Great episode, loved the 80's version of the title sequence:

My favorite moment from the episode was the really geeky Back to the Future reference (which is paired with the fact that the observers take the time to watch movies, with sodas. Well I guess taking time doesn't really mean the same thing to them.):

Oh word.....was cool to see him in a part on the show....his work on the wire was incredible. looks like he'll be a part of the show at least until Olivia gets her mind back completely and gets back to her dimension. I thought the one line he had eluded to his role on the wire actually.....when he was talking about, "yea i was in a bad way a while back".....i think they did that on purpose.
But yea, the conversation he has with Liv before she gets out of the cab....the part about his wife being the only one that believed him....and the fact that he waited for her to leave says to me that he'll play a big role in helping her get back to where she should be.

I agree, and I hope so. There are very few actors that were on the wire that I wouldn't want to see in other shows and I hope Bubs has a big role in this season. He was great on the Wire, and so far he's been good on Fringe.

why would you move a show that you want to see better ratings from to a night when 50% of your audience is out of the house enjoying a friday night?

I guess it is because they know they can get several times more people with American Idol on Thursday night, and they'll probably get as much or more ratings on Friday night with Fringe than whatever they had before. Net gain on their part. sucks, but I understand why they do it. Unfortunately Americans have a taste for crap television

she can't remember because of the cortexaphan treatments. Peter was never given those treatments so, i don't think it has anything to do with missing brains. i hope they investigate that this season. oh and hows this for a hype video?

I, too, thought it was a great episode. I could sum up that childhood trauma for the lack of memory (but that seems like a cop out, and I don't think the writers would do that).

oh yea....definitely....caught a bad hand there.
I hope the Peter thing is something they will re-visit as we get closer to finding out exactly what his relationship is to the device.
also, slightly off topic, but one of my favorite things about this show is how they custom tailor the opening credits to the timeline of the subsequent episode. the 1985 episode intro was awesome......note the "hot topic" items that flash the screen....pretty funny. I hope that there are more than 2 universes, but hope the writers don't dwell into others, unless they are able to make just as awesome as when they revealed there was another universe.
maybe the other universes are unable to cross over right now b/c the one with walternate is closer somehow but when that world ceases to be it moves up the next universe

Fringe fans, rejoice: Fox has renewed J.J. Abrams' cult drama for a fourth season.
Since moving to Fridays in January, Fringe, which stars Anna Torv and Joshua Jackson, the show has done well among young adult viewers. Another episode airs tonight at 9 p.m. on Fox.
"We could not be happier that the fans of Fringe (and our most excellent partners at Fox) have allowed us to continue telling stories from the Fringe for another season!" Abrams crowed in a statement, adding that production is just beginning on the Season 3 finale.

Great news about the show being picked up, I was really worried with it being moved to Fridays, but honestly with DVR's does it really matter what day shows are on? Tonight I watched Fringe, Community and episode of Jimmy Fallon from two days ago. It's just there when I watch TV, the only live shit I watch is sports and I might be 30mins behind on that to beat commercial breaks.

was thinking exactly the same thing .... all the others i felt it was just our people acting as another version of themselves
i mean its sad b/c you know how its gonna end ... our universe will prevail ...its just a matter of how they get there ...
i mean it would be unprecedented if they had ours lose and the alternate universe wins ... but theyd never do that
thats what i hate about scripted tv shows that put main characters in danger ... you know in the end that theyre not gonna die bc theyre so intregral to the show and the show wuld end or not last much longer if theyre gone

its not that he never existed it that to the walters and olivias after he brings them together dont realize that he ever existed so it basically wipes out all the events leading up to it
but heres the problem ... if he never exists, he never dies, then walter never creates the machine to go to the other side to take the other peter creating the rift in the 2 universes
i hope they explain that ... or theyll prob say some shit like it was gonna happen no matter what ... the two universes rift and this was one way it was gonna happen

The first thing that popped into my mind was if Peter never existed, then the rift between the worlds never existed, but I think they're trying to explain it with the Observer guy building a time deleter, they just need to reveal who needs to be removed from time.

only prob is they are alluding to it being peter, and the observer was in front of the lab where they work out of so if not peter who else would it be that would still be in the lab area ? lincoln ?

For those who have been watching the series since it's inception...
I started watching the show in '08 when it first came on and it lost me halfway through the series because of the freak of the week aspect of it. I'm more of a fan of a continuous storyline rather than a CSI type investigation where most of it is wrapped up in an episode. A friend of mine has told me they have been taking a different storytelling approach that shies away from the episodic television. Is this true? I've started watching it again (watching first episode today), so if I'm wasting my time hoping for something that's not coming, PLEASE let me know!

theres still weekly freaky things but it was all interwoven into the main storyline which was there were 2 universes and the fact that walter went to the other side to get that peter cause his died had causes fractures on both sides
last season mainly dealt with the other side trying to infiltrate this one to kill it thinking it would end their problems

I see what you're saying and I know about the dual storyline thing but I know that most episodic television have some sort of faint continuing storyline that try to tie the season together. Just finished watching the first season. The overall mythology of the show is AWESOME, but unfortunately there are several episodes I could live without (Ghost Network being one of them). The Arrival is the best episode of the season followed by the last 2 eps of the first season as well as any episode with David Robert Jones. I'm excited for the rest of this series. Any time the Observer talks or is involved in the episode somehow is really great.

Unfortunately in the last season not so much with observers
Not many episodes with them in it
I seem to remember the first season being riddle with more one-off episodes with maybe hints at the overall storyline but not much... as the show went on they definitely get away from the X-files formula of barely touching the main story and always leaving the fans ravenous for more info about it. So, continue on and you will definitely be rewarded with more of the main story arc and less one-offs.

Yeh the first season had more freaky things to investigate and set up the whole fringe universe with occasional
glimpses into a overall story
tbh I don't recall any recent episodes of fringe events that weren't tied into overall story at least not in this last season

I'm seven episodes into season 2, there have been 4 one-off episodes so far. "Dream Logic", "Night of Desirable Objects" and "Earthling" and "Of Human Action" with very little glimpses into the overall story arch. "Fracture", "New Day in Old Town" , and "Momentum Deferred" have been directly tied into the mythology and were great episodes. I'm not sure how I feel about the amount of one-offs so far.

"August" (Season2, episode 8) was an awesome, myth-heavy episode. "Snakehead" (Season 2, episode 9) was an awesome, one off episode involving creepy eel-snakes being pulled out of people's mouths. Can't wait for Season 3.

I like Fringe now, and I started out loving Fringe but once they started concentrating more on this whole 2 worlds storyline, I have lost a little interest each episode.
I still watch it, and enjoy it but if it is canceled, I can understand why.
I prefer the stand alone episodes mostly - kinda like when XFiles would do this sometimes.
Maybe if Anna Torv hits rock bottom, we might get full frontal nudity finally...

So any thoughts on the past few weeks ?
I think they're gonna do something cheesy where Olivia dies ..... Briefly and is then resuscitated back. To life so she technically dies but not completely and watcher is still correct
At first I thought he just meant this Olivia but he said he looked at all possible outcomes
My other thought is somehow her dying is what sends Peter back to his timeline
Chimee
01-28-2012, 02:53 PM
I think Peter will intervene in the timeline and save her because he is not supposed to exist.
Kinda like when Olivia went to the other side and caught the guy who used probabilities to kill people.

I'm guessing Olivia dies, but it's not Peters true time line, so it won't matter when he goes back.
