There is no correlation between immunizations and vaccines. In fact people who aren't getting their kids their immunizations are endangering the public safety.

Thhaaaaaaank you exactly. These are all nutty accusations based on crap someone read on the internet not based on fact or credible scientific study.

# Because signs of autism may appear at around the same time children receive the MMR vaccine, some parents may worry that the vaccine causes autism.
# Carefully performed scientific studies have found no relationship between MMR vaccine and autism.

What always sets off my bullshit meter on this is when these "alternative" medical sites spend more time bashing "mainstream" medicine than giving actual fact. It sets up false "doubt" that allows them to make absurd claims.

They are. I should have said immunizations and autism. Take this quote from Web MD (http://www.webmd.com/brain/autism/latest-on-autism?page=2):
Because the exact cause of autism is not known, parents may continue to have concerns despite the evidence. In these cases, parents should be aware of the risks of serious disease in children who are not vaccinated. In some areas, outbreaks of these dangerous diseases have occurred in people who have not been immunized.
Get the kid the shots.

It's impossible to prove a negative but the overwhelming scientific evidence does not indicate a correlation between the mercury preservative (Thimerosal) and autism. Europe still uses it and there is no "autism epidemic" in the kids over there.

That's not the only reason. One problem I read about a while back is that the vaccinations aren't 100%. So if a few kids in your child's school aren't immunized they could be infected with a disease your child is immunized against. But because it may only be 95% effective, your child and the others immunized will have a 5% chance of getting the disease. The more kids who aren't immunized, the more chances of the immunized kids getting the disease.

And I think that caller raised another good point about the definition of autism now, leading to a greater number of diagnoses anyway.

It's one thing to have a fear, it's another to let a fear rule youre life and make bad decisions.
I'm a dad, and there is a fear, but I know there is no proof of a link between the two, whereas failure to vaccinate my girls leading to illness, etc. is proven.
So our girls got immunizations.

As someone else mentioned, you can't prove a negative. It's up to the ones making the claim to provide proof, and they haven't. There is no proven link between thimerosal and autism.
And for the record, I have a 9 month-old daughter and there was never any doubt she was getting vaccinated.

Certainly the vaccines aren't 100%, but parents are so freaked out about this autism thing that they are avoiding immunizations for their kids. This is one of the major reasons for the measles/rubella outbreaks that have been occuring over the past year.

Same goes with women.
It's the ugly people that are happy.
Monogamy is NOT a natural human trait.
Not just men, Ronnie. http://www.wackbag.com/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif
You know, there are good evolutionary biology studies that suggest that monogamy is indeed evolutionarily advantageous. Human babies take so long to mature that the father would have much more of a reason to stick around.
well its usually biological for females (investment) as opposed to Males, who's biological tendency is spread that sperm around.
that's not a right / wrong thing of course.
I wouldn't have minded my Mother's maiden name. It's cool too.

Oh, I disagree with that. I think that your affectational orientation is mor eof an idication of being gay or straight. I'll have sex with men or women, no big deal, but I couldn't imagine being in love with or settling down with a man. Being willing to have sex with the same er, sex as you is a far, far cry than being gay or lesbian.
In my humblest opnion, of course.
