This story is full of fail and win at the same time. I can't believe how idiotic some kids can be. Guess Church doesn't give you the street smarts that "off limits" means "off limits" and on top of that, it's not a smart idea to do what he did.

When you have children Matty, you'll come to realize that no matter how stupid and how preventable a child's death may be, it will always be sad.
And this isn't a "holier than thou" thing where I think I'm on a higher moral ground than you just because I procreated, it changes the way you see things.

Again, "church group" in Atlanta. Have you ever seen some of these church groups in Six Flags? Animals. I'd like to think I'd be a better parent than that.

They are dropping the church group angle. They are saying the "kid" was 17 and trying to get something he dropped on the ride. Still, stupid. Stupid. Stupid.

I am in between both of these thoughts. It is always sad when a child dies because I can't imagine loosing my daughter for any reason, but this kid is also a complete douchebag. It sucks that he was decapitated, but it serves him right for being a little monster.
This kid was trying to grab the feet of a person that was riding on the Batman ride. Do you have any idea how fast that damn ride goes? This could easily have been "person killed while riding Batman ride." The person on the ride would have been severely injured, if not killed, all because some damn kid doesn't know how to behave like a human being.
I guess I am just glad that more people weren't hurt.

Wait, what? Where did that info come from? It isn't in the article you linked.
I feel LESS sorry now. If the kid was 17, he should freakin' know better. Even if it was to get something he dropped rather than grab somebody's legs, he still shouldn't have been there.
The first article made it sound like a child was involved, not a 17 year old kid.

OK you win. All the white church-goers from Atlanta that I've ever met weigh at least 300 lbs and could never scale a fence.

Kid was from South Carolina. Was there with his family. 17 years old, went into the ride to get his hat, and whammo.

You may be surprised to find out that no matter how much great parenting you do... kids will ALWAYS do stupid things. Especially teenagers. No matter what their ethnicity, location, or family social status.
It's honestly the luck of the draw.
Hopefully yours will just drink and drive like a normal teen, instead of try to play an idiotic prank on a friend and end up dead. http://www.wackbag.com/images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif

How did his head get knocked off? Isn't the Batman ride the one where the cars are below the track? I can see him getting kicked real hard by a rider, but decapitated? Something's fishy. Is the ride attendant a secret Al-Queada member?

I haven't seen this in any of the articles but a lot of money and jewelry fall off of people on these rides. I wonder if that's why they were where they were. If his hat was really that special, he could have told a park employee and they would have retrieved it for him at the end of the day.
