by at the Union Square Greenmarket, on their way to eyeing and buying the produce. He was the white-haired man with the British accent, the expensive European suits and shirts — the man selling the $5 peeler. For carrots. Or potatoes.
“He talked constantly,” said Clover Vail, an artist.
“He was very excited about carrots,” said Sara Mason, a merchandise assistant at Barnes & Noble.
“He made it look really fun,” said Julie Worden, who dances with the Mark Morris Dance Company.
“The voice — you couldn’t help but notice it,” said Gordon Crandall, a mathematician who teaches at La Guardia Community College.
His was a particular kind of street theater in a city that delights in in-your-face characters who are, and are not, what they seem. For he was the sidewalk pitchman with the Upper East Side apartment. The sidewalk pitchman who was a regular at expensive East Side restaurants, where no one believed his answer to the “So what do you do?” question: “I sell potato peelers on the street.” Mr. Ades (pronounced AH-dess) died on Sunday at 75, said his daughter, Ruth Ades Laurent of Manhattan. She said he never talked about how many peelers he sold in a year, or how many carrots he had sliced up during demonstrations. She said he stashed his inventory in what had been the maid’s room of the apartment.
There were those at the Greenmarket who had heard the spiel, and heard the whispers. “Supposedly his wife is mega-mega-rich — we’ve done fashion shoots in that building,” said Rose-Marie Swift, a makeup artist, as she shopped at the Greenmarket on Monday.
The facts? He was a widower. The apartment had been his wife’s — his fourth wife’s. And besides Ms. Laurent, he is survived by two sons, Sam, of Sydney, Australia, and David, of Byron Bay, Australia; two brothers, Dennis, of Toronto, and Andre, of Sydney; a sister, Vida, of Toronto; and three granddaughters.
He had been selling things during his fourth marriage, and his third, his second and his first. David Hughes, the operations manager at the Greenmarket, said that Mr. Ades had been a fixture on the edges of the market for years. (He stayed on the fringes because he never obtained a permit to do business there, and if he staked out a spot too close to the vendors, someone would complain and security guards would be alerted.)
First he sold children’s books, Mr. Hughes said. “Then he moved into potato peelers,” he said. “He told me books were too heavy to carry around.” The Greenmarket was not his only open-air stage; he had places near Radio City Music Hall and in Brooklyn that he liked, Ms. Laurent said.
She said that he had learned the tricks of salesmanship as a teenager in Manchester, England. “He’d sold all kinds of things from when he was 15 and saw the old-time English grafters, I guess here you’d call them pitchmen,” Ms. Laurent said.
He sold linens, textiles, jewelry and toys, and broadened his inventory when he went to Australia in the 1970s. “We had a huge truck that we sold off the back of,” recalled Ms. Laurent, who worked with him, selling clock radios, cassette players and electrical appliances along with other household goods.
He followed Ms. Laurent to the United States. “One of his marriages, I guess his third marriage, had broken up,” she said. Making the rounds of state fairs, she said, “he discovered the peeler — someone was selling the peeler and he saw it as a fantastic item for the street.
“He loved the street more than anything.”
It helped that he had a voice like a radio announcer’s. “His voice really carried,” Mr. Hughes said. “Joe would say to me, ‘You have to not be afraid to talk to yourself out loud.’ He said that once he started talking out loud, somebody would stop, and once he had one, he’d have a crowd, and once he had a crowd, he’d sell peelers.”
Like an actor, he had a sense of pacing and timing. Ms. Laurent said that the peeler would slice “practically anything” but that he limited his repertory to carrots and potatoes when selling on the street.
Ms. Laurent said she sometimes went to look for him at the end of the day, but he would have packed up and left after selling out. She could tell where he had been.
“He cleaned up really well,” she said, “but still there were these little shreds of carrots that said, ‘I was here.’ ”

"In 1949, he received his first coaching assignment, as an aide to Durocher with the New York Giants. He was a member of two National League championship clubs (1951, 1954) and one World Series (1954) title team through 1955. According to author Joshua Prager in his 2006 book The Echoing Green, Franks played a critical role in the Giants' Bobby Thomson's famous pennant-winning home run in the 1951 NL playoffs -- Baseball's Shot Heard Round The World. According to Prager, Franks was stationed in the Giants' center-field clubhouse at the Polo Grounds, their home field, stealing the opposing catcher's signs through a telescope and relaying them through second-string catcher Sal Yvars (who was stationed in the bullpen) to the Giants' coaches and hitters. When asked where he was when Bobby Thomson hit his home run, Franks said, in 1996, that he was "doing something for Durocher" at the time."

