Fez said the unmasked people weren't really feeling it. I guess all the comics they've been unmasking are part of the same agency or something.

Loved " Action" . It really should have been on HBO, though. Fox has this unfortunate tendency to kill good shows.
I mean, if nothing else, I'm probably going to like any show that uses a Zevon song for its theme.

Hi Jaymohr, I wish I could attend. It's not fair I was born Canadian and so far away.

speaking of jacking off, no wait, i mean speaking of christopher walken...
anyone see his recent appearance on SNL? every minute of every sketch he was in he just stared at the cue cards, it looked ridiculous. i wonder if he couldnt make it to rehearsal or something, he barely looked at the other people in the sketch.

I caught my first Unmasked taping today. Very interesting and very funny.
Damn! I asked Pitzy if you were there and he said you weren't. I really wanted to meet you. He sat me in the front row all the way on the left side of the stage so I was unable to get to the mic and ask Jay the question I wanted to. I was five feet from Jay, and Fez sat right behind me, so I guess I can't complain. It was an excellent time. I will definitely go to more tapings if they're at that time of day.
It was also the first R&F event where I got to see principle players up close. It was easy to pick people out by their voices. Sheepy looks nothing like he sounds on the air. With that voice I pictured a much smaller and frail looking guy. He's far from that. They had to raise the mic for him! Lilly is strikingly beautiful. Earl's picture was even more of a travesty than I thought. It was very cool to see all the regulars there. I really wish I had the time to meet some of you. Hopefully at the next taping...

This was my 3rd unmasked and my favorite. I love hearing about process and inspiration by the comics and Jay did that plus talking about his panic attacks made for a very interesting unmasked.

what a great Unmasked.
it was nice to see the rapport between Jay and Ronnie... they are already on the level so I think it was a bit easier for Jay to open up and get 'existential' with us just a bit.... :)
Jay spoke about so much that pertained not only to comics but to all performers. I actually wanted to ask a question but opted not to because I felt like i just wanted to have a full blown conversation with the guy.
Aside from the Kids Unmasked... which was NOT really an 'unmasking'... this was definitely my favorite. Nicely done!

This weekend, I was listening to a WJFK show from May of 2004, when Jay's book first came out. It was funny to hear Ron & Fez sort of make fun of him, now that he's such a good friend of the show. I don't think they really got the concept of his book at the time, though.

I too was way more interested in reading it after this unmasked.
It was very different than the Lewis black one; less unbridled laughter, more interesting insight; and for those that weren't there- it went pretty long- close to 2 hours. I wonder what will make the final cut. ( I hope my question doesn't get cut out- I need more air time).
oh, and for those that weren't there, Pitzy & Lilly were very much trying to make everyone at home- introducing themselves before hand, making sure everyone was comfortable, etc.

NOT TRUE! I did little scribbles in the margins like they do in Mad magazine.
JayJay, Jay Mohr is a terrific comedian, a phenomenal impressionist, a talented actor and a legend in North Jersey High School athletics. I enjoy his guest spots on both O&A and R&F immensely. I would have loved to be at his Unmasked but had a family commitment. I look forward to hearing it when it's broadcast (Unmasked, random Saturdays 8 - 9, XM150).
BUT...
...the book left me flat and disappointed. The panic attack situation just seemed to be repeated several times to fill up pages. I expected more behind the scenes material. More of Jay's personal experiences as a performer both before and after SNL. More about life growing up, life as a comedian, his TV and movie experiences, political opinions, and stuff like dat. I really don't feel like I know him any better after reading the book than I did before. And I really wanted to know more about Jay otherwise I wouldn't have picked it up (at full price, BTW, no 15% off stickers).
Jay can be proud of it. Getting a book published is an incredible accomplishment. This one just didn't make it for me. I'd still buy Mr. Mohr a beer if we ever met (and give a second book by him a shot -- I'd just read a chapter or two in the book store before I decided to buy it).

Go Wayne Valley!
I've been to about 5 Unmasked and this one was one of the best combinations of being hysterical and incredibly insightful. I'm off to buy the book this weekend. I love Action and can not watch Entourage without getting enraged that this shitty show gets airtime when Action got one fucking season. Irrelavant trivia from Action, but Peter Dragon is from Kalamazoo which is where I am originally from so I felt special.
As much as I love Jay though, I have some unadulterated rage towards the man for one line
"It's not showfriends, it's showbusiness".
I used to work in the sports world, and there are entirely too many jagoffs that use that goddamn line expecting big belly laughs everytime.
Love me some Jay Mohr though. Miss Mohr Sports.
EDIT: And for the record, obviously I know it's not Mr. Mohr's fault, just thought I'd let him know that in the Detroit sports market everyone thinks they're Bob Sugar

after seeing Jay last Wed., I picked up his book this weekend, was a great read, and ended up allowing my kids watch sponge bob to finish it this afternoon. loved his vulnerability, great memoir, just can't help imagine what would have happened if he stuck around snl.. my 65 yr Bolivian mom was impressed that I was going to see Jay last WEd. (she watched the kids) i didn't even have to explain who he was (no offense, Jay, my mom's not good with the names).. Chay Morrrrrr???? Ayyyyy si, lo conoce!!! el actor... can i get this book in spanish?
wish I had read it before seeing unmasked, anyway, back to some parenting...

