How many albums must one have before the release of a best of? Cee-Lo has 2 albums if I recall, does this mean that it's a 50-50 combo of the best of both albums.

Satrad Merger Approval Imminent - 7/10 - Lotsa rumblings that the Federal Communications Commission's long-awaited approval of the satellite radio merger between DC's XM and NYC's Sirius could come at any moment. Later this week or next. The Department Of Justice gave its OK back in March. But the FCC has been working out a batch of possible conditions on the deal. When it happens, look for a big batch of pink slips on New York Avenue as alpha male Mel Karmazin's Sirius will likely come out "on top".....

No idea. Their first show on XM was 9/12/05, so if it's some kind of yearly deal, that should provide some insight.

Their last show on CBS was in Late July. So one would assume they had a written contract in that window. Deal signed, and then had to do a non-compete or something.

And guys... not to freak anyone out (although I will), just because R&F has a contract doesn't mean we'll hear them. CBS paid the buddies for their time on Free-FM and let's not fortget the 2-year time out O&A had back in the Dark Days.

Again, I think a lot of the pink slips that are going to be handed out are going to be the redundant talent. The DJs on the music stations, etc.

I think if there's anyone who is sweating their job right now for 202, it's Wickland.

Jesus fucking Christ, stop with the doom and gloom that O&A and R&F are done.

Even if O&A are done - and that's a mighty big if - what in the WORLD makes all of you think that Ron and Fez are done?

FACT: Ron and Fez still had jobs after O&A got fired last time.

FACT: CBS gave Ron and Fez accomodation (even though it meant moving the show to DC)

FACT: Mel Karmazin was running CBS when this was happening.

O&A and R&F *compliment* each other, but they are not TIED to each other. It's not like it's one or the other. Both shows survived without each other.

Seriously. All I hear is doom and gloom. There's no sense in flipping out before whatever happens, happens.

Who's to say that if XM dumps both O&A and R&F, that R&F won't eventually end up on K-Rock?

There's always possibilities.

I have been listening to AFRO since I was 15 and they were running WNEW after sex for sam I went through such an entertainment withdrawal that I could have just as well thrown out my radio. so yes this is a panic or call to arms call it what you will but we need to be ready for the worst. do I hope mel keeps all our boys of course and most likely he will as long as the money keeps rolling in so spread the pay for radio word so all of our days can be AFROcentric

Oh, you pay for XM, so that makes you a special snowflake? Go screw. 99% of us on this site pay for XM.

We tried this last time. It didn't work, unfortunately. And that situation was a LOT more dire than it is now.

There is no reason to panic and act like it's a done deal that R&F and/or O&A are done. We don't know that and we won't know that. There's been no indication in any industry magazines that O&A or R&F's jobs are in dangers.

It's always been that the people who are in trouble are the ones who have "redundancy" with Sirius. DJs on the classic rock channels, that sort of thing.

I'm sure Mel is familiar that O&A and R&F have a hardcore fanbase. If Mel truly has a vendetta against one or both shows, there would be nothing we could do to convince him otherwise.

That's how vendettas work. They aren't rational. And a vendetta is the only reason why Mel would get rid of one or both shows.

Have they ever revealed how many subscribers listen to O&A and R&F? I thought it was hinted at once before, at least in terms of O&A, and that it wasn't a huge number.

Then it comes down to the cost of what you pay for each show (talent, production, staff, studio) versus what you're going to replace it with, and whether or not the potential subscriber drop-offs would offset the money saved.

It's almost impossible to tell, because there's no real public numbers on who listen, and whether or not O&A and R&F are the primary reasons they listen.

I will say this though...it's completely crazy to think that they'll dump 202 because of some age old Stern/Karmazin vendetta. Those guys like money. If they can turn an extra three cents profit a month off O&A and R&F being on the platform, they will.

If they do get dumped, it would be a total cost-saving move. I think Bubba the Love Sponge and Farrell probably shouldn't be too comfortable either. My guess is that since they can't do anything about the Stern contract, they'll just hope that he's enough and dump everyone else.

I just hope that the buddays end up in a place that seems to appreciate them and might do something to promote them. If they go, I'm gone too. I'll smash my radio. I won't fuck my mother, because she's dead, and that's just wrong.
