Im surprised there wasn't something already discussing this other than the listening threads, but i was curious, if people had a favorite podcast from this time around. Im not looking to get into a bashfest of who sucked...there's plenty of that in the listening threads, but i am curious if people liked any of them and why.

I really liked the sleeves thing. Even though i'll confess to not having followed it, i thought the idea was really original, and interesting, and i could listen to his voice for hours. Also, it made for a great drinking game (use the word balloon). I definitely want to DL it and give it a real listen sometime when im not on paltalk and can focus.

Im going to give a tie for first place (yea, i give awards) to Newstyle and Germ. I said it on paltalk, Newstyles voice and flow + Germs attitude is a great combination. This is going to sound wrong, but i know Frank knows what I mean-- i think he is one of the few guys out there that isn't trying to be liked on air, and isn't thinking about what the boards will say when he turns on his mic. Frank, you dont tone yourself down because you're worried what people think. You say things that make me think you're a maniac, and a weirdo, and ironically, thats what makes me end up liking you so much. Also you make no apologies for any of your eccentricities. Dont change.

Most of all, I give major congrats to everyone who had the balls to get in front of us animals and give it a shot, especially Lenay, who went in this knowing that the kind of programming she was going to do wouldnt necessarily be a fit with the 202 listeners.

Anyone who is willing to take the kind of abuse the 202 crowd dishes out has my respect.

edit: oh crap...i spelled crazed show wrong. if anyone wants to fix that..be my guest. i guess i cant edit a poll.

Sleeves hands down. I heard a couple of them but what Sleeves presented was above and beyond.

I gave the DJ Newstyle and Germ Freak show a full listen too and thought it was pretty well done.

But if we have to pick a favorite, it's Sleeves for me.

1.Sleeves
T2.Way Too Hip
T2.DJ New Style
3.Generic Show
4.Boes and Jos
5.Lenay D
6.Crazed

Sleeves was a very refreshing switch and I really enjoyed it.

Lenay put forth a great effort and I thought she met the difficult challenge considering the format she was on.

Way Too Hip and DJ New Style were about the same for me.

Crazed was Crazed cuz he's just a little crazed.

Gotta go with Sleeves. Listened to most of the 6 hours and thought the majority were good, but it was Sleeves podcast that I downloaded from his site and listened to again the next day...

wish I had caught Lenay's

Sleeves

KO Round 1

CrazeD was gr8, he basically gave the cops a confession for murdering people who have made fun of him

Redding is cool, but show had too many people and felt like guys hanging and drinking, cool to be at , not good to follow in radio

Boe and Jos was cool, liked hearing some sports, but I dozed off 20 minutes in to give a full review

Way Too Hip and DJ Newstyle : meh, but good for them following their radio dream

I missed the rest of them

i was too absorbed in the story to think of a drinking game for sleeves story, but i love the idea. (i'll never throw out a random note i find again)
i have to say that the crazed drinking game is better than an esd power hour. i only drank to "ya know?" and i was blind within 20 minutes, but i saw others that also had drinking penalty for "i don't know" too. fantastic for chat room party. as soon as this is in library it goes into favorites for drinking game purposes only.

the crazedcast would have been better with creepy music bedded in the back (like a smodcast).

Sleeves was easily my favorite, but to be fair to the other casts, what Sleeves does is entirely different. Props to all of 'em for putting themselves out there.

While i had had previously heard a few quick comments about it, i caught a bit of"Big kev's geek show"

...i know it wasn't part of round 2, but are they a previously established R+F spinoff?(or O+A?)

Either way, i enjoyed the parts i heard ( even tho i'm not into the rocket "models" they were discussing, and star wars, beyond occasionally using the "you were the chosen one!" cliche)

"Monkey house' aside, i never had any interest in sleeves cuz i didn't like what sounds to me like an olivertwist-y affectation; but based on the preceding comments, i'll be checking that show out next time.

Sleeves is the show that made me want to go to his site and download all his podcasts which I will be doing today. The Germfreak was good, but Newstyle was annoying. He had some lame attempts at jokes, but he comes across as someone who tries to act wittier than he is.

Crazed was, well, interesting. I listened to the whole thing.

I couldn't get through Lenay's podcast. Her voice just started to grate on my nerves.

There were too many people on the Redding show.

