Anyway that aside, it's summer, and from noon-3 I will be outside participating in the Universe. If that means I dont listen to R+F for a month or two, well thats exactly what happened last summer.

Would I like to stay in my house in the middle of the summer and listen to a radio? Yes, which is exactly why I get out of the house.

Plus, while everyone searches high and low to try and figure out why Fez is such a fucking dud on the radio anymore, they tend to forget when they were on FreeFM, Fez was on fire. It should be painfully obvious that these 2 guys are part of the Vampire set but having to work in the middle of the day has basically ruined Fez.

Really bad science reporting has people thinking the Earth screams, coz headlines like

Earth emits an ear-piercing series of chirps and whistles that could be heard by any aliens who might be listening, if they're out there.

The above is dead wrong, and the subheadline of the article Bazile linked above.

Ear-piercing implies within audible range, this is radio. All the article is saying is that the earth, like other planets, generated its own radio, essentially noise. The 'screams, chirps, and whistles, are human interpretations of said noise. So, in the audible, no.

The aliens would have to be 'listening' with radio gear. Without a radio, we cant really hear radio waves with our naked ears.

Remembering that in the near vacuum of space sound doesnt travel at all, it has no medium to exist in.

None of this stops reporters from reporting science in such a horrific manner as to do harm, to confuse the reader.

The earth of course, makes noises; its all motion under our feet and stick a microphone down there and youll hear it. That of course, isnt what they were talking about at all. But the way the story about 'Earth Screams' is being reported, ugh, just pisses me off. Science reporting is bad at best for the vast majority of outlets.
