We have a third car which I've listed on Cars.com and locally as well. I've never sold a car to a private party and don't know the first thing about the procedure and closing paperwork/forms.
Can anyone who has done this before give me any info about their experiences and what has to be done to complete a sale?
Thanks.

basically you just need to give the person a reciept. Tech its illegal to take cash though, so make sure they give you like a bank check or something certifide. Other than that, its buy at their own risk. Be fair, but dont let anyone give you any shit
You have to sign the title over to them and it's the buyer's responsibility to pay sales tax on the purchase price. Other than that, there's really nothing else to it.
Good luck.

only take cash. its not illegal to take cash. i have bought and sold a lot of cars in the last few years and I sell them on ebay. i only take cash because a check can bounce and most people dont want to wait for a check to clear before they can pick it up. there has also been case when a check clears and a month or even more they realize it was a stolen check and they take the cash back, out of your account.

Sold the car this morning for a little less than I was asking but I was glad to be rid of it. It was incredibly easy, so thanks againfor the advice.

Thats why you make sure it was a certifide or bank check. Not a personal check fool

They're counterfeiting bank checks and money orders now, banks can't tell they are fake for weeks after you deposit them.

I would say that MAYBE 40% of the time anywhere that I use a 100 bill, they check it for the bar. NEVER has anyone ever even checked a 50, nevermind anything smaller, and they barely check 100's. So you could prob spend counterfiet money most places

When I was in junior high I was accused of trying to use a counterfeit one! I was at the arcade and the change machine wouldn't take my dollar. So I brought it to the attendant and asked for change. He goes in the back room and a few minutes later the mall security guy comes in and starts talking with the attendant. Then he comes over and starts asking me where I got the money which I earned shoveling snow. He tells me he thinks it's counterfeit (that's why he a mall security guard) and tells me to be more careful when I take money from people.