The generic show was OK, but a little too many Family Guy and South Park references. Or was that the other show? I don't remember which probably isn't a good thing.

I didn't listen to all of Boes and Jos yet, but I thought they had good chemistry.

Sleeves is obviously the stand out. What a great story, great music choices, great beds. A+

The DJ Newstyle show ROCKED!!! Numero Uno in my book...

I’m not into Dungeons and dragons / fantasy fan nor do I smoke pot, So Sleeves show was .... Interesting... different ... as a nitch product

I also loved Crazed show for the fact that he pissed off allot of people and spoke the truth how people are quick to judge a person and hop on band wagons when they don’t have a mind of their own... Good job getting your message across.

i been listening to this night (i recorded it on my inno) at my office and i finally finished listening to them all. I posted my review of the night on fba, but I'll post it here too cuz i think i did a comprehensive review:

ok i listened to all the shows. Here are the rankings:

1. Dj Newstyle - By far the best. I actually never listened to his podcast before (i know im awful) but i will again. Made me laugh consistently at my office and I even brought up some of the discussion points in inter-office chit chat. By far the best, most polished and realized show.

2. Sleeves - I'll be honest, I couldnt quite follow it. But the production was top notch and I'll give the man all the respect in the world for having the balls to try something like that with our audience. I loved that it was different and you can not deny the man is very talented. Also, I laughed the music.

3 - Bros and Jos - The guys did seem energenic and had a natural rapport with eachother. I know one of them was Dean from Brooklyn, and to tell you the truth, I couldnt tell the difference between the other two. I guess I feel ambivalent toward the show..i listened to it all, but didnt feel any spark of specialness. The point-of-view of the show wasnt original, sports talk, talk about paula abdul being crazy, stuff we've all heard before. Its radio mac 'n cheese, but its pleasant enough

4. the Redding show - I like the fact that they stayed on the Death topic, it gave the show a purpose (instead of just bambling). And two of the guys (i think there were three there) had a nice rapport. But that one fucking guy with the Mitch Hedberg delivery that tried to hard to make silly pop culture references was awful. Kick him off the show and maybe the show will be as good as "Bro and Jos"...but that one guy was just so unfunny and reeked of "trying to hard"

5. Crazed - OMG, Crazed isnt last? His show was shit, but at some point i was compelled. Don't know why, don't know how, but I listened

6. Lenay - a completely horrendous and inappropriate show, it really shouldve never been on the air. The only reason its not in last place is because the sheer mess of this show from concept to air on 202 saved it from being in last place. The trainwreck was too bad to be the worst

7. Way too Hip - and now the worst. What happens when you put people with no personality in a room with nothing funny to say and recorded them for an hour. This show was so bad for so many reasons. First off, it wasnt done "in studio" like the others, they edited their show and they had phonecallers..which gave them a huge advantage. Instead they talked about their friends who were as lame as they were (and we as listeners didnt know)..they werent focused on any topic..just a mess. I could go on for hours, but to sum it up, these people didnt seem to have any business whatsoever doing a radio show..I didnt laugh once, I didnt think once, its the only show where I felt that if the radio was off it would accomplish the same exact thing.

And I want to bring up a point about these podcasts that I realized. "Bros and Jos" "redding" and "way too hip" both put together a show where the aim was "we are just regular guys having a regular hang, and people will relate to it because they are regular guys too". Its almost pompous..like "our regular conversation is so fascinating, that people will want to listen to it!". I don't think any member of those shows are particularly funnier people than regular people..and I'm sure the show members will admit that themselves.

I'm not convinced this works for a radio show. Why would u want to listen to regular people talk? DJNewstyle was successful because he put on a show, he had on a crazy neurotic guy and grilled him about his issues in life..thats funny. Regular guys talking about American Idol the way every office place in America does? Not funny. And i know o&a try to say they are "regular guys having a hang", but none of my regular friends are professional HBO Comedians/sex addicts and brilliant impressionists...O&A arent regular guys talking, they are talented professionals.

So all in all, it was an interesting experience. I think DJNewstyle is the only show I would listen to again, and I think Sleeves is a talented motherfuckers, but I think the other shows ranged from either "pleasant" to "shit" and I don't see anything coming from those other shows

and thats the end of my review *doink*!