Michael Landon's eldest son, Mark. (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1611124/20090512/story.jhtml)
The only reason I mention this is because his age intrigued me. He was 60, which is only 12 years younger than Daddy Landon. Turns out he and his little brother were adopted by Michael at the age of seven. But it's still weird. A 19 year old adopting a 7 year old?

I was trying to find her part in the movie, and it seemed that she really didn't have a big part. I always find it odd when a small celebrity dies, the media says they were a star. She wasn't the star in Spiderman 3, not even close. they should have mentioned her in Perfume.

Fred Travalena, the master impressionist and singer whose broad repertoire of voices ranged from Jack Nicholson to Sammy Davis Jr. to Bugs Bunny, has died. He was 66.
Travalena, who began being treated for an aggressive form of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in 2002 and saw the disease return last July after going into remission in 2003, died Sunday at his home in Encino, according to his publicist, Roger Neal. Travalena also was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2003 but had been in complete remission since
Dubbed "The Man of a Thousand Faces" and "Mr. Everybody," Travalena emerged on the national stage as an impressionist in the early 1970s.
Over the next three decades, he was a headliner in Las Vegas, Reno and Atlantic City, performed in concerts around the country, appeared on "The Tonight Show" and other talk shows and starred in his own specials, such as "The Many Faces of Fred Travalena" and "Comedy in the Oval Office."
The boyish-faced entertainer is said to have had a repertoire of more than 360 celebrity, political and cartoon-character voices, including Clint Eastwood, Dr. Ruth Westheimer, Joe Pesci, Robert De Niro, Henry Kissinger, Donald Rumsfeld, Johnny Mathis, Bruce Springsteen and Luciano Pavarotti.
"I've known impressionists who have reached a wall where they can't do any more [voices]," Travalena told the Omaha World Herald in 1996. "I don't have that problem, thank God."
In one part of his act, Travalena physically and vocally "morphed" into all of the U.S. presidents, from John F. Kennedy up to George W. Bush.
He also was known to sing "Have I Told You Lately" in various voices, including Kermit the Frog ("Have I told you lately that I love you"), Katharine Hepburn ("Have I told you there's no one else above you") and Frank Sinatra ("You fill my heart with gladness . . . ")
The imaginative entertainer even did Sinatra imitating Boy George.
Of Italian and Irish heritage, Travalena was born Oct. 6, 1942, in the Bronx, N.Y., and grew up on Long Island.
When it came to impressions, he had an early role model: his father, a onetime entertainer who sang and performed comedy and impressions.
"He got me doing church shows when I was just a little kid," Travalena recalled in a 1998 interview on "The Crier Report" on Fox News Network. "I used to do an impression of [singer] Johnny Ray."
In school, he said, he learned to deal with bullies by imitating a Martian voice or Porky Pig. And he found he could deflect a teacher's question of why he didn't do his homework by making her laugh with his impression of Crazy Guggenheim, the goofy character played on TV by Frank Fontaine during Jackie Gleason's "Joe the Bartender" sketches.
During a stint in the Army's Special Services, Travalena won the All-Army Entertainment Award for best singer and once impersonated President Lyndon Johnson's voice on the base theater's answering machine to announce the movies and show times.
Although he told the New York Times in 1989 that he was "headed for the commercial art field," Travalena said: "That wasn't getting me up in the morning, and I couldn't get show business out of my mind."
At one point after launching his career as a singer, he and his singer wife, Lois, were performing together at Andrews Air Force Base near Washington, D.C.
As recounted in a 1989 New York Times story, Lois surprised her husband by spontaneously asking the audience, "How'd you like to hear Fred do impressions?"
He went on to impersonate Dean Martin, Paul Lynde, Jim Nabors and Presidents Kennedy and Johnson.
"People liked it," he later said.
Travalena reportedly was performing at a resort hotel in the Catskills when impressionist Rich Little was in the audience. After the show, Little congratulated Travalena and later recommended him for a spot in British celebrity journalist David Frost's show at the Riviera in Las Vegas.

I think paying tribute is important but I know we can't start a thread for every dead celebrity. Nobody did one for Harve Presnell and I really liked him. He played a lot of fancy dans when he wa young but when he got old he played crusty cusses. You remember Fargo.

According to Wikipedia, there are only 3 left worldwide...our guy, one in Canada, one in Australia. There's one unverified claim as well, and a guy in Poland who served in the Polish/Soviet War in the early 20s (he counts as a World War One "era" veteran).
