View Full Version : I don't have photo albums

Or the digital equivalent and whatnot.
I just don't feel the need or desire to take a bunch of pictures of friends and family all the time. What photos I do have from over the years tend to make me sad so I realy don't any kind of enjoyment out of that sort of thing. I guess it's because I've always moved every 2-3 years over the course of my life, so photos of friends would mostly be of people I don't see or will never see again. I know photos mostly exist to preserve memories, but seeing photos just gets me bummed out over times past.
Anyone else sans photo collections?

obviously im very much for photos,
but i can see your point of view...
my grandmother never had any pics of herself or others for that matter...it was a strange thing, cant ask her now......but with ur explanation maybe she felt the same way about it

If and when you have kids of your own, you'll be taking pictures like you're at an Annie Liebowitz sleepover party.
I really don't either. I have a couple of scrapbooks with some awards I won and a few pictures but I wouldn't consider them "photo albums" per se.

I just never have that urge of, "oh my God, I need to take a picture of this!"
I don't own a camera outside of the one on my phone, which I never use, and an old Pentax I use from time to time for B&W artsy-fartsy crap.
I simply have no drive to take or keep photos.

I pretty much go no where without my digital camera, and I take lots of pics for work mostly, but I have no ablums. Except for some pictures from business trips, when I find time to site see, I have really no personal photos.
Now I'm depressed; thanks for bring up the subjuect.

I submit that chronic photo takers are far creepier.

I only have a digital camera that i barely use unless i we go on "day trips" or there's some important event. It bothers me a little just because there are very few physical photos to hang around or preserve memories with.
So i've made it a point for us to stop and use those photo booths (usually in malls or at boardwalks) so we get a few pictures at once to have around.

I usually only take pics of ambient shit like rusted hulks or gnarled wood.

Yeah, not taking pictures is creepy. That's like saying someone who never leers at people is a peeping tom.
It's not that I don't want to remember people...I just find photos of friends generally sad because I've left most of them behind due to all of my moving.

I don't take photos I leave that to my wife. I really don't see the need for cameras on phones anymore. If your not taking pictures of random whores why have a camera on a phone. It seems like something that only is needed for the young or single.

I've got your picture, I've got your picture
I'd like a million of you all round my cell
I want a doctor to take your picture
So I can look at you from inside as well

kinda sad, i can't imagine having lived as long as you have and not having moments of your life you don't want to have some help remembering.
there are points in my life that seem to have remained more memorable, or possibly i remember more details because of pictures from those days.
the fact that i haven't felt the need to take any pictures of people since moving to n.c. is very telling, this place is a hole.

It's not that I don't want help remembering...I remember everyone just fine. Photos make me focus on those specific moments, and since those moments are happy ones, looking at pictures of them just makes me sad since those moments (and a lot of those people) are gone forever. In my head, it seems more like a part of me forever, but a photo seperates it and makes it seem more like something I've lost or left behind as opposed to being a part of me.

I am the same way Mojo. I have a shoebox full of photos, but not in any order and I have a lot I have taken with the digital camera that I keep on the computer in a single file called My Pictures, but I cant be bothered trying to order them. When I go to a wedding or family functions, I might bring a camera with me, but I worry about the camera getting broken or lost and I end up stashing it in my trunk and not using it. I always have my camera phone though.

TheMojoPin: I just don't feel the need or desire to take a bunch of pictures of friends and family all the time.
I have a really nice camera and took a photo class, but when anything interesting is actually happening I hate stepping back from the experience to fret over taking pictures and documentation. I'd rather live it and remember it than try to capture it, or worse, stop it for a pose. I don't need proof.
When (god forbid) it's time to make a funerary photo collage to represent my life it's certainly not going to look like it was any fun or I like I even existed between ages 16 thru 24.
I grab photos I like from my friends' online albums when I want one. Unhealthy?

I don't think so. I do the same thing. If a friend has a photo I like, I'll ask for a copy, otherwise the thought for me to take a photo never pops into my head.

When I was single - I tried to start an album. I filled a few pages and then forgot about it.
Now that I'm married - especially with the boy... many pics. Scrapbooks, albums, pics on the wall, power point presentations, scrolling digital frame ...
I like pics of the kid though... they're good to look at esp. at work.

i've always loved taking photos ... about 8 years ago, i got my first SLR and filled a dozen photo albums of family and friends ... about 5 years ago, i got my first digital camera and there's thousands of pictures on my (external) hard drive
an now with digital frames (and screen savers), i love putting tons of pics on random and just stare away
i've have a six month old son, and i've taken more pics of him than any other person ... there's a great feature that takes continuous photos as long as you hold down the shutter -- and i'll take a 100 pics while feeding him breakfast

I know a lot of this stems from my absolute hatred of being photographed.

I'm going to FedEx that squirrel a camera.
Speaking of pictures and cameras, i am maybe going to buy a Holga cam in the near future because i hear the pictures look really vintage and neat.