I would love to post my thoughts on the podcasts, but I only heard Lenay, Sleeves, and Redding on Sunday and my shitbox computer crashes every 10 minutes, so I really can't listen to them all until it DIES and is replaced. It wouldn't be fair of me to review before then. Sorry for posting this nothing-ness. I'll have a new computer soon. Someday. Then I'll listen to the rest and give my biased review.

So far Sleeves is my favorite.

i thought I'd be able to listen to more of the shows...but so far I've heard DJN Crazed and Lenay...

DJn's rapport with Germ is really terrific. I enjoyed all the dumb talk about diners and waitstaff. For me just a really solid and entertaining show that didn't try too hard to be anything that it wasn't. Really really good.

Crazed - again what I like about Crazed is he's just himself. He's not trying to be cool or hide anything. He just brings himself to the table. His dreams of becoming a postman, his loneliness, etc. Authenticity itself is a powerful listening experience for me and that's what I got from his show.

I've listened to Lenay's show when I can. It's obviously not an adult show - but as a kid show I think it's pretty great and would really work well on the Disney channel or the Kids channel or whatever it's called. Instead of having those "wacky" adults it'd be cool to have kid dj's and she's a natural.

My show doesn't really belong on 202 either. if anywhere, maybe sonic theater if it still exists...it is a bit of a book on tape thing...not for everyone.

Hoping to listen to the others still...

I only heard three. Crazed, Generic show, and Bos and Jos.
The last two did nothing for me they were vanilla retreads of standard stuff thats been said and done many times over.

At least Crazed was unique. It's obviously not something that could be a sustainable thing but for a one night affair it was gold baby.

Who else talks about the merits of christian rock, or simultaneously talks about forgiveness and retribution. Crazed a maniac for all seasons.

The only show that I have caught all of so far was Crazed's Miss Understood

I was actually pretty entertained by it for the most part. There was something there.

I heard parts of another show, but I can't remember who it was. Not impressed. Pretty much what Smiler said about being a carbon copy, paint-by-numbers, etc. I'll give the rest of them a listen soon. Based on reputation and the voting, I know Sleeves will come with something original.

If this were a movie, Crazed's podcast would have been broadcast live. and his talk of being nice to people would have struck a chord with his audience. All of the listeners, including the ones who were previously mean to him would be standing silently waiting for him as he exited the studio. Crazed wouldn't know what to make of it at first, but then the person who had been meanest to him would start a slow clap. The rest of the crowd would join the clap little by little until everyone was doing it and cheering. Then they would carry off Crazed on their shoulders.

I don't think any of that happened though.

Aside from inexcusable creepiness with women that we are hearing about (tho i'm not sure if some of that may just be that he's "unpopular" (ie-like the old story about your black supreme court guy; if it was Denzel making those comments, the story does a 180).

Crazed didn't get the slow clap 8-), but I KNOW his current heat makes him suddenly alot less creepy and shunned....

It was up there a few days ago, but apparently Crazed has gotten an agent and a injunction has gone down on the whole shebang. Rumor has it he's cut a 52-podcast deal with Sirius, so I don't think we'll be getting a resolution anytime soon.

I thought Sleeve's podcast was incredible. I will confess though I have loved his songs, I have never checked out the podcasts on his site, so I didn't know what to expect. I found it to be refreshingly unique and wonderfully poetic. I wanted to listen for the simple fact that his voice is mesmerizing, but what a great storyteller. The interwoven music added wonderful texture.

A few comments on Crazed's podcast. I met him at F.H. Riley's last Saturday, and I found him to be a kind and very genuine person. I promised to listen to his podcast and I was pleasantly surprised. I really liked the way he tried to present himself in and honest, think what you may, kind of way. Someone mentioned earlier that he could have used a partner in there, and I know I kept thinking the same thing as I listened.

Congrats CrazeD for winning the night of 1000 podcasts. As Ron noted it wasn't fair to include Sleeves in this cause he's major league. That makes Crazed the defacto winner.

His flow and cadence were soothing and his topics well researched. I love his philosophy that there's a time for jokes and time for being serious. Overall he did a great job of balancing the two. I'm just not sure whether he would be better in a 3hour daily or just once a week.

But Redding had potential, they just had this "weird silly pop culture guy with a mitch hedbergian delivery" that was radio cancer..the other two guys were ok though