Is this the Ask Jay Mohr thread?
Jay, I noticed you were a "consultant" on the new seasons of Last "Comic" Standing. Is that so they can just take your idea and, instead of it being as great as seasons 1 and 2, turn it into the abortion of a television show it has become? It makes me sad that you're no longer the host, or seem to have nothing to do with it anymore.

I removed my self from it two years back. I wanted to make movies and did not think that being a reality tv host was the best way to go about it. I stepped down as host but as a co-creater i still get a weekly fee. In the two years I was off the show I did the movies THE GROOMSMEN and STREET KINGS. I think those two lines on the resume were worth it.

comedy is WAY easier than drama. there is only ONE way to perform comedy...right or wrong. There is very little grey area...it is either funny or not..it is a lot like math. Conversely, there are SOOOO MANY different ways to play drama. You can do different versions of the same scene between takes...one take you can yell and be irate, the next take you can be very quiet and simmer...both are right. it is up to the editor to decide what goes in and what gets left out.
to answer your question...no, i dont really do anything to "draw" a character...I just think in my mind how I think the person would act in real life and then memorize the lines. jj

just a commitment will suffice. not all comedy is absurd. is a good impression absurd? me doing pacino lines from dog day afternoon...absurd? not really, just funny for some reason. Vince Vaughn is one of my all time favorites. I think maybe his quote is better used as a pie wedge in the bigger chart of funny...i have always liked "Comedy is the truth a moment before anticipated" i think it was Gilda Radner...but these two are not stand up comics. So, I am not sure how to interpret their views. Comics are more like canons. Point at the target and shoot. Don't complicate winning. Just be funny

I could have saved you the $10. It blows. It was the only time I was ever tempted to return a book. I like Jay but was very disappointed.
100+ pages and all you learn is that he has panic attacks and only got to be in 2 sketches on SNL.
(I hope I didn't reen it for ya.)
This will probably get me labeled a kiss up, but I disagree with this assessment. As I stated previously, the Unmasked taping got me interested in reading Jay's book, so I ordered it after the taping. The things that Gritty was looking for really didn't have a place in the book, because the book was focused very specifically on the two years Jay spent on SNL, with only passing references to his life apart from the show. With that in mind, it's a very interesting dissection of the SNL process as well a recollection of memories from that time. I'll admit that I do have some fascination with SNL, and I've also read Tom Shales' book on the show (which Jay stated that he isn't a fan of during the taping), so that probably helped, but I would recommend the book.
My favorite nugget of information pulled from the book is that this is a toupee:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/archive/c/ca/20070430095738!Chris_Elliott_at_the_39th_Emmy_Awar ds.jpg
Chris Elliot actually has a toupee that makes it look like he's barely holding onto his hair!
Hey, Jay. The other guy from SNL that wears a toupee (but it's a secret) is Kevin Nealon, right? It has to be. Just like Jeremy Piven, that guy seems to suspiciously get more hair the older he gets.
The title of this thread should be changed.

FANDICK doesn't have his own forum.
only if you're dressed in plastic bags and directing traffic
That sounds like some kind of fashion.
And as far as getting your own forum - forget it.
We already have too many forums here.

The word "pwn" may have arisen and spread as a common typo of the word "own," since the 'p' and 'o' keys are adjacent on a standard English keyboard.
Hey Jay -

Here you go, jayjay dear.
Since noone else here seems to care about your needs... here is what the all-knowing Wikipedia has to say about it:
Pwned (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pwn)
Pwn is a leetspeak slang term, derived from the word "own",that implies domination or humiliation of a rival, used primarily in the Internet gaming culture to taunt an opponent who has just been soundly defeated.
In Internet security jargon, to "pwn" means "to compromise" or "to control", specifically another computer (server or PC), web site, gateway device, or application; it is synonymous with one of the definitions of hacking or cracking. An outside party who has "owned" or "pwned" a system has obtained unauthorized administrative control of the system.

i am watching him in 'Picture Perfect' with Jen Aniston right now.
it's a cute, girly movie... and jay is adoobly and the portrait of what a girl would want.
so he did his job well.
he is also in "Go" with katie holmes, "Pay it Forward", and "Jerry McGuire"... I think those are his most notable appearances though he has been in many more (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001542/)..... :)

Nice. It was Kevin Elster. He was batting as a rookie against Nolan Ryan. Elster was and has always been a cocky red ass. When he batted for the second time, after walking his first and WALKING to first, the ump called the first, head high pitch STRIIIIKKE! Elster looks back at the ump but doesn't say anything. next pitch travels about 60 feet. STRIIIIIKE! ELster looks back and says, "You're kidding me right? I mean that ball BOUNCED". The ump just shrugged and said, "That's a hall of famer out there son!"
A classic.
